any other device in your system with care and avoid contact with components on the card. Always work on an antistatic surface to avoid possible damage to the card from static discharge. The packing material placed on a table top makes a good antistatic work surface. We assume no responsibility for any damage to the P55-TX 2 mainboard that results from failure to follow installation instructions or failure to observe safety pre­cautions.

1. The "LOAD SETUP DEFAULTS " function loads the system default data directly from ROM and initializes the associated hardware properly. This function is necessary when you accept this mainboard, or the system CMOS data will corrupt.

2. KBPO(KeyBoard Power On) Function : There is a basic requirement that the " +5V SB" power of the ATX power supply must be > = 0.1A (100mA).
Please refer to chapter 3 -1 for detail.
LOAD SETUP DEFAULT
The P55-TX 2 mainboard is a high performance system hardware based
on Intel Pentium processor and is equipped with four PCI slots, four stan­dard ISA slots, a PnP Super I/O controller and two dual-port PCI-IDE connec­tors for the future expansion. The hardware dimension is an ATX form-factor that is 208mm x 305mm with a four-layer design technology.

Intel 82430TX PCIset chipset. Intel Pentium Processor, Pentium Processor with MMXTM technology,
AMD K5/K6 and Cyrix 6x86/6x86L/6x86MX operating at 100 ~ 333 MHz with 321ZIF socket 7 provides scalability to accept faster processors in the future.
Supports an onboard Switching Voltage Regulator to increase CPU and
system reliability.
Supports CPU Vcore Voltage 2.0V/2.1V/2.8V/2.9V/3.2V selection.
Supports up to 256 MegaBytes of DRAM (a minimum of 8 MB) on board (72­Pin SIMM x 4 and 168-Pin DIMM x 2). BIOS will autometically detect and configure FP DRAM, EDO DRAM and SDRAM (Refer to Chapter 2-4, System Memory Configuration).

Supports Onboard Burst/Pipelined burst synchronous L2 Write Back Cache. The cache memory is 512KB (64KB*32 SRAM).
Supports four 16-bit ISA slots and four 32-bit PCI slots and provides two independent high performance PCI IDE interfaces capable of supporting PIO Mode 3 and Mode 4 devices.
Supports ATAPI (e.g. CD-ROM) devices and Ultra DMA 33 Harddisk for both IDE interfaces.

Supports a USB connector. Utilizes a Lithium battery which provides environmental protection and
longer life-time. Supports a CPU temperature alarm so that when CPU's cooling fan is malfunc-
x tioning or CPU overheats, CPU will automatically slow down.
Supports a dual-button configuration which consists of POWER button for Off/ On transitions and SLEEP button for Sleep/Wake transitions. The configuration is for ACPI-defined 4-second override feature of the SLEEP button. When the user presses the power button for less than 4 seconds, the system enters into sleep mode. When the user presses the power button for more than 4 seconds, the system is powered off.

Hardware design
The P55-TX 2 is designed with Intel 82430TX PCIset chipset which is developed
by Intel Corporation to fully support Pentium Processor PCI/ISA system. The Intel 82430TX PCIset chipset can increase integration and improve performance designs. The chipset provides an integrated IDE controller with two high performance IDE interfaces for up to four IDE devices (hard devices, CD-ROM device, etc). The PnP Super I/O controller provides the standard PC I/O functions: a floppy interface, two 16-byte FIFO serial ports and an EPP/ECP capable parallel port. The P55-TX 2 layout is shown in the previous page for user's reference. Care must be taken when insert­ing memory modules, inserting CPU or even plugging PCI card into the associated slots to avoid damaging any circuits or sockets on board. A cooling fan is strongly recommended when installing P54C/P54CTB/P55C (MMX)/K5/K6/6x86 (6x86L) processor due to possible overheat. The P55-TX 2 supports CPU temperature monitor and alarm to prevent CPU's cooling fan from malfunction or CPUoverheat. There is a heat sensor to monitor CPU temperature. If CPU overheats, then speaker will alarm and CPU will slow down to save your data and shutdown the system.

The P55-TX 2 supports a minimum of 8MB of system memory and a maximum of
256MB with 512KB synchronous SRAM onboard to increase system performance.
The P55-TX 2 supports standard Fast Page, EDO (Extended Data Out or Hyper
Page Mode) or synchronous DRAM. The P55-TX 2 provides four 72-pin SIMM and two 168-pin DIMM sites for memory expansion. Each socket supports 1M x 32 (4MB), 2M x 32 (8MB), 4M x 32 (16MB), and 8M x 32 (32MB) single-sided or double­sided memory modules. The memory timing requires 70 ns for Fast Page devices or 60 ns for EDO DRAM. This mainboard has two 168-pin DIMM sites to support 3.3V (power level) Unbuffered Synchronous DRAMs(SDRAM) or 5.0V (power level) Fast Page and EDO DRAM. Memory parity generation and checking are not supported. (DRAM Modules may be parity[x 36] or non-parity[x 32].
The P55-TX 2 supports two Onboard PCI IDE connectors that can support PIO Mode/Ultra DMA 33 device and automatically detect IDE harddisk type by BIOS utility.

The P55-TX 2 supports Award Plug & Play BIOS for the ISA and PCI cards. The BIOS can be located in Flash EPROM. The advantage of having Flash EPROM is much easier to replace BIOS code if necessary.
The P55-TX 2 has been designed with ATX form-factor with ATX power connector. The mainboard layout and system block diagram are shown in Figure 1-1 and Figure 1-2.

This section describes all of the connectors and jumpers equipped in the mainboard. Please refer to Figure 1-1 for the location of each connector and jumper.The figure in the following means connecting pin 1&2 and means connecting pin 2&3. Jumpers with two pins are shown as for open and for close.

Pressing the button once will switch the system on and enter the SLEEP MODE(Suspend mode). While in the SLEEP MODE, a keystrobe or mouse movement (mouse driver exists) will instantly "wake up"the system. Pressing the button while the system is on for more than 4 seconds will turn the system off.
Note : The button should be a momentary switch that is normally on.

This jumper should be brought back to pin 1-2 to restore the normal operation. Here, we strongly recommend you pull out the power cable for safety and for avoiding damaging befor clearing CMOS data.
