IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

BEFORE CHARGING THE BATTERY OR USING THIS APPLIANCE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS AND
CAUTIONARY MARKINGS IN THIS MANUAL, ON THE CHARGER, ON THE BATTERY AND ON THE DYSON
VACUUM CLEANER.

When using an electrical appliance, basic precautions should always be followed, including the following:

WARNING

TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK, OR INJURY:

1. This Dyson vacuum cleaner and charger are not intended for use by young children or infirm persons with reduced
physical, sensory or reasoning capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given
supervision or instruction by a responsible person concerning use of the Dyson vacuum cleaner or charger to ensure
that they can charge and use the Dyson vacuum cleaner safely.

2. Do not allow to be used as a toy. Close attention is necessary when used by or near children. Children should be
supervised to ensure that they do not play with the Dyson vacuum cleaner or charger.

3. Do not install, charge or use the Dyson vacuum cleaner outdoors, in a bathroom or within 3.1m of a pool. Do not
use the Dyson vacuum cleaner or charger on wet surfaces and do not expose to moisture, rain or snow. Do not use
to pick up water.

4. Do not use or charge with damaged cable. If the Dyson vacuum cleaner or charger is not working as it should, has
received a sharp blow, has been dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped into water, do not use and contact
the Dyson Customer Care Helpline.

5. Do not unplug the charger by pulling on the cable. To unplug, grasp the charger, not the cable.

6. Unplug the charger from socket when not in use for extended periods. Make sure the charger cable is located so
that it will not be stepped on, tripped over, or otherwise subjected to damage or stress.

7. Do not stretch the charger cable or place the cable under strain. Keep the cable away from heated surfaces.

8. Do not handle the charger, including the charger terminals or Dyson vacuum cleaner with wet hands.

9. Do not put any object into openings. Do not use with any opening blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair, and anything
that may reduce airflow.

10. Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all parts of body away from openings and moving parts, such as the
brushbar.

11. Use extra care when cleaning on stairs.

12. Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids, such as petrol, or use in areas where they may be present.

13. Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches, or hot ashes.

14. Do not use without the clear bin and filter in place.

15. Use only as described in this Dyson Operating Manual. Use only Dyson recommended accessories and replacement
parts. Do not carry out any maintenance other than that shown in this Dyson Operating Manual, or advised by the
Dyson Customer Care Helpline.

16. Contact the Dyson Customer Care Helpline when service or repair is required. Do not disassemble the Dyson
vacuum cleaner as incorrect reassembly may result in an electric shock or fire.

17. Use only Dyson chargers for charging this Dyson vacuum cleaner. Use only Dyson batteries, other types of batteries
may burst causing injury to persons and damage.

18. Unplug the charger from socket before cleaning or maintenance.

19. The use of an extension cable is not recommended.

20. Do not incinerate this Dyson vacuum cleaner even if it is severely damaged. The battery may explode in a fire.

21. Do not press the battery release button during normal operation.

22. Always turn off the Dyson vacuum cleaner before connecting or disconnecting the motorised brush bar.

USING YOUR DYSON VACUUM CLEANER

CAUTIO N:

• Do not allow the vacuum cleaner to b e used by anyone who may n ot be able to
operat e it safely.

• Take caution n ot to engag e the silver batte ry release but ton during n ormal
operat ion.

• Dirt an d debris ma y be relea sed from the Dyson vacuum cleaner if it is tu rned
upside do wn.

• Ensure th e Dyson va cuum cleaner remain s upright in use.

• Do not ope rate the D yson vacu um cleane r while che cking for b lockages.

• Do not use outdoors or on wet sur faces o r to vacuum water or othe r liquids –
elect ric shock c ould occur.

• Do not lubr icate any p arts, or carry out any maintenance or re pair work other
than tha t shown in this Dyson Operating Manual, or advised by t he Dyson
Custom er Care Helpline.

PLEA SE NOTE:

• This Dyson vacuum cleaner is d esigned f or domes tic indoo r and car use o nly.
Do not use it whilst th e car is in motion or while driving.

• Do not use t he Dyson vacuum cleaner to pick u p sharp hard object s, small toy s,
pins, pap er clips, etc. They may damage th e Dyson va cuum cleaner.

• This pro duct has carbon f ibre brushes. Take c are if coming into contact
with them. They ma y cause minor skin irritation. Wash yo ur hands a fter
handli ng the bru shes.

• Do not press down on th e nozzle with exces sive force w hen using t he Dyson
vacuum cleaner as this may caus e damage.

• If the motor overheats, the D yson vacuum cleane r will cut out a utomatically.
Leave it to cool for at least an hour and check for blockages bef ore restarting.

• Fine dir t such as flo ur or plaster dust should only b e vacuume d in very small
amount s.

• Before vacuuming highly polis hed floo rs, such as wo od or lino, first chec k that
the unde rside of th e floor too l and its bristles ar e free from f oreign obj ects th at
could cau se markin g.

• To avoid damaging the flo or do not pus h hard with the floor to ol. Do not le ave
the cleaner head in one place on delicate f loors.

• On waxed f loors th e movement of the cleaner head may create a n uneven
lustre. I f this happ ens, wipe w ith a damp cloth, polish t he area wit h wax, and
wait for it t o dry.

• Consult your floor ing manu factur er’s rec ommended inst ructio ns befor e
vacuum ing and ca ring for yo ur floor ing, rugs, and car pet. The brush
bar on the Dyson va cuum cle aner can damage c ertai n carpet types
and floors. Som e carpe ts will fuz z if a rotating brush bar is used when
vacuum ing. If th is happe ns, we rec ommend v acuuming without the
motorh ead and c onsulti ng with your floori ng manuf acture r.

• Do not use any lubricants, cleaning agent s, polishes or air fresheners o n any
part of t he Dyso n vacuum cle aner or cha rger.

• This Dyson vacuum cleaner is f itted with a ther mal cut-out. If any par t of the
Dyson vacuum cleaner becomes blocked the machine may overheat and
automa tically shut ‘OFF’. If this ha ppens, switch ‘OFF ’ the Dys on vacuum
cleane r and allow to co ol before attempting to che ck the filter or for blockages.
Clear any b lockages before restart ing (see pa ges 4, 6 and 8).

• Store the Dyson va cuum cleaner indoors. Do not us e or store th is Dyson
vacuum cleaner below 3°C. Ensure tha t the Dys on vacuum cl eaner is at room
temper ature before operating.

TROUBLESHOOTING – DYSON VACUUM CLEANER

Charged.

Flashing light – less t han one minu te of charge remaining /
fully discharged.

Rapidly f lashing light – too cold /too hot. Do not use.

Filter missing/f ilter fitted inc orrectly.

EMPTYING THE CLEAR BIN

CAUTIO N:

• Switch ‘O FF’ the D yson vacuum cleane r and discon nect from charger b efore
emptying the clear bin.

• To make emptying the clear bin easier, it is advisable to remove t he wand and
motorhead.

• Empty a s soon as the dirt rea ches the level of the M AX mark – do not overfill.

• To release th e dirt, push the red button at th e side of the clear bin as shown on
page5.

• To minimise dus t/allergen co ntact when empt ying, enc ase the cle ar bin tightly
in a plast ic bag and em pty. Remov e the clear b in carefully and seal b ag tightl y,
dispose as normal.

• Do not use t he Dyson vacuum cleaner with out the cle ar bin in place.

CLEANING THE CLEAR BIN

CAUTIO N:

• To remove the clear bin, push the red but ton at the side of the cl ear bin as you
would whe n empty ing the cle ar bin. The n press the red relea se butt on on the
unders ide of the Dyson vacuum cleaner as shown on p age 6.

• Clean the clear bin with cold wat er only.

• Ensure th e clear bin is completely dry before repl acing.

PLEA SE NOTE:

• Do not use d etergents, polishes or air freshener s to clean the clear bin.

• Do not put t he clear bin in a dishwash er.

• Clean the shroud wit h a cloth or dr y brush to remove lint an d dirt.

WASHING YOUR FILTER

CAUTIO N:

• Switch ‘O FF’ and dis connec t from charger before removing the filte r.

• Wash with cold water only.

PLEA SE NOTE:

This Dyson vacuum cleaner ha s one filter, located as shown. It is important to
check your filter and wash with cold water regularl y or as requir ed to maintain
perf ormance. The filter may require more fre quent was hing if vacuuming fine
dust or if u sed mainly in ‘HIGH CONSTAN T SUCT ION’ power mode.

• Afte r washing please leave for 12 hours to dr y completely.

• Ensure th e filter is c omplete ly dry before refitting to the Dyson vacuum cle aner.

• Do not use d etergents to clean the filte r.

• Do not put t he filter in a dishwash er, washing machine, tumble dryer, oven,
microwave or near an op en flame.

LOOKING FOR BLOCKAGES

CAUTIO N:

• Switch ‘O FF’ the D yson vacuum cleane r and discon nect from charger b efore
looking for blockages. Failure to do so could result in personal in jury.

• Beware of sharp objects wh en clearing blockag es.

• Refit all parts o f the Dyson vacuum cleaner securely before using.

PLEA SE NOTE:

• Clearin g blockages is not covered by your Dyson vacuum cleaner’s limited
guarant ee. If any part of your D yson vacuum cleaner becomes blocked, it may
overheat and then a utomati cally shut ‘OFF’.

• Switch ‘O FF’ and unplug your Dyson vacuu m cleaner and leave to cool down.
Clear blockage before rest arting.

CLEARING BRUSH BAR OBSTRUCTIONS

CAUTIO N:

• Switch ‘O FF’ the D yson vacuum cleane r and discon nect from charger b efore
clearin g brush ba r obstru ctions . Failure to do s o could result in personal injur y.
If your brush bar is obstruc ted, it may shut ‘OFF’. If this h appens yo u will need t o
remove the brush bar a s shown on page 4 and cle ar any obst ructin g debris.

• Remove th e brush bar by using a coin to unlock the fasten er marked w ith a
padlock. Remove th e obstruction. R eplace the brush ba r and secure it by lockin g
the fas tener.

• Take care if coming into contact with the carbon fibre brushes, as they may
cause minor skin irritation. Wash your hands af ter handling the brush es.

• Beware of sharp objects wh en clearing blockag es.

• Refit all parts o f the vacuum c leaner securely b efore usin g.

PLEA SE NOTE:

• Clearin g brush ba r obstru ctions is not covered by your Dys on vacuum cl eaner’s
limited guarantee.

CHARGING AND STORING YOUR DYSON
VACUUM CLEANER

• Your Dyson va cuum cleaner will tur n ‘OFF’ if th e battery temperatur e is below
3°C. T his is designed to prot ect the m otor and ba tter y of your product. Do
not charg e the Dyson vacuum cleaner and t hen move it to a n area with a
temper ature below 3˚C for stora ge purpo ses.

• To help prolon g batte ry life, a void recha rging imme diately a fter a full discharge.
Allow to co ol for a few minutes.

• Avoid using the Dyso n vacuum cle aner wit h the bat tery flush to a sur face. This
will help it run coole r and prolon g batte ry run time and life.

• If mounting the char ging dock on a wall, follow th e instru ctions supplied with
this Dys on vacuum cleaner. Ensur e the dock is f itted correc tly and the r ight
way up, so the motor of the D yson vacuum cleaner is at the top when in pla ce.
Take all neces sary safety p recauti ons. Use ap propriate fixing s, tools and
safet y equipment.

• When charging via the dock the b atter y must b e in the Dys on vacuum cl eaner.

BATTERY SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

• The Dyson vacuum cleaner must be disconnect ed from the mains supply when
removing the bat tery.

• Use only D yson batteries and charging unit for this Dyson vacuum cle aner.

• The bat tery is a sealed unit and unde r normal circumstan ces pose s no safet y
concer ns. In the un likely event that liquid leaks fro m the bat tery do n ot touch th e
liquid and o bserve the follow ing preca utions:

• Skin con tact – can c ause irri tation. Was h with soap and water.

• Inhalation – can cause respira tory irritation. Provide fr esh air and seek
medical advice.

• Eye cont act – can cause irrit ation. Immediate ly flush eyes thoroug hly with wa ter
for at lea st 15minutes. Seek me dical at tention.

• Disposal – wear glove s to handle t he batt ery and dispose of im mediately
following local ordinances or regulati ons.

CAUTI ON:

The bat tery used in this d evice may p resent a risk of fire or chemical bu rn if
mistre ated. Do not disassemble, shor t conta cts, heat above 60 °C, or incinerate.
Replac e batte ry with a D yson ba tter y only: use of any other b atter y may pre sent
a risk of fire or explos ion. Dispose of used b atter y promptly. Keep away from
children. Do not disas semble and do not disp ose of in fire.

AUSTRALIAN CONSUMER LAW

The details of the Dyson guara ntee are se t out below. In addition t o your right s
under th e Dyson gu arantee, w e also provid e the following statement as
required by the Australian Con sumer La w: In Aust ralia, your D yson vacuum
cleane r comes with statu tory guarantee s that cann ot be excluded under t he
Australian Consu mer Law. You are ent itled to a re placement or refund for a
major failure and for compensa tion for any other reasonably f oresee able loss or
damage. You are also entit led to have y our Dyso n vacuum cle aner repaired or
replaced if it fails to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amo unt to
a major failure.

DYSON 2 YEAR GUARANTEE
TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Terms and conditions of your Dyson 2 year guar antee.

• The Dyson guarantee beco mes effective from the da te of purchase.

• All work w ill be carried out by Dyson App liances ( Aust) P ty Ltd., Avery Robin son
Ltd. (NZ ), Singap ore’s authori sed agen t - Serv ice @ Home P te. Ltd., Indonesia’s
author ised agent - PT Higienis Indon esia or their author ised age nts.

• Any par ts repla ced will become the p roper ty of Dy son Appli ances (A ust) Pt y Ltd.,
Avery R obinson Ltd. (NZ), D yson Sin gapore P te Ltd. or P T Higienis Indones ia.

• The repa ir and repla cement of your Dyson vacuum cleaner und er Dyson
guarant ee will not extend the Dyson g uarantee period.

• The Dyson guarantee provid es benef its whic h are additional to and do not affe ct
your sta tutor y rights an d remedie s as a consumer.

• You must provi de proof of (b oth origin al and any sub sequent) deliver y/purchase
before any work can be carried out on your Dyson vacuu m cleaner. Without
this proof, any work carried out pur suant to th e Dyson gu arantee a nd any
associated deli very charges (bot h to and from us) will be at you r cost, subject to
your sta tutor y rights an d remedie s as a consumer. Please keep your receipt or
deliver y note.

WHAT IS COVERED

Your Dyson guarantee covers:

• The repa ir or replac ement of yo ur Dyson vacuum cle aner if your D yson vacuum
cleane r is found to b e defec tive due to faulty ma terials, w orkmans hip or func tion
within 2 ye ars of purchase or deli very (if any part is n o longer a vailable or o ut of
manufa cture Dyson will re place it with a func tional rep lacement part).

• Use of the D yson vacuum cleaner in the coun try of purchase.

WHAT IS NOT COVERED

Under your Dyson g uarantee, Dyson sh all not be liable for cos ts of repair or
replacement of a pro duct incurred as a result of:

• Normal w ear and tear (e.g. fuse, belt, brush bar, batteries etc).

• Reduc tion in bat tery discharge time due to ba tter y age or use.

• Industrial use of t he Dyson vacuum cle aner such a s vacuuming gyprock dust or
builder s dust. This may void your Dyson guarantee.

• Accide ntal damage, faults caused by negligent u se or care, ne glect, careless
operat ion or handling of the Dy son vacuu m cleaner w hich is not in a ccordance
with this D yson Op erating M anual.

• Blockag es – pleas e refer to this Dyson O perating Manual f or details of how to
unblock y our Dyso n vacuum cle aner.

• Use of the D yson vacuum cleaner for any thing othe r than normal domes tic
household purpo ses in the co untry of purchase.

• Use of par ts not as semble d or installed in accordance with the inst ructio ns
of Dyson.

• Use of parts and accessories other than those produced or recommended by Dyson.

• Damage f rom external sou rces such as transit, weather, electrical outages or
power sur ges.

• Failures c aused by cir cumstan ces outside Dyson’s control.

• Repairs or alterations carr ied out by parties o ther than Dyson or its
author ised agents.

If your Dy son guara ntee doe s not apply, you may have statutor y rights a nd
remedies available to you as a con sumer.

• Never pick up hot cinde rs or lit ciga rette e nds.

• Do not at tempt to pick up water w ith your Dyson vacuum cleaner. It has not
been de signed as a w et pick-up cleaner.
