Edwards Audio MC2 User Manual

User manual MC2
Thank you for purchasing an Edwards audio phono stage, with care over the correct installation we are sure that it will give many years of pleasure.
CONNECTIONS
The main MC2 should be placed on a separate shelf next to or near your Turntable. Connect your turntables arm leads to the sockets marked ‘input’ observing Red for RIGHT and White/Black for LEFT. If you have an additional Earth or Ground cable attach this to the GND terminal provided above the input sockets. Depending on your systems grounding arrangements it may or may not be necessary to connect this, so if you can hear a hum through your speakers try connecting/disconnecting this wire. Next connect an additional pair of high quality RCA Phono cables (not supplied) between the output sockets and any available LINE input on your amplifier, this is usually marked AUX. Next the Power supply should be plugged in to any available AC outlet near to your system then plug the Mini Din into the socket marked DC on the rear of the MC2. Please observe the polarity and do not force the plug into the socket else damage may occur. To power ‘ON’ switch on the AC power supply at the wall, there is no power switch on the phono stage itself.
LISTENING
At this point it may be a good idea to try playing a record by selecting Aux on your amplifier (or whatever input you used to plug the MC2 into) and advancing the volume control slowly, hopefully music will be heard. Assuming all is well, lift the needle from the groove and check that there are no hums or buzzes, if there are, experiment
with the position of the MC2 and or the ground connection, it may well be that the quietest position is not on a shelf at all. There are no hard and fast rules as to where to best position the MC2, basically the quieter it is the better it will sound, all you should hear is a feint hiss, if this is on the floor behind your equipment rack the so be it. Don’t be worried about where it is, it’s position and orientation will have no detrimental effect on the MC2’s function or reliability.
FRONT PANEL LED
You can turn off the front panel LED indicator, should you desire by removing the Blue jumper (J1 on diagram 2) from the front of the PCB, This can be accessed by removing the 4 screws on the rear panel marked in red on diagram 1. and sliding the PCB out backwards, see diagram 1.
MM – OPERATION
The factory default is the MC setting but if you wish to use this with an MM or HOMC cartridge this can be set by moving the 4 yellow jumpers marked J3,J4,J5,J6 in diagram 2 to their alternate positions. These jumpers can be accessed by removing the four screws on the rear panel marked in red on diagram 1, (excluding the GND terminal) and sliding the PCB out backwards. There are no user serviceable parts inside, so please do not be tempted to play or modify any part of the MC2, this will invalidate your guarantee.

WARP FILTER
There is a warp filter function which operates at a very low frequency of around 7Hz. This frequency was chosen as it is around the common arm/ cartridge resonant frequency and helps to remove any excessive cone movements in your speakers due to this as you play a record. It can be disabled by moving 2 Green jumpers J14 & J15 on diagram 2 to the off positions
