PLEASE complete and mail your warranty card. Be sure to write the model number of this product in the "Part #____" space. THANK YOU. DESCRIPTION: The Edelbrock Performer 3-piece intake manifolds are designed for street high performance use with Edelbrock Performer or
Performer RPM heads only. Some manifolds are for grommet-mount carburetors, and others fit flange-mount carbs (see chart on next page). These intake manifolds are designed to make excellent power increases in the stock rpm range of the Harley-Davidson®Big Twin®engine (idle to 6000 rpm). These manifolds and heads feature a rectangular shaped intake port for a noticeable increase in air flow. This .125" raised rectangular intake port also helps to increase the velocity of the incoming air for more power. These intake manifolds can only be used on Edelbrock heads because of the unique port shape. Performer manifolds fit 1984 and later Evolution®"Big Twin" motors with Edelbrock Performer or Performer RPM heads, and 1999 and later Twin Cam 88 motors with Edelbrock Performer RPM heads.
When used with Performer cylinder heads, Performer intake manifolds are street legal in all 50 states. (C.A.R.B. E.O. Call Edelbrock for detailed information).
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
MANIFOLD INSTALLATION
NOTE: Manifold installation will usually be performed along with installation of Edelbrock cylinder heads. Refer to cylinder head instructions for step-by-step procedures, if necessary. These instructions cover only the procedures that apply to Edelbrock 3piece intake manifolds.
1. Inspect manifold for any nicks or other damage on the sealing surfaces.
2. On Twin Cam 88 motors, transfer the MAP sensor from the stock manifold, lubricate the seal with lightweight oil and secure with the 8-32X1/4 socket head cap screw provided in kit
3. Note that flanges are marked front and rear. Place flanges on manifold with the 30° tapered side facing out (toward the head) and the slotted bolt holes to the rear of the manifold.
4. Lubricate grommets with a lightweight oil such as fork oil or brake assembly lube (not brake fluid) Note that the grommets are rectangular, and will only fit on manifold one way. Push grommets onto manifold as far as they will go.
5. Place manifold in position on cylinder heads, being careful not to pinch or fold-over grommet.
6. Start all four manifold bolts and washers by hand, then tighten each bolt gradually, moving from bolt-to-bolt in small steps. There is no room for a torque wrench, but final torque should be very firm (18-23 ft./lbs.). If desired, you may use a nonpermanent locking compound, such as green Locktite®, on bolt threads.
NOTE: You must use the AN washers supplied on the manifold bolts to prevent over-stressing and cracking the flanges.
CARBURETOR MOUNTING
Because the 3-piece manifold “floats” between the two cylinder heads, it is very important that the carburetor is properly supported to prevent manifold droop and resultant leakage at the grommets. Be sure that the air cleaner backing plate is secured or that the necessary air cleaner support brackets are used.
REPLACEMENT PARTS
Replacement grommets and flanges are available through your local motorcycle shop.
