Emotiva Pro Control Freak - Installation and Configuration
The Emotiva Pro Control Freak is a passive volume control, which can be used to
control any line level analog audio signal. The Control Freak is ideal for controlling
the level of powered monitors, or for adding a high-quality analog volume control to
a computer-based audio system. Because it is passive, the Control Freak introduces
virtually no noise or distortion. However, the single most important feature of the Control
Freak is convenience.
Taking the philosophy of “form matches function” to its logical extreme, the Control
Freak is comprised of a large volume knob, which can be positioned anywhere on your
desk or console - wherever it is within easy reach of your hand. The Control Freak’s
solid construction and soft rubber base pad ensure that it stays put on any at surface;
the Control Freak’s high-quality audio taper potentiometers deliver smooth noise-free
adjustment, with excellent channel tracking, and the huge knob makes it easy to set any
level you need precisely and accurately.
To avoid messy wires, the inputs and outputs for the Control Freak are all located on a
handy control pod - which is attached to the rear of the Control Freak’s base by a single
two meter umbilical cable. Instead of simply using a junction box, which would only
allow cables to enter and exit from certain directions, each input and output consists
of an individual in-line connector on a short cable. This takes up less space, makes it
much easier to route cables, and allows you to easily drop your cables behind a console
or desk. Since the Control Freak is passive, no other wall warts or power connections
are required.
The Control Freak is designed to control two channels of audio (stereo), and comes in
both balanced and unbalanced versions.
Specifications
The balanced version of the Control Freak uses four precision matched audio taper
10 kOhm potentiometers to control output level - while adding virtually no noise or
distortion. The unbalanced version of the Control Freak uses two precision matched
audio taper 10 kOhm potentiometers.
