Instructions for Battery Replacement - Apple iPod™ 3rd Generation
These instructions come with no warranty or guarantee. Improper assembly or use of excessive force
may result in damage to your iPod™. The buyer assumes full responsibility for damages or problems
caused by use of these instructions. Installing this battery requires a moderate level of technical ability
and proficiency in the use of hand tools as well as a general understanding of electronic components.
Step 1
Measure 6cm (2-3/8”) down one side of the iPod™ and begin prying the case open at this point.
Work back and forth along the seam using the included plastic tool.
Step 2
Carefully loosen one side first, then work your way around the iPod®, undoing the clips from the
silver case by prying towards the center of the iPod™. The case will still be attached by a ribbon
cable—do not detach the ribbon cable.
Step 3
Once the case is open, remove the hard drive by carefully lifting the blue rubber padding with
the hard drive away from the iPod™. The hard drive will be connected at the base by a small
ribbon cable tab. Gently lift this tab, disconnect the hard drive and set it aside for re-assembly.
Step 4
Use the included tool to remove the battery from its compartment. You will notice the power
cable is wrapped under the green motherboard. Carefully pull the power cord out from under the
motherboard and unplug the power connector to remove the battery.
Step 5
Plug in the new battery, making sure to wrap the power cord back under the motherboard before
securing the battery to its compartment. Reconnect the hard drive to the motherboard and
ensure the connection by gently pulling on the hard drive. Secure the hard drive back into
position and snap the silver metal case back on the iPod™.
Your new battery will need a minimum of three hours charge time before its first use.
