Cleaning the Mouse
If the product body becomes dirty, wipe it with a soft, dry cloth.
Use of a v olatile liquid (paint thinne r, benzen e, alco hol, e tc.) may affec t the materi al
quality and colour of the product.

* Be careful not to stare directly into the light from the sensor, as this may damage your eyes.

Safety Precautions
To prevent injury, product damage and re, be sure to read the instructions described below.

Thank you for purchasing the ELECOM M-EGUR Series EGG optical mouse.
This manual describes the operating instructions and safety precautions for using the
M-EGUR Series. Ensure that you have read this manual before using the product. After
reading this manual, store it somewhere safe for future reference.
* Except in certain cases, the M-EGUR Series is referred to as “this product” in this manual.
Connecting the Mouse
Insert the USB connector of the mouse into a USB port on your PC.
Any USB port may be used.
y
A USB port via a USB h ub may also be used. Note that t here are cases in wh ich thi s
y
product will not operate depending on the power supply capacity of the USB hub.
To use the mouse with Windows
y
®
2000, leave the currently-used mouse connected to
your PC. During the Windows standard mouse driver installation step described later,
mouse operation may be required.
If the currently-connected mouse uses the manufacturer’s original driver or setup utility,
y
uninstall the driver or utility software in advance. If driver soft ware for another product
has been instal led, this produ ct m ay n ot o perate norm ally. For the u ninsta llatio n
procedure, refer to the operation manual for the currently-used mouse.
The PC operating procedure described below varies depending on which OS is used.
Windows Vista

The Windows standard mouse driver will be automatically installed.•
Proceed to the step of “Using the Mouse” .
Windows

2000
If the “Found New Hardware Wizard” screen is not displayed, the Windows standard •
mouse driver will be automatically installed.
Proceed to the step of “Using the Mouse” .
If the “Found New Hardware Wizard” screen is displayed, you must manually install the •
Windows standard mouse driver.
Proceed to the step of “Installing the Windows Standard Mouse Driver” (p. 6).
Disconnecting the mouse
This product is compatible with hot plug. The mouse can be disconnected even while Windows® is
running.
If the mouse connection and disconnection are repeated several times while Windows®
is running, the mouse operation may become unstable. In this case, restart the Windows
®
OS.
Installing the Windows Standard Mouse Driver (for Windows®
2000 only)
In Windows® 2000, a wizard screen may be displayed after connection of the USB connector.
If a wizard screen is displayed, install the Windows standard mouse driver according to the descr iption
for each OS below:
Keyboard operation
When Windows
®
2000 is used, mouse ope ration may be require d during installation of
the Windows standard mouse driver. If no mouse or touch pad is provided for your PC,
operate the keyboard according to the following description:
: Used to move the cursor between items or buttons.
/ : Used to move the cursor between options, if options are provided for an item.

: Every time you press this key, a checkbox is turned on/o.

If the “Found New Hardware Wizard” Screen is Displayed in Windows®
2000
After connection of the USB connector, Windows® 2000 may
display the “Found New Hardware Wizard” screen depending
on the operating environment of your PC.
In this case, click on
and install the Windows standard
mouse driver by following the displayed message.
If the “Found New Hardware Wizard” screen is not displayed, manual installation is not
y
required.
If the “Locate Driver Files” screen appears in the middle of the installation procedure,
y
turn o all checkboxes for “Optional search locations” and proceed to the next step.
Make sure that each checkbox is off (o)
After installation of the Windows standard mouse driver is completed, proceed to the step of
“Using the Mouse” described below.
Using the Mouse
Checking the Wheel Operation
After the Windows® standard mouse driver is installed successfully, you can move the cursor with
the mouse and use the mouse right/left buttons.
In this example, check if the mouse wheel operates normally using the Windows
®
Notepad
application.
Click on the [start] button and click on [All Programs] – [Accessories] – [Notepad].
The “Notepad” application opens.
Set the height of the Notepad screen so as to display about 10 lines.Enter a character and
begin on a new line repeatedly.
* In the following example, numbers 0 to 9 are each entered on a new line in sequence.
When the number of lines or characters that
can be displayed on the screen is exceeded, the
scroll bar appears.
Turn the mouse wheel forward and backward.
If the screen scrolls up/down according to the ac tion
of your nger, the wheel operation is normal.
For some applications that do not support the wheel function, the wheel may not work even if the
wheel is operated.

Troubleshooting
When the Mouse does not Operate Normally:
The mouse pointer does not move on the screen even when the
mouse is moved or the mouse pointer movement is unstable.
The light reectivity on the surface on which the mouse is being operated may not be suitable
Î
for the optical mouse.
When the mouse is connected to a USB port, it may be registered as an “unknown device”
Î
in Windows® because the Windows standard mouse driver has not been installed normally.
Typically, this product is registered as a “USB human interface device” when it is connected to
a USB port. If it is registered as an “unknown device”, delete the “unknown device” from Device
Manager according to the procedure below (“Deleting an Unknown Device”) and then conduct
the installation procedure again from the step of “Connecting the Mouse” (p.5).
The mouse driver may conict with another driver for the notebook PC touch pad and so on.

To use this product normally, it is necessary to uninstall the other driver (touchpad driver,
etc.). However, once the driver is uninstalled, the touchpad does not work and the functions
dedicated to the touchpad are disabled. For details, contact the PC manufacturer.
The mouse cursor moves but the wheel does not work.
With some applications that do not suppor t the wheel function, the wheel may not work even
Î
if the wheel is operated.
When the mouse is connected, the optical sensor emits light even
after the PC power switch is turned o.
Depending on the PC specications, the optical sensor may emit light while the standby power
Î
is supplied, even after the PC power switch is turned o. This condition is not an error with the
mouse because it is attributable to the PC specications. In this case, disconnect the mouse
from the PC or disconnect th e PC powe r supply plug from the outlet. For the procedure fo r
stopping the standby power supply to the mouse without disconnecting the PC power supply
plug from the outlet, contact the PC manufacturer. (Some PC models cannot stop the standby
power supply because of the PC specications.)
Deleting an Unknown Device
If this product is registered as an “unknown device” because of improper installation of the
Windows standard mouse driver, delete the “unknown device” from Device Manager according
to the procedu re below and then conduct the i nstallation proced ure aga in from the step o f
“Connecting the Mouse” .
If sev eral “unkn own dev ices” have been registere d, ide ntify w hich o f the “unknown
y
devices” corresponds to the information recognised for this product before deleting the
unknown devices. Disconnect this product from the PC to see which device information
for “un known dev ices” disapp ears. The devi ce t hat disap pears is the info rmati on
recognised for this product.
If the “unknown devices” remain even after the driver is uninstalled according to the
y
procedure below, there may be a problem with the PC. Contact the PC manufacturer for
detailed information.
With the mouse connected to the PC, delete the “unknown device” according to the procedure
below.
