Electro-Voice PRECISION User Manual

Electro-Voice®is a leading professional audio company and has over 75 years of experience in the design and manufacture of loudspeakers and microphones. But many are not aware that Electro-Voice
®
has also more than 50 years of expertise in the designing and building high performance professional power amplifiers as well. Over the years, an unwavering commitment to be the
benchmark in professional amplifier design has made Electro-Voice
®
the “gold standard” of amplification for stadiums, arenas, theatres, cinemas, discotheques and clubs all around the globe. Due to their sonic purity and extreme reliability, EV amplifiers have become established in top concert sound and professional installation projects worldwide.
ELECTRO-VOICE®–
WORLD-CLASS POWER AMPLIFIERS
For more than 10 years, EV’s Precision Series Linear Amplifiers including the flagship P3000, have proven themselves with their outstanding audio performance and reliability in many demanding audio applications. In this tradition we are introducing the new Precision Series Compact amplifiers, which offer our proven Precision Series
performance and reliability in a new compact, lightweight format. This is made possible by incorporating a highly efficient Class-H design, which results in substantially less heat being generated. This allows the overall size of the amplifier to be reduced substantially without sacrificing performance or reliability.
PRECISION SERIES COMPACT AMPLIFIERS -
HI-EFFICIENCY IN A LIGHT & COMPACT FORMAT
In EV’s Class H design, rather than supplying the voltage for the maximum output power permanently, the permanent voltage rail is designed to cover the average music signal. If dynamic peaks require a higher output voltage, the voltage rail is switched to the maximum. This process saves nearly 50% of the power consumption in a conventional design and results in a dramatic reduction in heat output. The real test in a successful Class-H design is to
make the voltage switching totally transparent to the user. This is where EV’s amplifier engineering excellence makes the difference over other so-called “Class-H” designs. The audio performance of the Precision Series Compact amplifiers speaks for itself. They truly set the new standard in Class-H amplifiers and meet the expectations we set the original Precision series models.
HOW IT WORKS - INNOVATIVE ENGINEERING
UNIQUE PERFORMANCE - UNMATCHED RELIABILITY
• Four models ranging from 2 x 600 W to 2 x 1600 W
• Legendary EV’s Precision Series sound
• 30% Dynamic Headroom
• Class H-Design for less heat dissipation
• Very light and compact format
• High precision detent front controls
• Dynamic audio limiter
• Robust construction & reliable design, made in Germany
• Unique protection package including Back-EMF
protection
A conventional amplifier design has nearly double the power consumption and requires double the power dissipation over EV’s Class-H Design of equivalent output power. The Precision Series Compact amplifier runs much cooler even under adverse conditions.
The THD of the amplifier is limited to a maximum of 1% for signals up to +21dBu. Even if overdriven, the amplifier will not create any objectionable “clipping signal effects” that are so fatal for speaker components.

The Flagship of the Precision Series Compact amplifiers. It’s the first Precision Series amplifier utilizing a switch-mode power supply, but also the first switch-mode amplifier with EV’s Precision Series sound. With up to 2 x 1600 watts into 2 Ohms and 2 x 1100 watts into 4 Ohms it is not only the most power-
ful in line, but also the lightest model with only 8,15 kg (17.96 lbs). The CP3000S is state-of-the art for all kinds applications. It’s specifically designed to allow for longterm driving of low loads with subwoofers without stress. It’s reliability coupled with it’s pleasing, rich sound makes it the first choice for all mid and hi speaker cabinets.
With up to 2 x 1100 watts into 2 Ohms and 2 x 800 watts into 4 Ohms the CP2200 is not only a perfect complement to many fullrange speaker cabinets, but also mid- and hi-
frequency components in larger concert-sound systems. The CP2200 utilizes a conventional transformer power supply, but still weights only 16 kilogramms (35.2 lbs).
Supplies up to 2 x 900 watts into 2 Ohms and 2 x 600 watts into 4 Ohms. Dedicated for smaller size full range speaker systems and
hi-frequency components in multiway systems. The CP1800 utilizes a conventional transformer power supply.
With up to 2 x 600 watts into 2 Ohms and 2 x 400 watts into 4 Ohms dedicated for small fullrange cabinets and individual hi-frequency
components in multiway systems. The CP1200 utilizes a conventional transformer power supply.
