Before starting this installation, you MUST test your printer to make sure it is printing
100% correctly. If this is a new printer, follow the Epson procedures for installing and
testing the cartridges. It must print properly with these cartridge before the CFS can be
installed. The best way to do this is first print a Nozzle pattern, using the printer utility
software provided by Epson. If the nozzle pattern is perfect, then print 5 copies of the
MIS PURGE4.TIF image using the Plain Paper and 360 dpi settings on the printer. The
Purge4 image can be found on the diskette included with your system or download it from
our website. All 5 pages must print without banding or skipping (white spaces). If your
printer can not do this, do not install the CFS. Run some cleaning cycles until you can pass
this test.

1. Fill Carts if Needed - If you purchased your system prefilled, then go to Step 2.
If the cartridges are empty (no ink in tubes), then vacuum fill the cartridges with
the ink that came with the system or the ink of your choice. Follow the instructions
that came with the MIS Vacuum Pump. When this is complete, go to Step 2.
2. Free Carriage - On the printer, push the Ink button (this is the one that has ink
drop icon on it) to move the cartridges to the Replace position. While in this
position, pull the power plug out of the wall.
3. Remove the Epson cartridges and PARTIALLY install the CFS cartridges. Do not
push the cartridges all the way down. We do not want the seals on the bottom to be
punctured until the tubes have been installed in the bottles.
4. Install the Middle Bracket on the inside surface of the printer housing. The
opening on the bracket should point up. Place it as high as possible. Looking from
the back of the printer, the right edge of the clear bracket should be about one
half inch to the left of center of the printer. See photo below.
The tubing is marked with two vertical black lines. This is where the tube goes into
the bracket. Use some alcohol on the tubes to get them inserted into the clear
bracket.
If you tube does not have the black marks on it, then put marks at 8 3/8 and 9 3/8
from the edge of the black cartridge.
Install the Velcro strip over the ribs on the inside of the housing as shown in the
photo to protect the tubes when they rub or touch the housing.

5. Clean and dry the top of the printer housing with alcohol and place the Right Hand
Bracket as shown in the photo. Lubricate tubes with alcohol and slide them into the
Right Hand Bracket. Once the tubes are securely inserted into the Right Hand
Bracket, un-web the tubes from the right edge of the bracket to the end so that
each tube can be independently installed into its bottle. The tubes are easily unwebbed by just pulling them apart, no tools are required. Don't go too far.
6. If your system was prefilled, cut the tubes just above the light blue pinch clips.
You will lose about 1/2" of tubing, this is OK. If you ordered an empty system you
will not have any pinch clips to cut off. Cut the end of the tubes on a 30 degree
angle so they are pointed. Don't waste any tube length in doing this.
Arrange the bottles in the bottle tray like shown in the top photo. Now insert the
tube into the bottle so the tube reaches the bottom of the bottle. There should be
3 1/2 to 3 3/4 inch of tubing inside the bottle when you are finished. Don't put the
wrong color tube into the wrong ink bottle. Tubes and bottles are marked. Tubes
either have color tags on them or there are traces of ink in the prefilled tubes.
7. Push the cartridges down all the way until they click. Make sure they are properly
aligned and down all the way. This is important. Push the cartridges all the way to
the right, until they stop.
8. Plug the printer back in and turn on the power. Run a few cleaning cycles until you
have a perfect nozzle pattern. The printer is now ready to use. If you have
problems getting a perfect nozzle pattern, let the printer rest overnight, and try
again in the morning.

9. If an ink does not print. Remove the tube from the bottle, lift the cartridge out,
and suck 2 cc of ink out of the bottom of the cartridge using the bottom fill
adapter and syringe. Then reinstall. If you have all colors printing but you are
having problems getting a perfect nozzle pattern after several cleaning cycles,
then let the printer rest overnight and try a few cleaning cycles in the morning.
Don't do more than 9 cleaning cycles. Let the printer rest for a couple of hours
after doing unsuccessful cleanings.
The Care and Feeding of a CFS -
There are a couple of things you should know that will keep your system running trouble
free.
These systems work best if they are used everyday. If you are an infrequent printer or
only print once or twice a week, then you should install our AUTOPRINT program.
Autoprint will make a printout using our Purge6 image everyday as long as you leave your
computer and printer turned on. As an alternative, if you are going to be away for a few
days, buy an automatic timer and install it on your printer power line.
Set it to turn on the printer once per day. When the printer first comes on, it will do a
cleaning cycle. This is equivalent to making a Purge6 print. With the timer installed you will
not have to leave your computer on. Most hardware stores carry these timers, they are
not expensive.
If you have to do cleaning cycles, do them in groups of 3. Print a copy of Purge4 or Purge6
after 3 cleaning cycles. This resets the printer firmware so that you get a short, long, and
medium duration cleaning cycle. If you don't do this, all you will get is the short cleaning
cycle after the 3rd one. Running several short cleaning cycles will cause nozzles to drop
out. If you are still having problems after about 4 or 5 sets of 3 cleanings, then let the
printer rest for a few hours or overnight and try again later. This has worked on many
Epson printers in the past. It gives the air bubbles in the ink a chance to rise to the
surface and get out of the printhead.
Don't let your ink bottles get empty. Refill them when they are at the 1/4 full level.
Before pouring new ink into your bottle, transfer the ink that is left into a clean glass or
jar. Then wash out the CFS ink bottle with soap and water. Then refill with leftover ink
and new ink. This keeps algae from building up on the walls of the bottle and causing
premature ink failure.
