- Consultant Veterinary Surgeon Dietrich von Schweinitz.
Important.
Just like humans, every horse is different however the effects of the Equissage CVT are consistent and will achieve maximum therapeutic benets through a regular treatment program. Some horses may receive greater benet with variations to the treatment recommendations detailed in this book. ere are a wide variety of external factors that will, in turn, affect the outcomes and the level of benet obtained. Environmental toxins, parasites, feed quality and water quality are just some of the factors that can adversely affect the overall health of your horse. If chronic or acute symptoms continue then Veterinary advice is recommended in addition to utilising Equissage CVT on your horse.

Standard Seing (STD)
e Equissage Standard seing delivers CVT in a constant steady motion. e unique Equissage eccentric motor, produces an elliptical movement, rather like a gyroscope. is ultimately creates a cycloidal vibration - a multi-directional, threedimensional wave moving up and down, le to right and in a circular motion all at the same time.
e end result is a deep, penetrating massage which has no harmful side effects.
is seing is commonly used on day-to day treatments.

Cyclo Poly Modulation ® CPM
Cyclo Poly Modulation® (CPM) is a
variation of the Equissage CVT which provides a deeper surging action, best used when extra stimulation is required.
By alternating the delivery of CVT between the highest and lowest seings quickly, the CVT has a deeper effect and promotes muscle stimulation and lymphatic drainage, which further assists in reducing swelling and allows muscles to expand and contract gently to assist rehabilitation of muscle groups and as a warm up before competition.
CPM is a great therapy seing to use when increased stimulation to tissue, uids and muscle groups is required. It is also an ideal seing for conditions that involve rehabilitation of muscles, ligaments and tendons.

Tranquil-ssage® (T/S)
e Equissage Tranquil-ssage® system produces slow-moving, rhythmical waves of Cycloid Vibration erapy which penetrate deeply into the tissue producing a hypnotic effect on the nervous system.
Whenever a greater need for relaxation and a calming effect is required, Tranquil-ssage® is the ideal seing and can be used as oen as required.
Moving the massage intensity from highest to lowest seing via a unique undulation, Tranquil-ssage® aids in achieving the ultimate relaxation.
Tranquil-ssage® is a great method to destress your horse before and aer transport as well as the many other reasons both for competition and pleasure, that horses need to improve relaxation.
Tranquil-ssage® was developed with the aim of complete relaxation in mind.

Back Pad Operation
Place the Equissage saddle cloth on the horse's back, as you would for normal riding.
Position Back Pad behind the wither to allow access to girth area with the Hand Pack. Using the adjustable sliding strap through the base of the click, secure girth rmly and do not over-tighten. Place excess strap in keepers.
*Do not pull strap with force.
Connect a fully charged Equissage Lithium-Ion baery supplied to the motor using the leads provided. Clip the baery to the strap on the side of the unit during operation.
Aach breast plate loosely using high or low D Ring, depending on the depth of the horse's neck.
To check if you have positioned the breast plate correctly, make sure that it allows the horse to be able to lower its head without the breastplate pulling tight. To turn the Back Pad on, press the POWER ON/OFF buon.
e Back Pad will automatically switch on to the default seing of Low intensity for 10 minutes.
To adjust the massage intensity, press the intensity up or intensity down buons. e blue LEDs on the le hand side of the control panel indicate the massage intensity, which ranges from Low to High.
To adjust the massage treatment period, press the timer arrow UP to increase time or the ON/OFF buon to reduce time. Each press of the buon will alter the time by 10 minute intervals. e green LEDs on the right hand side of the control panel indicate the massage treatment period remaining.

Baery Charging & General Care
EQUISSAGE BAERY
e Equissage baery is a Lithium-Ion Rechargeable Unit
Connect a fully charged baery to the Back Pad &/or Hand Pack as per the operating instructions.
NOTE - on receiving your Equissage to longer baery life please fully charge the baeries before use. Occasionally perform a small "top up charge" and reuse to help protect baery condition.
BAERY CARE, MAINTENANCE AND STOGE
Lithium-Ion rechargeable baeries require routine maintenance and care in their use and handling. Do not leave baeries unused for extended periods of time. If storing for an extended period it is best to NOT store them with full charge. Approx 40-50% charge will lengthen baery life.
Store your baery in temperatures of 5°C - 20°C. Storing above this will shorten the baery life.
Avoid exposing your baery to excessive heat above 60°C such as leaving the baery on the front dash of a car in direct sunlight.
Approximately every six months charge the baery to about 50% of capacity and then reuse. Fully charge baery upon next recharge.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT THE BAERY IS DISCONNECTED WHEN NOT IN USE.

Research and Testing
Over many years, CVT has had extensive clinical testing, focused case study reviews and medical/veterinary research on humans and animals. e following are a few of the results so you can be condent that your decision to invest in Equissage was the right choice.
Increase Speed and Length of Stride
Equissage treatments prior to half-mile breeze improved post workout recovery within the rst 5 minutes from 71% to 85.5%. Equissage treatments prior to a gallop allowed the mare to move a tick faster for the distance, while expending less energy. Equissage treatments 20 minutes before the post parade improved the Beyer gure by an average of 15 points.
oroEdge Equine Performance Study
Reducing Pain & Enhancing Mobility
e Equissage units are used daily to improve the comfort and mobility. We believe that with regular use of the Equissage CVT units has been helpful in maintaining comfort and quality of life, especially in the colder months. We have also found additional uses for the equipment in reducing discomfort.

LEADING THE WAY IN EQUINE THERAPY
Improved Speed and Length of Stride
Not only did the stride length appear to improve, but also an increase in the speed of the stride (from average 2.6 m/sec to 3.1 m/sec). erefore, the racehorse, polo pony and eventer will all perform with fewer strides in faster time.
Dietrich Graf von Schweinitz, Veterinary Surgeon,

Improved Healing of Wounds
Using CVT to stimulate the circulation to enhance healing can signicantly reduce treatment costs. Benets include faster healing times, beer quality of life and a marked reduction in pain.
Journal of Wound Care vol 14, no 9
Improved Lymphatic Drainage

Improve Performance
oroEdge Equine Performance Study Purpose:
To determine if using Equissage improves performance in thoroughbreds.
e manufacturer claims that use of their product will improve circulation,
joint mobility and respiratory conditions, in addition to:
Relaxing muscles while releasing tension; Reducing swelling; and Improving pre-exercise warm up and post-exercise cool down.
Method:
Science is clear in that heart rate before/during/aer exercise is an accurate
measure of exercise intensity. erefore, if heart rate drops for any given gallop speed, or gallop speed increases for any given heart rate, a positivecondition effect is taking place.
ree methods of exercise were considered: half-mile breezes on the training track, traditional two-mile gallops on the training track and actual six-furlong races during the 2008-2009 season.
For breezing and galloping, the mare was outed with heart rate and GPS sensors to objectively measure performance in terms of the relationship of heart rate to gallop speed.
In racing, the Beyer speed gure is used to grade performance that day. Two races took place with no Equissage treatment, while two took place with treatments 20 minutes before post time.

LEADING THE WAY IN EQUINE THERAPY
e Hand Pack in conjunction with the Leg and Tendon Boot is the most effective way to treat the majority of horse leg and hoof problems.
ese problems include pulled ligaments and tendons, swellings due to knocks or inammation, circulatory disorders, arthritic conditions, sore shins, capped hocks, laminitis and bruising.
e boot in conjunction with the Hand Pack will create a very deep circulatory massage to the whole leg. is in turn will increase local blood and lymphatic circulation, relax muscles and help improve joint mobility.
To apply Leg and Tendon Boot, hold against the side of the leg and wrap the boom Velcro strap tightly around the leg, back onto the body of the Leg and Tendon Boot.
Insert the Hand Pack into the tubular part of the Leg and Tendon Boot. Wrap the upper Velcro strap tightly around the leg and secure onto the body of the Leg and Tendon Boot. Finally, check and make sure that the whole assembly is rmly set against the leg and that the rubber cup is against the joint area (if applicable).
Turn on the Hand Pack at a Low intensity for 1-2 minutes then turn up speed to Medium to High intensity for 10-15 minutes.
e Leg and Tendon Boot can be used above or below the knee but for majority of treatment, 10-15 minutes on the lower leg is sufficient.
For the treatment of sore shins use above the knee for 10-15 minutes once or twice daily.
Respiratory Focus
In general, the majority of respiratory problems will be treated with the Back Pad used on a daily basis in the saddle position for 20 minutes at a Medium intensity. However we recommend the Hand Pack in conjunction with the Back Pad prior to strenuous exercise for optimum care and results.
For the majority of breathing problems, including bleeders and thick winded horses, carry out the following:
Hold the body of the Hand Pack on the brisket at Medium to High intensity for 2 minutes.
Slowly work down the side of the windpipe 3 times at a Medium to High intensity.
Hold the body of the Hand Pack on to the so palate for 1-2 minutes, taking care not to come into contact with the jawbone

Shoulder Focus
In general, the majority of shoulder problems will be treated with the Back Pad used on a daily basis in the saddle position for 20 minutes at a Medium intensity. However we recommend the Hand Pack in conjunction with the Back Pad daily until the problem is cleared up and then once or twice a week for optimum maintenance of movement.
Using the Hand Pack at a Medium to High intensity, take three SLOW “C” shaped movements from the base of the neck down and around to the base of the shoulder, following the forward articulation of the shoulder.
Move the Hand Pack at a Medium to High intensity under the edge of the Back Pad and base of the shoulder (triceps) for 1-2 minutes.

In general, the majority of back problems will be treated with the Back Pad used on a daily basis in the saddle position for 20 minutes at a Medium intensity.
To ensure a quicker healing time and optimum care and results, we recommend the use of the Hand Pack in conjunction with the Back Pad once or twice a week or as necessary.
Place your ngers on the rubber cup and apply Hand Pack 2” below the spine, move slowly down and over the top of the hindquarters at Medium to High intensity.
Gently run the Hand Pack slowly through the nerve channel three times along to the top of the hindquarter.
Repeat on the other side.
Hindquarter Focus
In general, the majority of Hindquarter problems will be treated with the Back Pad used on a daily basis in the saddle position for 20 minutes at a Medium intensity. In the case of pulled muscles or a buildup of lactic acid, use the Hand Pack on a daily basis in conjunction with the Back Pad, then once or twice a week for optimum maintenance.
Using the Hand Pack at Medium to High intensity, move slowly down the muscle.
Covering the top of hindquarter, hip and surrounding muscle area three times, followed by covering the lower hindquarter three times to ease the hamstrings.

Hoof Focus
Equissage can assist with the healing of bruised soles and hoof abscesses.
Apply the Hand Pack with rubber cap directly to the sole of the hoof and for maximum increase of circulation apply the hand pack to the bulb of the heel, this in turn will encourage hoof growth.
Use the Hand Pack on Medium to High intensity for 1-2 minutes, and then in the Leg and Tendon Boot for an additional 15 minutes.

Warming Up
Most client use Equissage before they ride as it stimulates circulation and muscles and aids in warming up a horse before work. For best results, use the Back Pad in the saddle position for 20 minutes on Medium to High intensity prior to riding. Horse can be ridden immediately aer treatment.
On competition days, horses can be treated as above or up to 4 hours prior to competition. e benets of 1 treatment will continue to increase for up to 6-8 hours. Allowing a 4 hour interval between treatment and riding can allows for the therapy to be fully effective, yet also giving time for any necessary bowel movements to occur, and any initial lethargy to pass (which only occurs when using Equissage for the rst time on horses and also depends on their tness levels, age and other factors).
However, trials and experience have also told us that some horses perform best with much shorter intervals, with no negative side effects, so it's very much a case of nding what works best for your horse – and it is oen discipline-dependant, meaning, for example, it is oen beer to give a racehorse a treatment a few hours before a race, whereas a dressage horse performs well straight aer a treatment – when relaxation and suppleness are maximised.
