TEMPERATURE SENSOR INSTRUCTIONS

The ELK Temperature Sensor(ELK-MT100) allows the ELK Magic Module(ELK-MM443) programmable
controller to monitor ambient temperatures and control functions through programming. The Sensor can
be remotely located in the area where temperature measurement is desired. The Sensor connects via a
4 conductor cable to the terminals of either an ELK Clock/Calendar Module(ELK-MC100) or the supplied
Interface board. This board is plugged onto the Magic Module Accessory Connector(J1) as shown in
figure1.

Note: Keep the cable length to a minimum (less than 20 feet) and away from transient sources such
as AC Power Lines, Phone lines, etc. The Sensor has limited transient input protection. Do not mount
in a location that may be exposed to moisture. UNIT IS NOT WATERPROOF.

Installation

1. The Temperature Sensor (ELK-MT100) includes a small interface board which plugs into the white 5-

pin Accessory Connector (J1) on the Magic Module. However, if a Clock/Calendar Module (ELK-

MC100) is already installed, the Sensor may be connected directly to it, without the need for the

interface board. In this case, proceed to Step 2. Insert the flanged end of the supplied nylon standoffs

into the holes opposite the terminal strip and on the bottom side of the Interface board. Plug this circuit

board into the white 5-pin Accessory Connector (J1) on the Magic Module. Snap in the standoffs to

secure the board to the Magic Module.

2. Remove the Sensor's plastic cover. Use double sided tape or screws (screws not supplied) to mount

the base in a dry location where the temperature measurements will be taken. The prefered mounting

direction is shown in figure 1. The Sensor can be located up to 20 feet from the Magic Module.

3. Run a 4 conductor (24 AWG MIN) cable from the Sensor to the terminals of either the Clock/Calendar

module or to the Interface board. Use the nylon cable tie to secure the cable into the Sensor module.

Connect DATA to DATA, CLK to CLK, +5V to +5V, and NEG to NEG. Replace the cover.

4. Before use, the Magic Module must be programmed to read the temperature from the Sensor. Refer

to the Magic Module Development Kit for programming instructions.
