communicator. Pushing the colored plate below the icon holder
plays your pre-recorded message while the bright light shines.
Records four messages, five seconds each, for a total record
time of 20 seconds. Four icon holders included. Size: 18"L x

1. Locate the battery compartment under the bottom of the
unit. Remove the small Phillips head screw from the cover
and slide cover off. Next install four AA batteries into the
compartment, being sure to observe the (+) & (-) polarity of
the batteries. Alkaline batteries are recommended because
they last longer. Do not use rechargeable batteries because
they supply a lower voltage and the unit may not perform as
well.
2. On the right side of the unit is the black On\Off\Vol control
knob. Turn the knob clockwise to turn the unit on and also
increase the volume.
3. The Record button is left side of the Compartment
Communicator. To record a message, first press and hold
the red button then press down one of the four large colored
buttons in one of the compartments. The microphone is
located center just above the compartments and looks like a
black button. Speak into the microphone when recording
(approximately 6 to 8 inches away). The unit will retain
recorded information indefinitely, even if the batteries are
disconnected. Previously stored information will be erased
every time a new recording is performed.
4. Changeable picture cards slide behind the clear covers on
the black 3-inch x 3-inch icon holders. Each icon holder is
held in place with Velcro so that the user can quickly change
the icons.
5. When one of the four switch plates is pressed, a
corresponding LED light with illuminate above the icon
holder, for as long as the switch plate is depressed.
1. The memory of this unit is capable of holding up to 20 seconds of
speech information total. Maximum message length is 5 seconds
for each segment. If the message exceeds this limit, it will
overwrite the message in the next compartment within the bank (in
ascending order). It is possible to use the unit in this manner, but
for simplicity we recommend recording of messages of 5 seconds
each or shorter.
2. The 4 Compartment Communicator will shut off automatically after
playback to preserve battery life. However, the device will remain
on after recording, unless the message is played back at least
once. Be sure to playback one segment immediately after
recording, or before storing the unit.
3. If the unit fails to operate, or operates incorrectly, disconnect
the power by removing one of the batteries for 20 seconds to
reset the unit. If the unit still does not work correctly after
battery is reconnected, replace all batteries with new alkaline
batteries. Never mix old and new batteries together. Never
mix brand different types or brands of batteries together.
4. Check that all switch plates are moving freely. Any obstruction
of the plates will cause the unit to not function or function
improperly.
