Thank you for purchasing the EdgeMarc 4603. This guide provides instructions for installing the EdgeMarc 4603 and configuring basic software settings. It is intended for network installers, network operators, and security officers.

Security
A stateful packet inspection firewall is used in combination with a voice over
IP (VoIP) application layer gateway to provide comprehensive “media­aware” security. The EdgeMarc 4603 also supports IPSec for secure site-to-
site networking.
VoIP-aware firewall dynamically provisions and closes UDP ports
used for VoIP calls
IPSec: 3DES, SHA-1 NAT/PAT server protects and hides enterprise LAN topology
Overview
EdgeMarc Enterprise Session Border Controllers (ESBC) are used to connect enterprises to cloud-based services such as SIP trunking and hosted PBX. They are also used by the enterprise for business-to-business video conferencing and branch office connectivity. Available for small to large enterprise environments, all EdgeMarc products provide a VoIP and video-aware NAT/Firewall, protocol harmonization for interoperability of VoIP and video devices, active VoIP line testing, call quality monitoring, survivability, QoS and more.
The EdgeMarc ESBCs can be deployed initially as low-cost WAN access routers and then licensed through software for more advanced VoIP features and increased call performance. The EdgeMarc is the ideal platform for service providers and enterprise organizations offering DIA, hosted VoIP and managed security services or enterprises migrating to converged voice and data networks.

EdgeMarc 4603 Enterprise Session Border Controller
The EdgeMarc 4603 combines a 24 FXS port Integrated Access Device (IAD) and multiple voice and data features into a single, easy-to-use Enterprise Session Border Controller. It provides up to four (4) integrated T1 Channel Service Units (CSU)/Data Service Units (DSU) for medium and large office connectivity.
Service providers and enterprise organizations use the EdgeMarc 4603 to connect IP, TDM and analog-based PBXs to SIP trunking services. The EdgeMarc 4603 automatically manipulates SIP messages and features advanced inspection capabilities that enable it to be deployed in many different environments with a wide range of PBXs and SIP trunking services. It is the ideal platform for service providers and enterprise organizations for use in SIP trunking, hosted VoIP and other converged services.

VoIP
The EdgeMarc 4603 resolves NAT/FW traversal problems for SIP and H.323 traffic. It allows a single public IP address to be used for multiple VoIP clients. VoIP survivability enables continuous service during WAN link failures. Survivability can use either the FXO ports on the EdgeMarc 4603 or an external gateway.
Quality of Service
The EdgeMarc 4603 maximizes WAN link utilization while optimizing voice quality using prioritization and shaping. Quality of Service features include:
Class based queuing/prioritization Diffserv marking and policing Traffic shaping VoIP call admission control prevents oversubscription of priority

Passive Call Quality Monitoring
The EdgeMarc 4603 provides passive call quality monitoring statistics for each VoIP call to enforce SLAs and resolve networking problems that negatively affect call quality. The call quality monitoring features:
Per call statistics that include mean opinion score (average and
minimum), jitter, latency, and packet loss.
Alarms for poor MOS scores. Active call count indicators.
Analog Voice
The EdgeMarc 4603 features 24 FXS ports for connecting analog and key system phones to the network, and 2 FXO ports to connect to the PSTN for failover.

Power switch is off (or no power from the AC outlet).

The unit could not boot up because of self-test failure.
Green
Self-test passed.

Erase Button
If pressed twice in quick succession, only the CLI password will be changed back to its original password.
If pressed three times in quick succession, the EdgeMarc will revert back to the factory default settings. This will reset all passwords and erase all prior configurations. The default LAN address will be set to 192.168.1.1.
Caution
Using the Erase button as outlined above means any configuration made to the EdgeMarc 4603 will be lost. Erasing the configuration means that IP phones installed behind the EdgeMarc 4603 will not work and Internet connectivity or network access for PCs will be down until the system is reconfigured.

10/100 Ethernet LAN Ports
Four (4) Local Area Network (LAN) ports to connect the IP phones or an Ethernet switch. Unit can also be configured through any of these ports using the web interface.

10/100 Ethernet WAN Port
Can be used as an alternative or in addition to the T1/E1 WAN ports. This port is typically used when connecting the EdgeMarc 4603 to an existing WAN router, cable or xDSL modem.

USB Ports
2 (Version 2.0) x USB ports can be used for EVDO WAN connections and maintenance functions.
G
Management Console Port
This port is used to establish a local console session with the EdgeMarc 4603 using a VT100 terminal or emulation program. The cable required is a Male to Female straight-through DB-9 cable. The serial port uses a baud rate of 9600, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit and no parity.
This port is used for debug or local diagnostic purposes only. Primary configuration of the EdgeMarc 4603 is performed from a web browser as covered in Edgewater Networks VoIP Operating System (VOS) for EdgeMarc User Manual.
H
V.90 Dial-In Console
Used to establish a local console session with the EdgeMarc 4603 using a PTSN connection. The connection is established by calling into the EdgeMarc 4603 from a dial-up modem. The web-interface is not available using this option.
Note: The EdgeMarc 4603 requires a V.90 RJ-11 cable. For further instruction on connecting the device, consult the Edgewater Networks VoIP Operating System (VOS) for EdgeMarc User Manual.

Installation
Observe the following guidelines when installing the EdgeMarc 4603:
Always verify that the AC cord is disconnected from a power source prior to
installation.
Do not stack multiple units on top of each other as this can cause overheating. Ensure that the installation site has adequate air circulation and meets the
minimum operating conditions for the system as specified in the Specifications section of this document.
Required Tools, Materials, and Information

TIA/EIA 568B standard Ethernet cables to connect the LAN ports to LAN
switches or to individual IP phones. They can also be used to connect the Ethernet WAN port to a WAN router, a cable modem or a DSL Modem, or to connect a T1/E1 port to a WAN or PRI connection.
Philips screwdriver (if the unit will be mounted in a rack). Male 50-pin Amphenol type connector (90 degree or 180 degree) to connect to
the FXS Phone ports. Not included.
If a T1/E1 port will be used to connect to WAN, you will need:
T1/E1 cable to connect the T1/E1 port to a T1/E1 line T1/E1 frame format Layer 2 protocol such as PPP, Frame Relay/DLCIs, HDLC, etc.
Warning
To reduce the risk of fire, use only 26 AWG or larger wire (e.g. 24, 22, 20, etc.) to connect the T1 port on your unit to an RJ-45 jack.
Important!
If you will be using the V.90 port to connect to the device, you must supply your own V.90 connection cable as it is not included with this device. For further instruction on connecting the device using the V.90 port, consult the Edgewater Networks VoIP Operating System (VOS) for EdgeMarc User Manual.
