IMPORTANT
The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance
with the following code:
Green and Yellow: Earth (E)
Blue: Neutral (N)
Brown: Live (L)
The wire which is coloured green and yellow must be connected to the terminal which is marked by the letter E or by the safety earth symbol or coloured green and yellow. The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured black. The wire which is coloured brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured red.
If a 13 Amp (B.S. 1363) plug or any other type of plug is used, a 5 Amp fuse must be fitted either in the plug or at the distribution board.

AVOID jointing the microphone cable, when this is
unavoidable make sure a good screened connector is used, e.g. XLR.
ALWAYS use a balanced or floating low impedance
microphone terminating into a balanced input on long microphone cable runs.
ALWAYS use a mains grade double insulated cable for
the loudspeaker cable runs.
ENSURE that all loudspeakers are in-phase. ENSURE that there are no short circuits on the
loudspeaker line before connecting to the amplifier.
REMOVE the top cabinet when fitting the 19” rack ears
supplied (these are fitted using the existing screw holes and screws from the top cabinet).

Mic 1 & Mic 2 Input Connections
These Microphone inputs use an XLR connector for signal input and if required a 180° DIn plug can also be used to obtain priority operation. Ideally a balanced or floating microphone with an impedance of 600should be used. If priority is required the microphone must also have a normally open volt free switch.

Priority Connection
The Signal connections should be made as shown in Non-Priority above.
The 5 pin 180° DIN socket directly above the microphone input socket is used to obtain priority functions for the input socket. Other features are also available on this socket.

1 Mute: Used to override Mic inputs 3 to 5 and/or Auxiliary inputs 1 to 3, to override these inputs short to pin 2. This action will
also activate the “Ding Dong” chime.
2 Ground: Connected to the equipment chassis.
3 Busy: Open collector, going to ground when pin 1 is shorted to ground.
4 Speak Now: Open collector, going to ground when pin 1 is shorted to ground and the “Ding Dong” chime has finished.
5 24Vdc Output: Used for phantom powering of other equipment. E.g. Relays, Microphones, etc. Max. current must not exceed
0.5 Amps total (not per socket).
Mic 3 & Aux 1 Connections Microphone 3 is connected exactly the same way as the signal connections for Mic 1 & Mic 2. Please note that no priority
functions are available for this input.
The amplifier leaves the factory pre-configured for this input set as Mic 3, however if needed this can easily be re-configured as an auxiliary input, this is achieved by the following process:
1. Remove the top case
2. Locate switch on the rear PCB (three switches are located on the rear PCB, the switch required is the left most one when viewed from the front panel).
3. Set the switch to the position nearest the rear panel.
4. Replace the top cover.
The input Aux 1 uses two standard RCA Phono plugs. These are shorted together internally and provide a mono input.

Mic 4, 5 & Aux 2, 3 Connections These inputs are configured at the factory as Auxiliary inputs. The connection for these is exactly the same as for Aux
1 above. These inputs may be re-configured as balanced microphone inputs, this is achieved by the following process:
1. Remove top cover.
2. Locate switch for Mic 4 and/or for Mic 5 (these are located on the PCB along the rear panel, the centre switch is for Mic 4 and the rightmost switch is for Mic
5).
3. Set the switch to the position furthest from the rear panel.
4. Replace the top cover.
The microphone inputs use standard 1/4 Stereo Jack Sockets, these are wired as follows:

If you wish to use an unbalanced microphone, ensure the microphone is fitted with a standard 1/4 Mono Jack Plug, when this is inserted into the microphone input socket, the input will automatically become unbalanced.
Phantom Power
A new feature has been added to the PA5000 series amplifiers. This feature will enable phantom powering of Electret Condenser Microphones. The phantom power can be turned on or off by moving the shorting pliug on the link pins adjacent to each input.
The phantom powering is set to ‘OFF’ by default and can be enabled by following the instructions below:-
1 Remove the power lead from the wall socket. 2 Remove the top cover 3 Locate the link pins for each input socket (these are located behind each microphone input socket and are three vertical pins, two of which are shorted together
using a black coloured shorting plug).
4 Each set of link pins will have one pin marked with the letter ‘C (on the PCB), shorting this pin to the centre pin will enable the phantom power. To disconnect
the phantom power, move the shorting plug so that the centre and unmarked pins are shorted, or alternatively the shorting plug can be removed and kept in a safe place for future use.
Booster Out Connections
For simple connections to a booster two RCA Phono sockets are fitted, these are shorted together internally and provide a fixed output (output is independent of the master gain and tone controls, but dependant on the Mic/Aux level controls).

Where a variable output (output is dependent on all controls) or the extended features offered on the DIN Socket are required proceed as follows:

Connecting a 5000 Series mixer amplifier to a 5000 Series booster
These amplifiers can be connected using Phono to Phono leads from the mixer amplifier booster out to the booster in socket on the booster amplifier, further boosters can be connected by connecting from the booster out of the first booster amplifier to the booster in of the second. Up to three boosters can be connected in this way.
If the two zone feature is required, the 5 pin DIN socket must be used. First decide if you require fixed or variable output, from this pin wire to pin 1 of the DIN plug to the booster, wire Pin 2 to Pin 2 (using the screen) and wire Pin 3 to Pin 3. This completes the connection from the mixer/amplifier to the first booster. To wire from one booster to another, wire Pin 1 to Pin 1, Pin 2 to Pin 2 and Pin 3 to Pin 3. This lead should then be connected from the out socket of the first booster to the in socket of the second. Up to three boosters can be connected in this way.
Loudspeaker Connection
Note: Use only 100V Line Loudspeakers
Two loudspeaker outputs are provided. The output marked Speech/Music gives an output at all times, reproducing any signal input into the amplifier. The output marked Speech Only will only reproduce a signal during a priority condition, therefore an output from this connection will be present when Mic 1 or Mic 2 is in a priority condition, this means that only the ‘Ding Dong’ chime and the signal from one of these microphone inputs will be presented to this output.
Battery Connections
All of the 5000 series amplifiers can be operated from a 24Vdc power source. When connecting batteries please ensure correct polarity.

Operation of Cassette Module
The cassette mechanism fitted into the Cassette module is an auto-reverse type which detects when the end of the tape has been reached and will automatically reverse the direction of the tape and play the opposite side of the cassette, this function will continue until the cassette is removed from the module.
Note: Due to the abrasive nature of the Cassette tapes some oxide from the tape will be deposited on to the cassette mechanism and therefore the mechanism will need cleaning at regular intervals. Cleaning cassettes can be purchased from most good hi-fi stores.
DO NOT use C120 cassettes.
Inserting a Cassette
The cassette should be inserted edge first with the exposed tape on the right­hand side, push the cassette into the mechanism until the cassette drops into position.
Removing the Cassette
Firmly press the eject button, the cassette will be ejected.
Fast Wind
The cassette can be fast wound in either direction to any position on the tape by pressing one of the fast wind buttons.
Direction change
The side of the cassette currently playing can be changed to play the other side of the cassette at any time by pressing both fast wind buttons simultaneously.
Operation of the Tuner Module
Aerials
Separate Aerials are required for the reception of AM and FM signals, in strong signal strength areas a short wire will be sufficient to receive AM signals. If FM signals are required it is recommended that an external Aerial is fitted. Advice on which aerial will best be suited for your area should be available from your local aerial supplier.
Upto six stations can be pre-set, each pre-set can be tuned to a station on either AM or FM (not both). When tuning in to a specific station you should have available the stations transmission frequency as this will make the process much easier.
Module removal
In the event of failure any of the modules fitted to the equipment covered in this manual can be easily removed for servicing or replacement. To remove a module proceed as follows.
Warning: the following process should only be completed by qualified personnel.
1. Disconnect the equipment from the mains power supply by removing the plug from the wall socket.
2. Remove the two allen screws from the front plate of the module using a
2.5mm allen key.
3. Carefully pull out the mechanism taking care not to snag or put strain onto the interconnecting leads. When removing cassette modules it will be noticed that the motor sited at the left-hand rear of the module will make contact with the mounting bracket for the front plate of the module, at this point the module should be rotated on a horizontal axis allowing the right-hand rear corner of the module to be released from the mounting rails. The module can now be removed.
4. Disconnect the interconnecting leads from the module.
5. The module can be refitted by reversing the above procedure.
Tuning into a station
1. Press the station selector button you wish to tune.
2. Select AM or FM band.
3. The LED display will show the frequency that the equipment is currently set to, (in KHz on AM and MHz on FM).
4. Adjust the adjacent pre-set control to the desired frequency, anti­clockwise to reduce the frequency, clockwise to increase the frequency.
5. The station is now tuned.

WIRING OF PA5200C Single Unit Operation
For single unit operation, set the mode selector switch located on the rear panel to the SA position. The two Phono type sockets marked OUT on the rear panel are the signal output sockets, although two sockets are supplied the output signal is mono. It is not necessary to use both of these sockets when wiring to mono amplifiers.
Three unit operation
For two or three unit operation one unit must be designated the master unit, this can be done by moving the mode selector switch on the front panel to the ‘M’ position, all other units must be switched to slave mode, this is done by moving the selector to the ‘S’ position. The wiring of the units must be as per the diagram opposite. The two Phono type sockets marked ‘OUT’ on the rear panel of the final slave are the signal output sockets, although two sockets are supplied the output signal is mono. It is not necessary to use both of these sockets when wiring to mono amplifiers.
Operation
To operate just insert a cassette in to one of the cassette decks (of the master unit if more than one unit is being used), the cassette will start playing, if further cassettes are inserted into the remaining decks the machine will play the first side if the current deck, auto-reverse and play the second side of the current deck and at the end of this side switch to the next deck in the chain. If a deck is empty then the machine will ignore this deck.

Operation
For Operation of the Tuner module and for aerial connection please refer to the earlier section.
Output Mode Selector
This switch is provided to enable the user to use either two separate Aux inputs or one single Aux input on an amplifier.
In the separate position each module will only have an output signal present on its own output sockets, this allows the modules to be connected either to two Aux inputs in one amplifier giving a volume control for each module. Alternatively these outputs could be wired to two separate amplifiers giving different music sources for different areas. In this mode of operation the module selector switch must be set to the “BOTH’ position.
In the ‘mix’ position the output sockets of module A and module B are linked together internally, this allows the user to use both modules into one Aux input on an amplifier. In this mode of operation the module selector switch must be set to the module currently in use. Although two audio output sockets are supplied for each module, the output signal is mono. It is not necessary to use both these sockets when wiring to mono amplifiers.
