it looks – a wizard bur sting forth from ethereal cave
and ready for the ambient batt le. You are the wizard
– or sorceress, if you prefer – and the cave is your
instrument’s signal, vast, expansive, and magical. Do
you go inside? Roll a D20 to proceed!
Once inside, a reection of light from an unk nown
source c atches your eye, an d you notice a biza rre sheen
on the wall s of the cave. You timidly inc h closer to the
walls of th e cave. Placing you r hand gently on th e cavern
wall, you feel the roc k move. The cave is alive! A larmed,
you emit a loud gasp, which reverberates throughout
the subterranean landscape. Upon further listening,
it appears as though the reverberations of your voice
are in fact a swarm of short digital delays which may be
used to cr eate wild and caver nous reverbs, or s cattered,
short, rhythmic delays with bizarre characteristics.
Take a moment to co nsider your Intel ligence and Wi sdom
scores, as well as your spell inve ntory before pro ceedin g
further. You have seven spells at your disposal…
Will you cast “Length,” which controls the dec ay length
of the rever b?
What about “Dif fuse,” whi ch adjusts the spre ad of
the reverb? With your wand (or just the k nob) turned
counterclockwise, the reverb is sharper with more
attack, resulting in a stuttering sputter of individual early
reect ions. Cloc kwise casts a washy, more ambient-
sounding hex.
Overw helmed by fear, you ha stily cast “ Dampen!” As y ou
shout th e incantati on, you notice t hat a counterc lockwis e
variati on of this spell results in bri ghter tones, while as
you rotate your wand clockwise; you hear darker tones
with a mellower top-end. It’s almost as if your magic
changes the hardn ess of the c avern walls, and thus the
tonal character istics of the rever b!
Elsewhere in your book of magic is “Drag,” which
separates the individual digital delay lines, literally
draggin g them through the very fabr ic of time and space
towards an unknown eve nt horizon from which they may
never return. Clockwise “Drag ” positions w ill gather the
delay lines close together for a more reverb-like ef fect.
Turn the “Dr ag” countercl ockwise, and the delay lin es will
begin to pull apart for a scattered ping- pong delay effect.

The Drag c an be put under voltage or expre ssion
contro l using the “EXP ” jack lo cated on the side and
operate s in 9 different modes which are selected by the
small “Mode” control. These modes are: Unquantized,
Unquantized with slew, Unquantized volt/octave,
Chromat ic scale, M ajor scale, Minor scale, Pentatonic
scale, Octaves & fths and Octaves. These modes
drastic ally change the way the Drag control functions,
especi ally whil e using an expression control or CV.
The “Reect” alters the depth of the cave, and with it
the regeneration of the reverb. This acts as a feedback
contro l and will self-osc illate if cast by a high-level
user. Turn clockwise fo r more wash and echoes,
counterclockwise for less.
Finally, the “Mix” alters the alchemical balance between
the input s ignal and the effect. The Afterneath does n ot
go fully wet but does lower the level of the input signal
as you raise this control to create the appearanc e of a
fully wet reverb.
The Afterneath features a completely analog dry signal
path, totally digital delay path, buffered bypass with
Flexi-Switch
bypass. Each and ever y Afterneath is built by a mix of
robots and human beans in the torch -lit cave community
of Akron, Ohio.
Modes
The Modes cont rol changes th e way the Drag cont rol
functions. The LED will change colors indicating which
mode you a re in.

Expression Jack
This is an expression pedal control jack for the Drag.
Any expression pedal will work with the After neath. Tip
is the wiper, Ring is 5v and S leeve is ground.
You can also use CV with this jack. CV op erates 0 -5v.
Flexi-Switch
This devic e features Flexi-Switch Technology! This
electr onic switching st yle allows you to simultaneously
use momentary and latching style switching.
The Afterneath uses electronic buffered bypass, it
require s power to pass signal a nd the buf fer is always
active. You may exper ience a pop the rst time the
After neath is switched on after power up.
Tails/No Tails Switching
The Aft erneath is facto ry set in “tails mode.” This means
that the we t signal will natur ally decay and sl owly fade to
silence after the effec t is switched off.
To deactivate this feature:
Follow the same steps to reactive tails mo de.

Technology
• For standard latching operation, tap the footswitc h
once to activate the effect and then tap again to
bypass.
• For momentary operation, hold the footswitch down
for as long as you’d like to use the effect. Once you
release the switch, the effect will be bypassed.
• Unplug the power cable fr om the power jack.
• Hold down the fo otswitch and in sert the powe r cable.
• The LED will ash 3 times. You can now release the
footswitch.
Power Requirements
This device takes a standard 9 volt DC power supply with
a 2.1mm negative center barrel. We always recommend
pedal-specic, transformer-isolated wall-wart power
supplies or multiple isolated-output supplies. Pedals
will make ex tra nois e if there is ripple o r unclean power.
Switching-t ype power supplies, daisy chains and nonpedal specic power supplies do not lter dirty power as
well and let through unwanted noise. DO NOT RUN AT

la bataille d’ambiance. Vous êtes le sorcier ou si vous

Une fois à l’intérieur, un reet de lumière provenant d’une
source inconnue attire votre attention et vou s remarquez
un éclat bizarre sur les murs de la grotte. Vous vous
rapprochez timidement des murs de la grotte. En plaçant
doucement votre main sur le mur de la caverne, vous
sentez la roc he bouger. La grotte est vivante ! Alarmé,
vous émettez un halètement bruyant, qui se rép ercute
à travers l’espace souterrain. En écoutant dava ntage, il
semble que les réverbérations de votre voix soient en
fait un es saim de c ourts délais numériques qui peuvent
être utilisés pour créer des réverbérations sauvages
et caverneuse s, ou des délais rythmiques dispersé et

Allez-vo us lancer «Length», qui contrôle la durée de
déclin de la réverbé ration?
Qu’en est-il de «Diffuse», qui ajuste la propagation de
la réverbération? Avec votre baguette (ou simplement le
bouton) tourné dans le sens antihoraire, la réverbérat ion
est plus nette avec plus d’attaqu e, ce qui ent raîne une
suite saccadée de ré exions précoc es individuelles.
Dans le sens des aiguilles d’une montre, il j ette un
sortilège dél avé, au son plus ambiant .
Accablé par la peur, vous lancez à la hâte «Dampen
!» Lorsque vous criez l’incantation, vous remarquez
qu’une vari ation dans le sens ant ihoraire de ce sor t
produit des tons plus clairs, alors qu e si vous tournez
votre baguette dans le sens hor aire; vous entendez de s
tons plus graves avec un haut de spectre plus doux.
C’est pre sque comme si votre m agie modiait la dureté
des parois de la caverne, et donc les caractér istiques
tonales d e la réverbération !
Ailleurs dans votre livre de magie se trouve «Drag», qui
sépare les lignes de retard numériques individuelles,
les faisant littéralement glisser à travers le tissu même
du temps et de l’espace vers un horizo n d’événements

! Le son de
inconnus d’où elles ne reviendront peut- être jamais. Les
positions de «Drag» tourné dans le sens des aiguilles
d’une montre rassembleront les lignes de retard
les unes c ontre les autres po ur un effet plus proc he
de la réverbé ration. Tournez le “Drag” dans le sens
antihor aire, et les lignes de retard co mmence ront à se
séparer p our un effet de délai p ing-pong dispersé.
La commande «Drag» peut être placée sous c ontrôle
de tension ou d ’expression à l’aide de la prise «EXP»
située sur le côté et fonctionne dans 9 modes di fférents
qui so nt sél ectionnés par le petit contrôle «Mode».
Ces modes sont : Non quantié, Non quantié avec
balayage, Volts/Octave non quantiés, gamme
chromatique, gamme majeure, gamme mineure, gamme
pentatonique, Octaves et Quintes et O ctaves. C es
modes ch angent radicale ment le fonctionnement de
la commande «Drag», en particulier lor s de l’utilisation
d’un contrôle d’expre ssion ou d’un CV.
«Reect» modie la profondeur de la grotte, et avec elle
la régénération de la réverbération. Cela agit comme un
contrôle de feedback et auto-oscillera automatiquement
s’il est lanc é par un utilisateur de haut niveau. Tournez
dans le sens horaire pour plus réverbe et d’échos, dans
le sens antihoraire pour moins.
Enn, la comman de «Mix» modi e l’équilibre alchimique
entre le signal d’entrée et l’effet. l’Afterneat h diminue le
niveau de signal direct de l’entrée lorsque vous poussez
la commande de mix au m aximum p our apparemment
obtenir un son de réver bération entièr ement traité.
L’After neath offr e un chemin de sig nal direct enti èrement
analogique, un chemin de retard totalement numérique,
un bypass buffer avec la technologie Flexi-Sw itch
une option «tails/no tails» (queues de réverbe /pas de
queues) sur le bypass. Chaque Afterneath est assemblé
parti ellement par des robots et par tiellement par des
humains dans les cavernes éclairées à la torche de la

Modes
La commande Modes change la façon dont la commande
Drag fonctionne. La LED changera de couleur indiquant
le mode d ans lequel vo us vous trouvez .
1. Non quantié : Réponse douce et non quantiée sur
la plage de fonctionnement
2. Non quantié avec Slew (balayage) : Un e réponse
douce et non quantiée sur toute la plage de
fonctionnement, mais avec un balayage musical
qui rappe lle la rotation du bouton varispeed sur
un délai de bande vintage britannique. Le «Drag»
a un retard sur la rotat ion du potentiomètre ou le
changement de cv, mais le rattrape rapidement.
3. Volt/Octave non quantié : Doux et non quantié,
mais calibré pour s’aligner sur la courbe 1v /
octave an de permet tre la modulation mélodique
de l’audio dans la mémoire tampon, ou p our
contrô ler la fréque nce d’auto-oscillat ion comme un
oscillateur contrôlé en te nsion.

Jack Expression
Il s’agit d’une entrée pour pédale d’expression pour le
contrôle de Drag. N’importe quelle pédale d’expression
foncti onnera avec l’Af terneath. La p ointe est le varia teur,
l’anneau est à 5v et le manchon est la masse.
Vous pouvez également utiliser un contrôle de tension
CV avec cette prise. l e CV fonctionne ent re 0- 5v.
Technologie Flexi-Switch
Cet appareil est doté de la technologie Flexi-Switch ! Ce
style d’interr upteur électronique vous permet d’utiliser
simultanément une commutation momentanée et une
commut ation alternée.
• Pour un mode standa rd alterné, appuyez une fois
sur la pédale pour obtenir l’effet, puis appuyez à
nouveau pour activer le bypass.
• Pour un fonctionnement momentané, maintenez
la pédale enfoncée aussi lo ngtemps que vous
souhaitez utiliser l’ef fet. Une fois que vous relâc hez
le commutateur, l’effet sera en bypass.

L’Afterneath utilise un bypass électronique à buffer , il
nécessite une alimentation pour transmettre le signal
et le buffer est touj ours act if. Il se peut que l’Afterneath
produise un pop lor s de son premier allumage après
mise sous tension.
Commu tation «Tails / No Tails» (qu eues / pas de qu eues)
L’Afterneath est réglé d’usine en «mode tails». Cela signie
que le signal traité décline naturellement et s’estompe
lentement pour disparaître une fois l’effet désactivé.
Pour désactiver cette fonction :
• Débranchez le câble d’alimentation de la pr ise
d’alimentation.
• Maintenez le switch enfoncée et insérez le câble
d’alimentation.
• La LED clignote 3 fois. Vous pouvez maintenant
relâcher le switch.
Suivez les mêmes étap es pour réactiver le mode «tails».
Alimentation électrique
Cet appareil requiert une aliment ation standard 9 volt
DC (courant continu) avec pôle central négatif de 2.1mm.
Nous recommandons toujours de brancher une pédale
sur une prise d’alimentation murale spécique, isolée
par transformateur ou de multiples alimentations à sor tie
isolée. Les pédales produiront un bruit supplémentaire
en cas d’ondulation ou d’alimentation irrégulière.
Les alimentations à découpag e, les chaînages et les
alimentations non spéciques pour pédales ne ltrent

Una vez dentro, un reejo de luz de una fuente

¿Lanzarás “Length”, que controla la longitud del

¿O mejor “Dif fuse”, que ajusta la pr opagación de la
reverberación? Con su var ita (o simplemente el mando)
coloc ado a la izquierda, l a reverberación es más aguda y
con más at aque, lo que da co mo resultado u n tartamud eo
de reexiones iniciales separadas. Hacia la derecha,
lanzará un malecio deslumbrante y más ambiental.
Abrumado por el mi edo, lanz aste “Dampen!” a toda
prisa Después de g ritar el conjuro, obser vas que una
variación hacia la izquierda de este hechizo pro duce
tonos más b rillantes, mient ras que si girar tu varita a
la derecha escuchas tonos m ás oscuros con uno s
súper agudos más suaves. ¡Es cas i como si tu magia
cambiara la durez a de las pare des de la caverna y, por
lo tanto, las característic as tonales de la rever beración!
En alguna otra parte de tu libro de magia está “Drag”,

y quintas y octavas. Estos modo s cambian de forma
drástic a la forma en la que funciona el control Drag,
especi almente al usar un control de expresión o CV.
“Reect” modica la profundidad de la cueva, y con ello
la regeneración de la reverb eració n. Esto actúa como
un control de realiment ación y auto -oscilará si es usado
por un usuario de alto nivel. Gire a la derecha para más
lavados y ec os, y a la izquierda para menos.
Finalmente, “Mix” modic a el equilibrio al químico entre
la señal de e ntrada y el efecto. El Afterneath no llega a

Modes
El control Modes camb ia la for ma en la que funci ona el
contr ol Drag. El LED c ambiará de co lor para indi car qué
modo está activo.

2. Unquantized with Slew: Respuesta suave y no

Toma Expression
Esto es una toma de pedal de expresión para c ontrolar
la función Drag. Puede usar c ualquier pedal de
expresión con el Afterneath. La punta es el sistema de

También puede usar CV con este conector. CV funciona
con 0- 5v.

Drag lze ovládat řídícím napětím nebo pomocí
expression pedálu, který se zapojuje do konektor u
„EXP“ umístěného na boku. K dispozici je 9 různých
režimů, které se volí malým ovladačem „ Mode“. Jedná
se o tyto režimy: Bez kvantizace, Bez kvantizace s
funkcí Slew, Volt/Ok táva bez kvantizac e, Chromatická
stupnice, Durová stupnice, Mollová stupnice,
Pentatonická stupnice, Oktávy a k vinty a Oktávy. Tyto
režimy drasticky mění způsob, jakým ovládací prvek
Drag funguje, zejména při ovládání expression pedálem
nebo řídícím napětím.
„Reect“ ovlivňuje hloubku jesk yně a souč asně s ní
oživení dozvukového efektu. Funguje jako řízení zpětné
vazby a při obsazení uživatelem na v ysoké úrovni
vyvolává samovolné oscilace. Ve směr u hodinových
ručiček bude dozvuk živější s větším echem, prot i
směru hodinových ručiček bud e efektu méně.
A nakonec je tu „Mix“, k terý upravuje alchymic ké
vyvážení mezi vstupním signálem a efektem. Afterneath
neumí dosáhnout výhradně upr aveného signálu, ale př i
zvýšení úrovně tohoto ovladače umí navodit atmosfé ru

napětí 5 V a vn ější kontakt je zem.
S tímto ko nektorem můž ete použít i řídící napětí. Řídící
napětí pr acuje v rozsahu 0 - 5 V.
Technologie Flexi-Switch
Toto zařízení disponuje technologií Flexi -Switch!
Způsob elektronického přepínání umožňuje simultánní
použití okamžitého přepínání a přepínání s aretací.
• Při standardním přepínání s aretací stačí jedním
ťuknutím na nožní spínač aktivovat efekt a dalším
ťuknutím znovu přep nout na bypass.
• Při okamžitém přepínání stačí nožní spínač držet
sešlápnutý tak dlouho, jak b udete efekt potřebovat.
Jakmile spínač uvolníte, efekt bude bypassem
vyřazen.
After neath využívá elektro nický bypass s v yrovnávací
paměti, průchod signálu vyžaduje napájení a
vyrovn ávací paměť j e vždy aktivní. Po prvním zapnutí
modulu Afterneath možná zažijete nirvánu.

Přepín ání S dozněním / Bez doznění
After neath má z výroby nastaven režim „S dozněním“
(Tails). To znamená, že originální neupravený signál
přirozeně doznívá a po vypnutí efektu pomalu zaniká
do ticha.
Jak tuto funkci deak tivovat:
• Od napájecího konektoru odpojte napájecí kabel.
• Přidržte n ožní spínač a zapojte napájecí kabel.
• LED indikátor 3x zabliká. Nyní můžete nožní spínač
uvolnit.
Rež im S do zněním (Tails) se obnoví st ejným zp ůsobe m.
Požadavky na napájení
Toto zařízení má standardní 9V stejnosměrné napájení
s 2,1mm konektorem, záporný pól uprostře d. Vždy
doporučujeme napájecí zdroje určené výhradně pro
efektové pedály, buď zásuvkové adaptéry osazené
transformátorem nebo zdroje s větším počtem
izolovaných výstupů. Pokud b ude mít napájecí zdroj
zvlnění nebo n edokonale ltrované napětí, pedály
budou vydávat brum. Spínané napájecí zdroje, zdroje
s řetězově propojenými připojovacími kabely a zdroje,
které nejsou určeny pro efektové pedály, ne ltrují dobře
zvlněné napětí a nechávají procházet nežádoucí brum.
