This document describes the programming of 3rd party remote control for the use with Hydra HD Set Top Box. It covers
the use of TiVO IR control, Slingbox IR, programming 3rd party universal remote control with IR learning mode or
preprogrammed devices.
Hydra HD supports the following preprogrammed devices. Please refer to later sessions for details of programming
your remote control.
• MAGNAVOX 10024-B (TV)
• CENTURION 00092-B (TV)
• TOSHIBA TSR-202 (Satellite Box)
• HITACHI HDS-100R (Satellite Box)
The table below summarizes the supported keys in TiVO, Slingbox and 3rd party universal remote controls:

Hydra HD supports 4 IR keycodes and they are configured in TiVo as follows :

The example belows illustrates the use of TiVO IR key code with MAGNAVOX 10024-B or CENTURION 00092-B.
1. Press “INPUT” and then “MENU” in sequence within 1 second on the Entone Universal Remote Control to
enter the User Menu. Under URC IR KeyCode, select MAGNAVOX 10024-B or CENTURION 00092-B, and
then select SUBMIT to save the changes.

5. Make sure the IR cable is connected to the Hydra properly (please refer to the Tivo documentation for proper
connection) and select OK, I’m sure the IR cable is hooked up correctly.
6. Select “005” (typical for digital cable)
7. Select NO (typical).

8. On the TiVo remote, press the following keys in order: THUMBS UP > THUMBS DOWN > PAUSE > PLAY
•You should hear 5 rings when you enter the key sequence above. If you do not hear the rings, enter
the code again.
9. On the Channel Changing Tests screen, you should now see the phrase “Press ENTER for advanced setup”
at the bottom of the screen. Press the ENTER key on your remote.
10. You will now see the Cable Channel Changing Advanced Setup screen. Highlight IR Code and press
SELECT.
11. Enter 10024 for MAGNAVOX IR Code, then press SELECT. Or enter 00092 for CENTURION IR Code, then
press SELECT.

5. On this page, you will be selecting the IR code to control the Entone STB, please make sure the remote
control IR cable is connected to the slingbox and pointed at the IR receiver of the Entone STB.
Select “Code5” from the listbox and you need to test the IR code by pressing the Power button in the setup
assistant, the STB would be put into standby mode. Click NEXT to continue to step 4
NOTE: If Code 5 is not working, you may try to use “Code 1” instead.
6. In step 4, you will be setting up the Internet streaming, and after that you will finish the setup wizard. You can
bring up the remote control in the SlingPlayer main window with the “View > Show Remote Control” or press
keyboard shortcut ALT + R. You may control the HydraHD / AmuletHD with the Sling Player’s remote control.

The 3rd Party Universal Remote can be programmed to control Hydra HD using learning mode or preprogrammed
device code entry.
4.1 Learning Mode
If learning mode is used, the 3rd party universal remote learns the key code from Entone URC+.
1. Register the Entone URC+ to the decoder you wish to control, for detailed steps on Entone remote registration
please refer to the Entone URC+ User Manual.
a. Press the OK button on the Hydra HD for 5 seconds until the “RC REG” message displayed on the
Front Panel
b. Press the STB button on the remote for 5 seconds until the backlight illuminates, the Entone remote
is in registration mode
c. Press the STB button again and both the STB and AUX button will be illuminated
d. Press “1” or “2” or “3” on the remote if you wish to control decoder 1, 2 or 3 respectively
e. The Hydra HD front panel would display “RC REG Dx” if the remote registration is successful, where
Dx refers to decoder 1, 2 or 3.
2. Change the Entone URC+ to IR mode
a. Press the STB button on the remote for 5 seconds until the backlight illuminates, the Entone remote
is in registration mode
b. Press the STB button again and both the STB and AUX button will be illuminated
c. Press “0” on the remote to set it to IR only mode.
3. Learn the key according to the 3rd party universal remote. You may refer to the user manual of the 3rd
Universal Remote for details.
NOTE: After programming your universal remote, it will control the decoder which you have registered in step 1d above.
4.2 Preprogrammed Device
For preprogrammed device entry, you will need to locate the supported device keycode from the 3rd party universal
remote. Hydra HD supports 4 device keycodes: MAGNAVOX 10024-B, CENTURION 00092-B, TOSHIBA TSR-202,
HITACHI HDS-100R. You can select the IR keycode and decoder being controlled by the IR in the Entone User Menu.
1. To bring up the User Menu, press INPUT and Menu on the Entone URC+. Press Down arrow key to navigate
to the URC IR KeyCode. To change the IR keycode, press OK to set focus on the item. Press Up arrow or
Down arrow to select the keycode. Press OK again to leave this item after the change is made.
The item “URC IR Command Sent To” specifies which decoder would respond to the IR command. You can
set the IR command to be sent to decoder 1 or 2 or 3.

3. Press OK on the Entone remote to submit the form and the following screen will be shown to confirm the
changes has been saved.
4. Refer to your universal remote user manual. Find the brand name (Magnavox, Centurion, Toshiba or Hitachi)
under satellite box key to match the URC IR Keycode device you have selected in step 1 above.
5. Refer to your universal remote user manual to program the device keycode you have selected.
NOTE: If you do not find the 4 supported device keycode under satellite box, you can try using the 4 supported brands
under other device categories such as TV.
NOTE: If you do not find any preprogrammed device keycode works with Hydra HD and your universal remote control
supports learning mode, you can try the learning mode.
