1. Digital Audio Inputs
The PT2 provides several dierent digital audio inputs to accommodate a variety of digital audio
sources.
• The asynchronous USB input accepts digital audio from a computer or other digital audio
source that supports an external USB audio device. It supports standard stereo PCM digital
audio up to 24/192k.
• The Coax input accepts PCM electrical S/PDIF digital audio signals up to 24/192k. This input
is often used to connect the digital audio output from a CD player or Blu-Ray disc player. This
input ONLY accepts STEREO PCM audio signals.
• The Optical inputs accept PCM optical S/PDIF digital audio signals, often referred to as Toslink,
up to 24/192k. This input is used to connect the Toslink output from a TV, disc player, or media
player. This input ONLY accepts STEREO PCM audio signals.
• The Bluetooth input (antenna) accepts audio from a Bluetooth enabled smart phone or other
Bluetooth source device.
Note: The USB audio input on the PT2 utilizes an asynchronous USB Audio Class 2 type input,
which can be connected directly to Windows 10 computers, and to Apple computers with
standard USB audio outputs. In order to use this input with a Windows 10 computer you will
need to download and install our free USB audio driver - which you can download from the
Emotiva Lounge (our Forum). You will not need to install a driver to use this input with Apple
computers that oer standard USB audio outputs. However, some Apple devices, including
most that use IOS, will reauire the use of a special Apple USB hardware adapter.
Page 10
Page 15
BasX PT2 and BasX TA2
2. Trigger Input and Output
A 12 VDC signal is sent from the Trigger Output of the PT2 to turn on other devices when the PT2
is turned on. This signal can be used to turn on other trigger-enabled audio equipment such as a
power amplier.
The PT2 will turn on when it receives a trigger signal from another trigger enabled device. The
PT2 will accept trigger signals between 5V and 12V AC or DC. (Most devices use a 12 VDC trigger
signal.)
Note: A trigger signal will only turn on the PT2 if the PT2 is in Standby mode - with the rear
panel AC Power Switch in the On position.
3. FM Antenna Input
Connect an FM radio antenna to this input to receive FM radio.
Note: Your BasX PT2 was supplied with a simple wire FM antenna. You will get the best
reception if this wire is stretched vertically and above any metal obstructions. For better
reception, especially in fringe reception areas, this can be replaced with a more powerful
directional antenna.
4. Power Cord Receptacle
Use this receptacle to attach the included power cable for the PT2.
5. AC Power Switch
Switches the main AC power to the PT2 On and O. When this switch is O, no controls operate,
and the PT2 cannot be turned On from the front panel Standby Button or remote control.
6. Phono Input
Connect the Left and Right outputs from your turntable to the Phono Inputs on the PT2. If your
turntable provides a separate ground connection connect it to the Ground lug.
Set the Loading / Type Switch to the appropriate setting for your phono cartridge.
For Moving Coil cartridges you may select a load impedance of either 47 Ohms or 100 Ohms.
For Moving Magnet cartridges the load impedance is xed at the standard 47k Ohms.
Note: Some turntables may not provide a separate ground lead. You may also nd that, even
on some turntables that provide a ground lead, you get less hum when it is disconnected.
Note: The Phono Input is intended to accept the low-level output from a moving magnet or
moving coil phono cartridge, and includes RIAA phono equalization. DO NOT connect a line
level source to this input or the sound will be distorted and you may damage the Phono Input.
If your turntable has a built-in phono preamp, and provides a line level output, then you should
connect it to an Analog Input instead.
Note: The manufacturers of some phono cartridges may instruct you to set the gain switch to
MM for a “high output moving coil cartridge”; always follow manufacturer’s recommendations.
Page 11
Page 16
BasX PT2 and BasX TA2
7. Analog Inputs (Line Level Stereo Inputs)
The Analog Inputs on the PT2 will accept unbalanced line level inputs from CD players, streamers,
and other line level stereo analog sources.
8. Home Theater Bypass Analog Input
The Home Theater Bypass input on PT2 accepts a 2.1 channel line level analog input. When Home
Theater Bypass is selected from the PT2 menu this signal is routed directly to the Sub Output and
Preamp Output on the PT2.
Note: Even though the incoming signal is routed via a relay, and does not pass through any
active audio circuitry, the HT Bypass signal is only routed to the output when the PT2 is On.
Note: The Home Theater Bypass inputs on the BasX PT2 are routed directly to the outputs and
BYPASS BOTH THE VOLUME CONTROL AND BASS MANAGEMENT ON THE PT2.
9. Summed Subwoofer Output (With Active Low-Pass Filter)
This output allows you to connect a powered subwoofer to the PT2. When the Low Pass switch
is set to O a full range summed signal is sent directly to the Subwoofer Output. Setting this
switch to On engages an analog 12 dB/octave low-pass lter whose rollo frequency can be set to
anywhere between 40 Hz and 200 Hz.
10. Preamp Output (With Optional High Pass Filter)
This is the main line level Preamp Output which you will connect to the power amp that powers
your main left and right speakers. When the High Pass switch is set to O this output delivers a
full range stereo signal. Use this option if you don’t have a subwoofer.
Setting this switch to On engages an analog 12 dB/octave high-pass lter whose cuto frequency
can be set to anywhere between 40 Hz and 200 Hz.
Note: If your sub has a Phase control or switch, it should be set for THE MOST BASS at or near
the crossover point, as heard from your main listening position. (This should NOT produce a
lump in the bass response if you set the Bass Management on the PT2 correctly.)
Note: In most cases, if you plan to use a powered subwoofer, the best option is to allow the
PT2 to handle Bass Management, which is done by setting both the Low Pass and High Pass
Switches to On, and the Frequency controls on both to the same frequency. In this case you will
want to bypass any Bass Management options on the subwoofer itself. (If your sub has an LFE
input then use that; if there is an option to bypass its internal crossover choose that; if there is
no option to bypass the internal crossover then set it to its highest frequency.)
Note: If you prefer to use the Bass Management controls on your sub to match it to your main
speakers then you should set the Low-Pass switch on the PT2 to O.

This output allows you to connect a powered subwoofer to the TA2. When the Low Pass switch
is set to O a full range summed signal is sent directly to the Subwoofer Output. Setting this
switch to On engages an analog 12 dB/octave low-pass lter whose rollo frequency can be set to
anywhere between 40 Hz and 200 Hz.
10. Preamp Output (With Optional Active High-Pass Filter)
This is a line level Preamp Output which you can connect to a separate power amp to power your
main left and right speakers. This output carries the same preamp signal that is used to drive the
internal power ampliers in the TA2.
When the High Pass switch is set to O this output delivers a full range stereo signal. Use this
option if you don’t have a subwoofer. Setting this switch to On engages an analog 12 dB/octave
high-pass lter whose cuto frequency can be set to anywhere between 40 Hz and 200 Hz.
11. Speaker Outputs
This is the main output you will use to connect a pair of speakers to the power amplier outputs
on the TA2. Although this output is always active, if you wish to use the TA2 as a preamp, you are
not required to connect speakers.
Note: THE HIGH-PASS FILTER FOR THE PREAMP OUTPUT ALSO CONTROLS THE AUDIO SIGNAL
BEING SENT TO THE MAIN AMPLIFIER SECTION OF THE TA2. IF THE HIGH-PASS SWITCH IS SET TO
ON THEN THE SAME 12 DB/OCTAVE HIGH-PASS FILTER WILL BE APPLIED TO THE SIGNAL BEING
SENT TO THE MAIN AMPLIFIERS.
Note: If you plan to use the power amps in the TA2 to power your main speakers, and connect
a powered subwoofer to the Subwoofer Output, and you plan to allow the TA2 to control Bass
Management, you will typically want both the Low Pass and High-Pass Switches set to On, and
the Frequency controls on both set to the same frequency.

BasX PT2 and BasX TA2
BasX PT2 and BasX TA2 Display and Menu System
The BasX PT2 and TA2 feature a large, bright, easy to read VFD (vacuum uorescent display) which
keeps you informed of the current status at all times.
In normal operation, this display shows the currently selected Input.
When you change the Volume setting, the display switches to display the Volume setting for
several seconds, then returns to showing the currently selected Input. The display also sometimes
momentarily displays other useful information - like the sample rate of the signal coming into a
digital input when you select it.
When the PT2 or TA2 is turned on, it always returns to same Input and Volume setting as when it
was turned o. The only exception to this is that, as a safety feature, if the unit is turned o while
set to a very high Volume setting, it will restart at a maximum Volume level of 62. If you turn the
PT2 or TA2 o while it’s in the Setup Menu, when you turn it on it will start up in normal operating
mode.
When you turn the unit on, the display will show a welcome message, then briey display the
Volume setting that was current when the unit was turned o. The Volume setting will then return
to zero and ramp up to the previous Volume setting that was shown.
The BasX PT2 and TA2 also have a Setup Menu, which is used to congure various system options,
like the brightness of the display, to congure and access the Tuner Presets, and to adjust the
Bass, Treble, and Balance settings. The Setup Menu is accessed by pressing and holding the
Volume knob on the front panel, or by pressing the Menu Button on the remote control. Pressing
the Volume knob briey, or pressing the Mute button on the remote control, toggles the Mute
function on and o.
Note: THE SETUP MENU WILL OFFER DIFFERENT OPTIONS DEPENDING ON WHICH INPUT IS
SELECTED WHEN YOU ENTER THE MENU SYSTEM. TUNER OPTIONS will ONLY appear in the
Setup Menu if the Tuner Input is selected when you enter the Menu System.

the decoder to monaural mode will often improve the signal quality signicantly. This may enable
you to receive more stations in “listenable quality”.
Press the Right button to enter the Menu item, use the Up / Down buttons or Volume knob to
select Mono or Stereo; use the Left Button to exit when you’re done.
Note: The Mono/St setting ONLY aects stereo FM broadcasts. It has no eect on monaural FM
boradcasts and does NOT convert other types of stereo audio inputs to monaural.

Connecting digital audio sources to your PT2 or TA2
Connect your digital audio sources to the appropriate inputs.
Note: The digital inputs are designed to accept STEREO digital audio signals, and will not work
with encoded digital surround sound audio signals. Some of your source devices may require
you to congure them to deliver a stereo signal.
Connecting analog line level audio sources to your PT2 or TA2
Connect each of your stereo analog line level sources to one of the four Analog Inputs on the
PT2 or TA2.
Connecting a turntable to your BasX PT2 or TA2
If you have a turntable with a direct output, then it should be connected to the Phono Input on
the PT2 or TA2, and the Phono Input Loading / Type Switch should be set for the type of cartridge
you have. A standard load of 47 kOhms is used for moving magnet cartridges. A load impedance
of either 47 Ohms or 100 Ohms may be selected for moving coil cartridges. If your turntable has a
separate ground wire, connect it to the Phono Input Ground Lug.
Note: Most moving coil cartridges will deliver the most accurate sound when you use the
impedance that is recommended by the manufacturer. However, each setting will sound
slightly dierent, so feel free to choose the one you prefer. If your turntable has a separate
ground wire, connect it to the Phono Input Ground Lug.
Note: The manufacturers of some cartridges may specically instruct you to use unusual
settings; for example, some moving coil cartridges may specify that you use the “moving
magnet” setting for proper output level. Always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Note: Some turntables have a built-in phono preamp and a line-level output. If so, then their
line level output should be connected to a line level input on the BasX PT2 or TA2.
Connecting a trigger-enabled device to your BasX PT2 or TA2
You can use the Trigger Output on the PT2 or TA2 to turn on another trigger-enabled device, like a
power amp, and you can use the Trigger Input on the PT2 or TA2 to allow it to be turned on by the
trigger signal from a trigger-enabled source device.
Note: The PT2 or TA2 must be in Standby mode if you wish another device to be able to turn it
on with a trigger signal.
Line Voltage
Both the BasX PT2 and BasX TA2 have circuitry that enables them to automatically detect the
proper line voltage and congure themselves automatically when you plug them in. Both will
operate on either 115 VAC or 230 VAC at 50 Hz or 60 Hz.
Page 27

Care and Maintenance
Periodic Maintenance
Your BasX PT2 or BasX TA2 requires no periodic maintenance or calibration.
Cleaning your PT2 or TA2
• If necessary, the PT2 or TA2 should be cleaned gently with a soft rag.
• If something sticky gets on the front panel or case of the PT2 or TA2, it should be cleaned with
a mild cleaning solution applied to a soft rag, followed by wiping with a clean rag dampened
with plain water and drying with a soft dry rag or cloth.
Note: DO NOT spray water or cleaning solution directly onto the PT2 or TA2 or into the vents.
