Litre V8s.
INSTALLATION
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.
2. Loosen both of the air inlet tube clamps located on the throttle body and air cleaner,
carefully remove the air inlet tube from the vehicle. (See Photo #1).
3. Carefully disconnect the throttle position sensor and idle speed control solenoid
connectors from the throttle body and disconnect the EGR position sensor connector
from the EGR valve. (See Photo #2).
4. Carefully disconnect the EGR vacuum line from the EGR valve. Loosen the two hose
clamps located on the EGR spacer that hold the throttle body coolant hoses and
remove hoses. (See Photo #3). Disconnect throttle linkage.
CAUTION !
Some coolant may discharge from the throttle
body coolant hoses when removed.
5. Remove the four (4) throttle body attaching nuts and carefully remove the throttle
body and EGR spacer assembly from the upper intake manifold studs. (See Photo #4).
6. For maximum performance with the larger throttle bodies, use the matching size EGR
spacer and enlarge upper manifold mouth accordingly. Most aftermarket intake
manifolds including Edelbrock's part #3821 are already sized to 70mm.
7. Remove the idle speed solenoid and install on the new throttle body. (Use supplied
idle solenoid gasket). Transfer EGR valve to new EGR plate. (Use supplied gasket).
8. Position the following onto the intake manifold studs in order of listing (See Photo #5).
a. EGR spacer gasket.
b. EGR spacer.
c. Throttle body gasket (see Figure 1 for gasket positioning).
d. Throttle body. Torque throttle body attaching nuts to 12-18 ft.-lbs.
9. Connect the throttle position sensor, EGR position sensor and the idle speed control
solenoid. Connect the throttle body coolant hoses and tighten securely. Connect the
throttle linkage.

10. Apply a small amount silicone based lubricant or brake assembly lube to the lip of the
rubber inlet tube and push onto the throttle body. Tighten the clamps firmly. Connect
battery negative terminal.
11. The Idle speed and TPS are set to the factory settings . If you have modified your
engine, additional adjustments may be required. Set the idle speed by using the
following sequence: (about 625 Rpm)
a. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
b. Turn the throttle plate hard stop screw control 5 turns clockwise from the fully
closed position.

c. Disconnect the idle speed control solenoid connector.
d. Run the engine until it is at operating temperature.
e. Turn the throttle plate hard stop screw counter clockwise until the lowest
factory idle speed setting (625 rpm) is obtained. Increased idle speed may be
required if the engine has been modified.
f. Turn the engine off and reconnect the idle speed control connector.
12. CHECK THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR VOLTAGE: Turn the ignition switch to
the “ON” position but do not start the engine. Using a digital volt/ohmmeter, measure
the voltage between the Dark Green/Light Green wire and the Black wire. Be sure the
voltage is between 0.8v and 1.0v. This voltage can be adjusted by loosening the two
screws and slightly rotating the throttle position sensor. If necessary, elongate the
mounting holes on the throttle position sensor to obtain this specification. (See Photo
#6).
Note: For optimum performance on 1986-1988 vehicles equipped with speed-
density system, we strongly recommend mass-airflow conversion. Kits
are available from Ford performance parts and other aftermarket outfits.
