1. PURPOSE, SAFETY AND USE
The LunaIPx4, referred to in this user guide as Luna, is also available in different models. If
not otherwise stated in this guide the description is valid for all models.
The Luna ceiling hoist is designed to transfer client between bed and chair/wheelchair or
from chair to toilet etc. in institutions such as nursing homes, hospitals, care centres and in
home care. The Luna ceiling hoist can be used as a ceiling mounted hoist or as a mobile
hoist in fixed or movable track systems.
Before using the Luna please read and follow these instructions:
Personnel will have received qualified instructions in using the Luna ceiling hoist.
Luna is used in suitable track systems that have been approved by Ergolet.
The installation of the track system is carried out by installers authorised by Ergolet.
Luna can only be fitted with spreader bars supplied by Ergolet.
The Luna has been developed for use with Ergolet lifting slings and other sling
products authorised by Ergolet. See Ergolet’s sling leaflet for specific information
about slings.
Luna is intended for use under normal temperatures (+2 to +40˚C) and relative
humidity (40 – 90%).
If Luna is used near shower systems or bath, it should be ensured that the Luna or
hand control is not submerged (see section 3.3).
Luna should never be used in an environment containing chlorine or in other
aggressive environments.
Important – Warning!
This user guide must be read thoroughly before Luna is taken into service.
All parts must be mounted correctly and according to this user guide.
There must be no indication of wear and tear on the Luna ceiling hoist, track
system or lifting sling.
NEVER begin lifting if there is suspicion of any defect (abnormal sound, loose
brackets etc.) In such cases the hoist must be taken out of service immediately and
you must contact your dealer or Ergolet.
The Luna lifting capacity is 200 kg or 275 kg and this must never be exceeded.
When using Luna in connection with other components e.g. slings or transportable
track systems it is always the component with the LOWEST weight capacity that
decides the maximum lifting capacity.
Ensure that the Luna or the spreader bar does not come into contact with the user,
when the sling is hung onto the spreader bar
Ensure that neither carers/helpers nor clients/users can be hurt during the lifting.
Never lift higher than necessary when hoisting.

The carer is responsible for ensuring that a check is carried out BEFORE Luna and
accessories are used, including the following:
The lifting strap on the Luna is checked for wear and tear or damage. If there is
any sign of a defect, the Luna must be taken out of use immediately.
Check the up/down function, if any abnormal sound is heard the Luna must not
be used before it has been checked by a qualified technician.
When the up/down function are checked, ensure at the same time that the strap
not folds or twists. Check also that the strap moves freely into the Luna.
Lifting slings are checked for any damage especially as regards to lifting straps.
The slings must be not used if defects are detected.
If you are in any doubt concerning the use of the Luna please contact the dealer
or Ergolet for advice and guidance.

2.5 Operation of safety functions
Emergency stop:
This function is only to be used in an emergency e.g. if the Luna does not react or does not
stop after releasing the hand control operation. The Emergency stop is placed on the hand
control and on the side foil. If the emergency stop has been activated all functions will stop
immediately and the LED light will show red on the hand control.
The Emergency stop can be deactivated by pressing the “Reset” button on the handset for
5 seconds.
Emergency lowering button:
This is also only to be used in an emergency where it is necessary to safely lower a user.
The emergency lowering button is placed on the hand control, illustrated as a parachute
and also on the side foil with 3 arrows.
To activate the emergency lowering hold the button on the hand control or on the front
panel for 5 seconds and a “beep” from the Luna sounds. This is a hold to run button.
Warning! The emergency lowering does not work if the hand control has a
defect.
Note! If the Luna is in “sleep”-mode press either the up or down button for
the emergency lowering to work.
When using emergency lowering, the normally stop will not be active!
Release the emergency lowering button, when the strap is in its full length.

Manual emergency lowering:
The manual emergency is used to lower the client when the powered emergency lowering
does not work or if the hand control is defective.
Follow the instructions that are placed on the charger or follow the description below:
Fig. 1) Remove the hand control.

Fig. 3) Take the key, which is placed at the top of the
charger. Put the key into the Luna and turn the
key anti clockwise to lower the user.
Note: Scan the QR-code and see the instructions on video.
If one of the emergency stop functions has been activated due to an emergency the Luna
must not be used again before a check has been made and any defect repaired.
If in doubt, contact your dealer or Ergolet.

The Luna can be charged either from the handset charger holder mounted on the wall or
through the charger unit on the Luna Trolley. The charger unit is connected to the mains.
Move the Luna to the charging station and place the hand control onto the charger after
which charging starts automatically.
Note: Luna is fitted with batteries that require regular charging. Ergolet recommends that
Luna is charged every night or when the unit is not in use.
Luna is fitted with a diode (marked BATT.), which gives the following information
concerning battery condition during use:
The LED on the hand control will flash during charging.
The LED lights constantly on the hand control, when the
batteries are fully charged.
The LED lights constantly on the Luna cassette, when the
batteries are fully charged.
The LED on the Luna cassette lights, and indicates that the
batteries are approx. 50% discharged.
Recommend charging to avoid low battery.
The LED on the Luna cassette lights and indicates that the
batteries have reached a critical point.
The LED start flashing and an acoustic (”beep” signal) will
be heard.
Luna must IMMEDIATELY be put on charge in this situation
and remain on charge for 24 hours.
Note: Luna cannot be overcharged.

Luna is ready for use if all the assembly instructions have been followed correctly.
Luna spreader bars are designed for use with Ergolet lifting slings. Ergolet lifting slings have
2-6 lifting straps and are designed for lifting hooks with a minimum diameter on ø8 mm.
Use of non-approved slings will make Ergolet’s responsibility for faults and accidents null
and void.
Ergolet can assist in choosing slings and also the correct use of slings.
Hanging slings on the Ergolet spreader bar
Ergolet accepts no responsibility if slings are placed incorrectly, it is always the onus of the
carer/helper to ensure that the sling is correct for the situation needs and is correctly
mounted.
1) The sling strap is placed over the hook in its open
position.
2) The strap is pulled downwards so that the hook
closes.
Note: The design of the lifting hook is such that the weight
of the client/user will help close the hook.
To release the strap after lifting simply pull upwards to open the hook.
WARNING: Risk of finger entrapment - ensure that user’s fingers cannot get
trapped.

3.2 Room to room transfer
It is possible to move a client from room to room in 2 different ways. To ensure that the
transfer is done correctly without any risk for the client, follow the description A) Transfer
with two Luna ceiling hoist or B) Transfer with one Luna ceiling hoist.
A) Transfer with two Luna ceiling hoist
Note: only possible when using a special spreader bar.
1) In this lifting situation Luna (a and b) are moved,
as close together as it is possible.
2) Luna (a) with user is moved to the door after
which the lifting strap from Luna (b) is extended
and fitted on the extra bracket ring on the
spreader bar.
3) Now with both Luna cassettes connected to the
spreader bar. Check that the hook is fitted
correctly.
4) The lifting strap on Luna (a) released whilst the
lifting strap on Luna (b) is tightened.
5) When the lifting strap on Luna (b) is vertical and
tight this means that the Users weight is on this
unit. The lifting strap on Luna (a) can now be
removed by releasing the spring loaded hook on
the spreader bar (this is done best by lifting the
hook up, press the spring and remove).
6) The transfer can now continue with Luna (b).

B) Transfer with one Luna ceiling hoist
Note: only possible when using a special spreader bar.
1) In this lifting situation Luna (a) is moved, as close as it is
possible to the carts.
2) Luna (a) with user is moved to the door and the transfer
strap (b) from the other room is fitted to the vacant
ring bracket on Luna (a).
3) Now are both strap (a and b) fitted to the Luna
cassette. Check the hook is fitted correctly.
4) The strap on Luna (a) is slowly released until the
transfer straps (b) carries user weight.
5) The strap on Luna (a) can now be removed and fitted
on the cart next to the transfer strap. The lifting strap is
best removed by bringing the bracket up, press the
spring and remove.
Note: It may be necessary to adjust the length of the strap (see below).
Adjusting the length of the strap
The length of the strap can be adjusted to fit the distance between the tracks in the two
rooms.
1) The screw (a) is released.
2) The strap is placed in the correct
position and the bolt (b) is placed
in the corresponding loop (c).
3) Ensure that the screw (a) and the
bolt (b) is tightened before the
Luna is mounted on the cart.

3.3 Using Luna in a shower or bathing environment
The Luna
IPx4
and the hand control are water resistant and can tolerate being sprayed with
water. Ergolet recommend that the normally used for the Luna is as fig. 3.2A and 3.2C.
It may be an advantage to use Luna mounted directly on the rail, as fig. 3.2C.
Note: The IPx4 hand control must not be immersed in water.
Luna may be cleaned using a slightly damp cloth with a small quantity of standard
household cleaning agent. Strong chemicals or abrasive agents must not be used.
Luna must be stored in a dry environment with relative humidity under 70%.
If the Luna is not to be used over a long period press the emergency stop button to save
the battery.
Note: Luna should be fully charged before storing. The batteries will slowly be discharged,
so it is recommended that the Luna is recharged every 3 months to prevent the battery
from being destroyed.

5 CHECK, WARRANTY AND TROUBLE SHOOTING
5.1 Annual check and warranty
The Luna ceiling hoist must always be repaired and maintained by qualified personnel,
including the replacements of print card, batteries, lifting straps and other components.
The manufacturer Ergolet recommends that the ceiling hoist MUST be checked by a
qualified person at least once a year in accordance with Ergolets service instructions. An
annual check is also recommended to the European Standard (EN/ISO 10535) for patient
lifters/hoists including ceiling hoist.
It is the legal owners’ duty to ensure that these checks are carried out on the product.
