Congratulations for choosing PDF Standardizer,
the automated and reliable PDF Standardization tool for your workflow.
Please take a few minutes to familiarize yourself
with PDF Standardizer using this Quick-Start
Guide.
This Guide will describe to you step by step
each option and choice that you will have to
make in order to create a PDF Standardization
flow.
This Quick-Start Guide will also introduce you
briefly to the three technologies that are embedded in PDF Standardizer :
• Enfocus PitStop Server Library
• Alwan CMYK Optimizer Library
• Enfocus FullSwitch
For a complete description of the features of
each of these applications, you can refer to the
individual manual of each application.

Enfocus PitStop Server
Library overview
Enfocus PitStop Server is the world leading
software for PDF preflight and control.
PDF Standardizer is supplied with the latest
PitStop Server Library available.
A library version means that you can use PDF
Profiles in your PDF Standardizer flow, but you will
not be able to create or define workflows using
PitStop Server as a stand-alone application.
PitStop Server Library embedded in PDF
Standardizer will allow you to use Enfocus PDF Profiles (.ppp), Enfocus Action Lists (.eal),
generate Preflight Reports and, of course, use
Enfocus Certified PDF technology.
PDF Standardizer is supplied with industry
standard Ghent PDF Workgroup PDF Profiles
for PDF Preflighting and Certification. Included
GWG PDF Profiles are version 1v4 profiles that
are compliant with the PDF/X-1a:2001 output
intents.

Alwan CMYK Optimizer
Library overview
Alwan CMYK Optimizer is the world leading
software for color preflight and standardization.
PDF Standardizer is supplied with the latest
CMYK Optimizer Library available.
A library version means that you can use CMYK
Optimizer Standard settings that are available
in your PDF Standardizer application, but you
will not be able to edit these settings.
You also can not create or define workflows
using CMYK Optimizer as a stand-alone
application.
CMYK Optimizer library embedded in PDF
Standardizer offers CMYK Optimizer Prepress edition features.
This edition allows you to Standardizer TAC
values, color separation and GCR for all your
PDF files, CMYK Optimizer also allows you to

Enfocus FullSwitch
overview
FullSwitch offers FTP and e-mail file reception,
file sorting based on file type and naming
convention, flow management, and automated
email notification to operators or customers.

FullSwitch is based on configurators that allow
third-party applications to be integrated easily
in a flow.
Setup and automation of those applications is
fully controlled from within FullSwitch.
To use third-party applications, you juste have
to install them on PDF Standardizer computer.
PDF Standardizer is based on the full version of
FullSwitch.

Alwan PDF Standardizer
Creating a PDF Standardized Workflow
Install and launch PDF Standardizer.
Upon startup you will be asked to choose
between a FullSwitch flow or PDF Standardizer
Wizard.

FullSwitch Flow
Choose PDF Standardizer, then click the Finish
button.
This Wizard will help you create and define a
Standardized PDF workflow that meets your
needs in a very simple way.
The Wizard will ask you simple questions,
and depending on your answers, a flow
corresponding to your needs will be
automatically created for you.
Remember that you will always be able to find
additional information and explanation about
each possible answer in the Information field as
shown below:
Question 1:
Where are your input files produced ?
PDF Standardizer Wizard will start.
If you know, please tick the origin of the PDF files
you receive.
If you do not know tick “I don’t Know”
The answer to this question will determine
Standard Input ICC Profiles for the flow.
If you choose:
Europe: ECI/ISO12647 ICC relevant Profiles will
be used.
USA: IDEAlliance ICC relevant Profiles will be
used.
Everywhere: ECI/ISO12467 ICC Profiles will be
used.
If your PDF files originators use non standard
RGB or CMYK profiles, you can choose Custom
and select these profiles manually.

Question 2:
Are you processing...
PDF Standardizer allows you to set flows that are
compliant with the latest Ghent PDF Workgroup
1v4 specifications.
These specifications require that Ads and other
Documents be processed distinctly.
Difference between the two is the following:
Ads: Allows only 1 page PDF documents.
Any document: Allows one or multiple pages
PDF documents.
Question 4:
Where are you input files printed?
If you know, please tick the destination of the
PDF files you produce.
If you do not know tick “I don’t Know”
The answer to this question will determine a
Standard Output ICC Profile for the flow.
If you choose:
Europe: ECI/ISO12647 ICC relevant Profiles will
be used
USA: IDEAlliance ICC relevant Profiles will be
used.
Question 3:
Would you like to use any embedded profile(s)
and intent(s) ?
If you would like to use any ICC profile
information embedded in a PDF file, tick Yes.
If not, please tick No.
If you are not sure, please tick “I don’t know”.
PDF Standardizer will adapt and use the chosen
Default Profiles.
Everywhere: ECI/ISO12467 ICC Profiles will be
used.
I don’t know: ECI/ISO12467 relevant ICC Profiles
will be used.
Question 5:
On which printing process are your files
printed?
Please choose your output printing Process
among the available options.
If your output process is a digital press, a digital
printer, or an analog press having a custom
profile, please tick Digital / Custom.
This will allow you to use your custom output
process profile. If you are not sure, please tick
“I don’t know”. PDF Standardizer will use a
relevant ECI profile.

Question 6:
How do you want to manage spot colors?
This dialogue allows you to define Spot Colors
management of your PDF documents (Q2)
If you are not sure, please tick “I don’t know”,
your spot colors will be kept unchanged.
Question 7:
On which paper are your files printed?
(Available paper options depend on the process you have selected in Q5)
Question 8:
What would you like to do?
Preflight: allows you to preflight your file to
check if it has is any PDF or color compliancy
problem. This option does not fix any
encountered problem.
A preflight report is saved in the flow Report
folder.
Standardize: allows you to preflight and fix most
PDF and color compliancy problems that may
be found. A preflight report is also saved in the
flow Report folder with found errors, warnings
and successful fixes,
Please choose your actual paper category.
If you are not sure, please tick “I don’t know”.
The best category of paper for the output process will be selected.
A successfully Standardized and certified file will
have no Errors left after Standardization.
Question 8-1:
Transparencies Management:
(appears only if you choose Preflight in Q8)
Reject: PDF containing Transparent Objects will
be put in Error Folder.
Allow: PDF containing Transparent Objects will
be processed by the following flow steps (CMYK
Optimizer and PitStop certification).
I don’t know: If you are not sure, please tick
“I don’t know”. PDF containing Transparent
Objects will put in Error Folder.
Note! Transparencies are not compliant with
Ghent PDF Workgroup 1v4 specifications.

Transparencies Management:
(appears only if you choose Standardize in Q8)
Put in Error Folder: if PDF contains transparent
objects, it will be put in flow Error Folder.
Flatten and Rasterize: if PDF file contains
transparent objects, corresponding page
will be Flattened and Rasterized by CMYK
Optimizer.
I don’t know: If you are not sure, please tick
“I don’t know”. PDF containing Transparent
Objects will put in Error Folder.
Standardize Output Ink Coverage (TAC):
Maximum TAC of your output separations will
be limited to your desired value. If you choose
this option, all files TAC will be checked but only
those having high TAC will be processed.
Files having compliant TAC will remain
unchanged.
Standardize Output Separations (GCR):
Separations GCR will be harmonized to your
desired option.
Both: This option will standardize all your files
output TAC and GCR to your desired settings.
This is a recommended option to avoid high
ink density problems and to improve printability
and stability on press as well.
I don’t know: If you are not sure, please tick
“I don’t know”. Standard and secure TAC and
GCR values will be used by the software.
Question 10-1:
Define your desired ouput TAC:
(appears only if you choose Standardize Output Ink Coverage (TAC) or Both in Q9)

If you chose Preserve Spot Colors option in Q6
and Flatten and Rasterize option in Q8-2, files
containing Spot Colors and Transparencies will

Please note that rasterizing PDF pages is a CPUconsuming and disc space-consuming process
(100 GB free space recommended)

Output Profile TAC: Maximum TAC of output
CMYK profile defined above will be applied.
Custom TAC: You can define your desired
maximum TAC if it is different from above default

4 - PiStop Certification (ISO & GWG Compliancy)
PitStop Server will validate your file PDF and Color

GWG relevant Profiles will be used for this

5 - Merge Error Reports (Merge Tool)
Both PitStop Server and CMYK Optimizer issue
a report after their Preflight and Correction
operations. Merge Tool will merge these two
reports in order to give you one complete report
summarizing Errors, Warnings and Fixes for each
PDF file.
Error Reports folder contains reports of files that
contain errors that were not possible to fix.
Corresponding files are not fully compliant with
ISO PDF-X1a and ISO 12647.
You may want to fix these files or print them
knowing found errors and risks.

6 - Merge OK Reports (Merge Tool)
OK Reports folder contains reports of files that
are compliant with ISO standards.
