1.0 OVERVIEW

The CONVI104R converts a composite video signal into an SDI signal according to the
ITU-R601 standard. The SDI output is double.

The product, consisting of a plug-in, can be fitted in the Elpro DVR-MV/RK 19" 2RU rack.

Like all Elpro plug-ins, the CONVI104R is self-powered and consists of two parts:

-The actual plug-in that can be inserted in the rack from the front.

-The rear box, called CRB104, that can be fastened with two screws in the rear part of
the rack.

The CONVI104 plug-in can be fitted with an optional FRAME SYNCHRONIZER board
that provides two SDI synchronous outputs with an analogue reference signal that enters
through the REF. LOOP input.

The SDI output signals contain the EDH packet.

2.0 FRONT PANEL

The following are located on the front panel of the
CONVI104R:

2.1 Green FRAME sync. led which, if ON,
indicates that the optional FRAME
SYNCHRONIZER board has been
installed inside and that the look to the external
REF. LOOP signal is active.

2.2 Green SDI OUT led which, if ON, indicates
a correct SDI signal in output.

2.3 Green ON led

3.0 INSTALLATION

3.1 Insert the rear box CRB104 in the rear part of the DVR-MV/RK rack, supporting the
BNC connectors with the two screws provided.

Insert the CONVI104R plug-in in the rear part of the rack, securing it with the two pawls
already screwed to the front panel of the plug-in.

3.2 Connect the DVR-MV/RK rack to the 230 Vac 50Hz mains supply

WARNING

Connection of the yellow/green wires (Y/G)

of the cable leading out of the rack is compulsory.

The green ON led must light up on all the plug-ins inserted in the rack.

WARNING

The DVR-MV/RK rack accommodates any Elpro plug-in compatible with the rack.

The CONVI104R converter does not have internal presets.

3.3 Connect the composite video source to be converted to the BNC identified as CV IN
with coax cable RG59B/U

For excellent conversion results, the input should be integral and immune to losses.
Therefore, if the source is close enough to the CONVI104 (max. 20 mt), there is no need
to compensate losses due to the cable that carries the signal. If the source is at more
than 20 mt, it is advisable to offset losses using a DA104 or DA204 type equalizing
distributor that can be fitted in the same DVR-MV/RK rack. The DA104 or DA204 must be
inserted immediately before the input of the CONVI104.

3.4 If the optional FRAME SYNCHRONIZER board is installed and a synchronized output
is required, connect the reference signal to the REF. LOOP BNC. The reference signal
may be a Black Burst or a standard composite signal.

WARNING

If it is not used, terminate the free REF. LOOP BNC with a 75Ω termination

3.5 With a suitable VFM601i type instrument, monitor the output signal of the OUTPUTS
SDI1 and SDI2 BNC and check that the characteristics of the eye, jitter, amplitude and
rise time comply with ITU-R601 requirements, namely:

a) Eye : clearly defined
b) Jitter : less than 500 psec
c) Amplitude :800mV ± 10%
d) Rise and fall time: ≤ 1.2 nsec

If the eye is not clearly delimited or jitter is >500 psec

Check that the source has a standard PAL or NTSC signal

3.6 Connect the SDI destinations to OUTPUTS SDI1 and SDI2 BNC with coax cable
RG59B/U

WARNING
The drive capacity of the CONVI104 makes it possible to connect destinations at up to
200mt.
The destinations must have an input with a good Ret. Loss (min. 16dB at 270MHz) and
must presents an input signal compensation and reclock circuit.
The Elpro SD104 product, the SDI 1X6 signal distributor, f.i. has these characteristics.

6.0 NOTE

This product is guaranteed for 2 years from the date of purchase.

If the fault in the product is due to improper use or operations

carried out by third parties, the warranty is forfeited.

During the warranty period, Elpro will repair the faulty units free of charge.
The faulty units must be sent CARRIAGE FREE to the Elpro offices in Turin with a regular
accompanying note.
The units repaired will be returned CARRIAGE FORWARD to the addressee.
Outside the warranty period, Elpro will repair the faulty units EX its Turin offices, charging
the cost of the repair to the customer.
