ABOUT THE PRODUCT
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
The ENVIROMAC Mobile Welding Smoke Extractor/Mobile Dust Extractor (107.1017) is a HEPA media type Air Cleaner operating on a three-stage filtration principle. After the contaminant is picked up at the hood of the Snorkvac Fume Extractor Flex Arm it is then drawn through the flex arm and through the fan assembly and discharged to the inside part of the prefilter which traps the larger particles. The air then enters the HEPA filter. The filter efficiency of the HEPA media is 99.997% down to a size of .3 micron. The filtered air from the HEPA filter is discharged out the 2 doors. The 2 doors contain charcoal, which eliminates some gases that might be in the filtered air stream. The prefilter and HEPA filters collect particulate only and do not filter gases, which is the sole purpose of the charcoal door filters.
MAJOR COMPONENTS
The ENVIROMAC Mobile Welding Smoke Extractor/Mobile Dust Extractor (107.1017) is a self-contained unit comprised of a fume extractor flex arm (for source capture), fan and motor assembly, (1) throwaway paper prefilter, (1) HEPA filter, (2) carbon door filters, complete cabinet housing and an electrical compartment which also includes a contactor overload.
A) PREFILTER AND HEPA FILTER
This filter combination is the most efficient combination of filters available. The suction will deteriorate at the hood as the filters load up with particulate. Eventually the filters will have to be replaced. The prefilter (107.1016) is a throwaway paper filter. To commence replacing the prefilter, you must remove the door at the front of the machine. This door is removed by removing the (2)
plastic knobs near the bottom of the door and then pulling the door out on an angle so the door is free from the (2) welded bolts. You then pull down on the door to let it slide down from the top of the door. You remove the combination prefilter and HEPA filter by lowering the scissor jack with a ratchet. Then slide out the assembly. You remove the prefilter from the inside of the HEPA filter. You can now put the new prefilter inside of the HEPA filter. DO NOT BLOW OUT
THE LARGER HEPA FILTER. THIS IS A THROWAWAY FILTER. THE MEDIA IS VERY SENSITIVE AND YOU WILL BLOW A HOLE IN THE MEDIA IF CLEANED WITH COMPRESSED AIR. You can now
install the complete filter assembly back into the machine and tighten the filter by raising the scissor jack. Make sure the filter is resting on the back of the filter cradle butted up against the tab locators. Make sure that the top of the filter fits inside the top plate that has a 1” lip on it. Make sure the scissor jack is high enough to allow an airtight seal on the top of the filter gasket. Caution should be taken not to apply too much pressure to the filter assembly or you could distort and damage the filters if too much pressure is applied.
B) CHARCOAL FILTERS Both doors contain the charcoal filters. They should be replaced 1 or twice a year in a normal welding environment.
C) ELECTRICAL COMPARTMENT
The unit operates off 120 volts single phase utilizing a 20-amp service outlet. The motor draws about 17.5 amps under full load conditions. There is a contactor and an overload inside this compartment and the overload are set at about 20% above the 17.5 amps. This will automatically shut off power to the motor in the event of an overload. This gives full protection to the motor. The unit has a spring activated on/off dual switch on
Page 3
the front of the panel. There are facilities to put in an optional halogen light in the hood of the arm. This requires a 120 Volt to 12-volt step down transformer for this option. The halogen light will run off of 12 volts AC.
C) CABINET
The cabinet is built of 14-gauge steel. There are 2 doors on the unit and the discharge of the clean air is through these 2 doors.
D) BLOWER AND MOTOR SECTION
The motor is a 1.5 HP TEFC, 120/1/60, 3600 RPM. The fan is a high-pressure fan fabricated out of 14 gauge metal.
E) ADDITIONAL EQUIPMENT FEATURES
The standard unit comes equipped with the Snorkvac™ 10 Ft. flexible flex arm. The 3 articulated joint sections could be adjusted to suit the operator as to the ease of movement of the 4 different articulations. There is an optional 14 Ft. Snorkvac™ flexible flex arm.
MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE
Filter maintenance
The filters should be cleaned or replaced when there is inadequate suction at the hood. The prefilter should be replaced whenever the suction deteriorates and it has been determined that the HEPA filter does not have to be replaced. The HEPA filter only has to be replaced when the suction is still low after replacing the prefilter. The HEPA filter does not have to be replaced every time the prefilter is cleaned. You normally will replace 3 or 4 prefilters to every HEPA filter.
Part Numbers
Prefilter (Disposable): 107.1016 HEPA filter: 107.1015 The charcoal door filters should be replaced once or twice a year. The arm has friction discs with washers, which
can be adjusted to suit the operator. The unique design of the arm minimizes any problems related to sagging, burn holes in the hose and ease of arm movement. This is a major problem with conventional less expensive fume extractor flex arms.
Thank you for purchasing your new
ENVIROMAC Mobile Welding Smoke
Extractor/Mobile Dust Extractor. The air in your work area will be much healthier to breathe. The HEPA filter should be used to filter out Hexavalent Chromium Fumes when welding stainless steel.

Question: What is the definition of filter efficiency? Answer: Filter efficiency is the ratio of particles trapped by a filter over the total number
of particles found in the air upstream to the filter. A particle counter is often used to determine the number of particles trapped by the filter. Filter efficiency can either be based on specific particle size ranges or based on the total number of particles of all sizes. There are numerous testing procedures utilized for determining filter efficiency.
Particles Trapped / Particles Upstream = Filter Efficiency
EG#1 we start out with 100 particles. The filter traps 99 particles leaving 1 particle upstream that the filter did not trap.
Therefore the filter efficiency=
=99÷1=99% Efficiency
Question: How do they normally do a filtration efficiency test on HEPA media? Answer: One of the most common tests is a DOP test. The DOP test normally bombards
the filter media with particulate that is .3 micron in size and they measure upstream for any particles that penetrated through the filter media.
Question: What is a DOP Test? Answer: DOP stands for “Dioctyl phthalate aerosol challenge”(DOP).
The DOP test procedure can evaluate particle penetration and air flow resistance properties of a variety of filtration materials (e.g. HEPA filters, NIOSH respirators, and filter media). The procedure employs a cold aerosol of dioctyl phthalate (DOP) using a TSI® CERTITEST® Model 8130 Automated Filter Tester. Test articles are challenged with particles of the most penetrating particle size range (0.3 µm). Filtration efficiency measurements can be determined up to 99.999%. Samples can be tested at flow rates up to 90 L/min.
Question: Is the Enviroflex 107.1015 HEPA filter? Answer: Yes

Question: What type of test and what filter efficiency is one on the HEPA media for the
107.1015 Filter? Answer: The HEPA media is put under the DOP test and the efficiency is 99.97% down to .3 micron.
Question: How big is a micron (1.0 µm)? Answer: A micron, short for micrometer, is a unit of measurement equal to one millionth
of a meter. A micron is actually 0.000039 of an inch. To give you an idea what we are talking about here, the period at the end of this sentence is about 397 microns. The eye of a needle is usually elongated, but is 749 microns wide. A human hair is 40 to 120 microns in diameter. A postage stamp is more than 25,000 microns long.
Question: What is the purpose of the Enviroflex 107.1016 or 107.1016A filter? Answer: The 107.1016 or 107.1016A acts as a Prefilter. It filters out the larger particles
so that the HEPA filter does not plug up rapidly. It extends the life of the HEPA filter.
