Important notice
Area of applicability
Danger!
Danger of electric shock or burns Any non-compliance with these instructions will lead to death, bodily injury or significant material damage.
Wear the prescribed protective clothing. Observe the general set-up and safety regulations for working on high-voltage systems (e.g. DIN, VDE) as well as the applicable national or international regulations. Only staff with the corresponding qualifications may implement installation and maintenance work on this instrument. Before installing the instrument, check it for possible damage. A damaged instrument must neither be installed nor commissioned. Before carrying out any installation, maintenance or assembly work, both the supply voltage as well as the measuring voltage on the instrument are to be switched off, and the voltage supply to the system in which the econ sens3 is installed is to be interrupted. Before connecting the instrument, it is to be ensured that the local network conditions correspond to the information provided on the name plate. Supply voltage: Secure the supply voltage of the instrument with an approved 10A safety device, tripping characteristic C, at all times. Voltage measurement inputs: The instrument is to be secured by an admissible 10A back-up fuse or an admissible 10 A circuit breaker. Separator: A suitable separator is to be installed upstream in order to disconnect the current and voltage supply to the instrument! The separator is to be installed close to the instrument, must be easily accessible by the user and be marked as separator for the instrument. Current measurement inputs: Current measurement with the instrument is only possible with the Rogowski coils included in the scope of delivery. These must not be installed on blank copper busbars but on insulated busbars or cables only.
Assembly
Caution!
Avoid condensation.
Sudden temperature fluctuations can cause condensation. Condensation can impair the function of the instrument. Store the instrument at the installation site for at least 2 hours
before starting the assembly.

The econ sens3 multifunctional measuring instrument is exclusively intended for recording electrical values such as voltage, current, output, energy etc. in building installations and/or in distributing systems. The instrument is capable of 1-, 2-, or 3-phase measurements and can be used in two-wire, three-wire or four-wire TN, TT and IT networks.
Characteristics (partially optional): Completely parametrizable and readable for each web interface
Recording of more than 28 measuring parameters (current, voltage, effective power and reactive power, generated and consumed power, each per phase), Recording the measuring values on accessible mirco SD card, Harmonic measurement up to the 100th harmonic, (PRO version), recording of network events according to EN50160, e.g. voltage drops, frequency shifts, harmonics, flicker 4 multiple IO ports, configurable, digital input, 0 - 10 V input/output, 0 - 20 mA input/output), 100Mbit Ethernet interface (TPC Modbus TCP), Modbus interface (Modbus RTU). Supply possible via 230 VAC or 24 VDC
The econ sens3 multifunctional measuring instrument is intended for the stationary installation in the building installation, on TS35 top-hat rails in distributors and rail distributors within closed rooms. Vertical installation position according to figure 1 on page 3
Before its assembly, the instrument is to be checked for possible transportation damage.
Assembly of the instrument:
1.) Slide the instrument onto the top-hat rail with the upper retaining
collar
2.) Move the metal base bars downwards, against the spring force, by
means of a flat head screw driver.
3.) Move the instrument into a horizontal position.
4.) Let the instrument latch into the top-hat rail by releasing the metal
base bar.
Assembly of the coils:
Install the coils as displayed in figure 2 on page 3. Do not install or commission coils with damaged insulation.

Earthing/shielding of the data lines
Earthing of GND connection (network analysis)
The econ sens3 multifunctional measuring instrument is capable of 1-, 2-, or 3phase measurements and can be used in two-wire, three-wire or four-wire TN, TT and IT networks. The type of connection selected for the intended use is to be chosen by the user. Figure 3 on page 3 displays a typical connection example with the type of connection suitable for a 3-phase four-wire system. Other connection examples are provided in the manual of the econ sens 3.
Connecting the supply voltage:
All required information is provided in the Technical Data.
The shielding of the connection cables described here applies to all data interfaces of the econ sens3. These are:
- Modbus RTU interface
- Multiple IO ports
The date lines are to be attached to both cable ends extensively and with low impedance. The exposed shield of the data cable is to be attached to a suitable earthing point of the control cabinet, preferably by means of a shield bus, as displayed in figure 5 on page 3. Further information on the functional earthing of the device is provided in chapter 5.9 of the manual.
When using the network analysis function of the device, it is necessary to connect the secondary GND connection with the protective earth conductor at the “MODBUS” clamping point. This function-related earthing increases the measuring accuracy when recording specific events on the network.
Caution: Do not earth the GND connection of the Multi-IO clamping point. It is galvanically isolated from the GND of the MODBUS!!!
Requirements for commissioning
The instrument is mounted properly as described in chapter 5 of the manual. The instrument is connected in accordance with the possible connection types and taking into consideration the precautionary measures and technical parameters according to chapter 6 and 11. The Ethernet cable is connected.
Commissioning steps
1.) Checking the connections
Before activating the instrument, it is to be ensured that all cable connections to the econ sens3 have been produced as described in chapter 5 of the manual and that the connected voltage values of the inputs do not exceed the values indicated in the technical data
2) Applying the supply voltage
3) Applying the measuring voltage
4) Applying the current measurement
5) Parametrization of the instrument
6) Checking the measuring values for plausibility
The econ sens+ includes a small installation checking routine, called "Installation check". It is described in chapter 8 of the manual.
