Odyssey 200 allows you to carry a library of your
favorite music wherever you go.
WHAT IS MP3?MP3 stands for MPEG-1 or MPEG-2, layer 3. MP3
files can be compressed up to 1/20th of the size of
original Wave files.
You can download MP3 files from the Internet or
create them from your personal music CDs by
using the MusicMatch software. Then you download the MP3 files to your player for CD quality
sound without the need for bulky cassette tapes or
CDs.

DOCUMENT CONVENTIONS
To use the Odyssey 200 and related software, you
must have at least basic skills in using the Windows
or Mac operating system. This document uses conventions described below.
A note symbol indicates a useful tip.
A caution symbol indicates important information
to prevent damage to your player or avoid inconvenient situations.
BoldA word or phrase in bold indicates a menu or but-
ton selection in the software window or on the
player. For example: Click the OK button.
ItalicsA phrase in italics typically indicates a cross-refer-
ence to a section in the User’s Guide. In the PDF
version of the documentation available from the
Odyssey Manager Help menu, you can click on
the phrase to jump to the content.
>This character is used to describe menu /submenu
selections. For example, select the File > New
menu.
This section includes illustrations of the player from
various perspectives and identifies features and
controls.

The Joystick performs a variety of functions
depending on which mode the player is in. For
example, press and release the Joystick to power
the player on and off.
When you press and release the button the
Odyssey 200 powers on and displays the initial,
Play Mode on the LCD.
The player has four primary Modes described on
page 12, however, each mode includes some of the
icons illustrated below:

EQUALIZER
OPTIONS
The Odyssey 200 equalizer adjusts bass or treble to
one of five options to enhance the sound.
This option is adjusted in Play Mode or Record
Mode only, by pressing the EQ button until the
LCD shows the setting you want. The player automatically returns to the previous display after each
EQ button press and displays an icon letter indicating the current equalizer setting. The five options
are:

Flat is an equal balance of bass and treble.
Suitable for Pop music.
Suitable for Rock music.
Suitable for Classical music.
X-Bass provides more bass.
BATTERY ICONIndicates the remaining battery power.
An empty battery icon indicates that only
about three minutes of power remains.

RECORD ICONIndicates the player is in Record Mode. For more
information, see Overview of Player Modes on
page 12 or details in Record Mode on page 44.
REPEAT OPTIONSIndicates one of five repeat options for playing
tracks. This option is adjusted in Play Mode or
Record Mode only. Press the REP button to one of
the following options:
Plays the first 10 seconds of each track.
Plays all tracks, sequentially from the start to the
end of each track.
Plays all stored tracks continuously. That is, after
the player plays the last track, it cycles back to the
first track.
Repeats only the currently selected track.
Shuffle plays tracks in a random order.
OVERVIEWOF PLAYER MODES
Each time you press the Mode button on the right
side of the player, the LCD shows the next mode
cycling through a total of four:
Each mode is briefly described below, for detailed
information about a particular mode, see the provided page reference.
Play Mode is the initial mode when you first turn
on the player. This mode is used to display music
and voice tracks; three tracks on each display. Use
the Joystick to navigate and select a track to play.

Radio Mode is used to listen to a FM radio station. This mode includes features to scan and seek
stations as well as set up to 20 favorite channels.
For more information, see Radio Mode on page 42.
Record Mode is used to create a voice recording
by speaking into the internal microphone.
When there are no voice recordings on the player,
“NO TRACK” shows on the LCD. However, once
you create voice recordings, the tracks are listed in
this mode.

There are two ways to remove files from your
player: by using the Odyssey Manager software
installed on your PC or by using the player’s Erase Mode.
When you first enter the player’s Erase Mode, the
LCD shows as illustrated, quickly followed by two
menu choices: ERASE ALL and ERASE FILE.
For more information, see Erase Files from Player on page 36.
You can quickly cancel Erase Mode by pressing the
Mode button.
Before you can use your Odyssey 200 you must
install the e.Digital Odyssey Manager software and
MusicMatch software.
MusicMatch is third-party software that you can use
on your PC to rip (create) MP3 files from a music
CD. The Odyssey Manager software provides the
ability to manage and transfer files between your
PC and player.
Install the Odyssey Manager software before
connecting your player to the USB cable and your
PC, otherwise, your PC will have problems
recognizing the USB driver for your Odyssey 200.
