INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1955-1957 Chevrolet Bel Air Trunk Hinges
HARD TOP ONLY (No Post)
1. Remove the trunk lid by removing the four bolts.
2. Remove the trunk hinge springs. Some cars will have a cover over the driver side spring
that will need to be removed. Two screws hold it in place. Use vise grips or a short pipe to lift the spring up and slide it towards the center of the car until the spring is free.
out of the way. Push the pin towards the center of the car, and then use pliers to pull it out the rest of the way. Now the hinge can be removed.
4. Drill a 5/16” hole in the hinge bracket ¾” from the back of the bracket and 1 ¾” down
from the package tray. See picture below.
5. Install the struts on the hinges with the rod end mounted to the hinge. Install a ball stud
in the other end. Now install safety clips on all ball studs. Ball studs should point in opposite directions and can be turned by hand. Place two washers on the non mounted ball stud. See picture below.
6. With the struts facing the center of the car, slide the hinge into the pocket strut first. Push
ball stud through the 5/16” hole, and secure with a washer and nut. Install the new hinge
pins and bend the tab back down.
7. Reinstall and align the trunk lid using your new hardware.
