Dynaudio Contour series, an ambitious goal that could only
be realized through the company’s 25 years of experience

loudspeaker is reinforced by a solid metal plate, fused to the
wooden cabinet by a resonance-absorbing damping panel.
This highly rigid construction provides an ideal foundation for
the high-performance Dynaudio drivers to operate to their
fullest potential. Additionally, the components need to operate
in a stable thermal environment. The crossover of the S 5.4

high quality components are attached by a heat-dissipating
adhesive onto an aluminium plate, which is integrated into
the cabinet’s back side. As a result, all components operate
at an ideal and stable working temperature. Even when handling extreme power, the components will never over-heat
and thus remain unaffected for extended longevity.
The combination of two powerful woofers and a dynamic
midrange driver offers the S 5.4 a perfect balance of force
and speed, enabling a most impressive performance in any
stereo or home theater system.

In the elements of nature, the earth is offered the essence
of its foundation. This silent presence is the basis for all
life, the base of every shape and form. Similar to nature,
sound also requires a solid foundation: the foundation of
the Dynaudio Contour. The S 3.4 emerges as one of the
most perfect forms of a natural, life-like sound.
The Contour cabinet is strengthened by cross-braces in
specific areas to achieve an absolutely solid construction.
Internally, the MDF walls are damped with an extremely

dense material that absorbs even the smallest resonance.
In conjunction with the advanced baffle construction, an
extremely stiff and rigid unit is created, further ennobled by
the finely polished surface of a beautifully finished real wood
veneer.
The innovative base plinth, similar to that of the Dynaudio
Confidence series, serves as a solid yet stylish stand and
provides an ideal foundation for the loudspeaker cabinet.

The deeper frequencies are handled by two powerful MSP
mid/bass drivers that combine a large cone surface
area with the power and control of two drivers, thereby
delivering a more precise and controlled reproduction of
the signal.

The different layers of the Contour front baffle create

an extremely rigid and stable sandwich construction: the
drivers’ die-cast aluminium frames are mounted into a
high-mass metal plate, isolated by a layer of resonance
absorbing material which is adhered to the wooden cabinet.
The resulting fusion of materials provides an ideal foundation
for the moving driver systems.
The carefully hand-crafted finish exhibits visible precision:
the lavishly finished wood veneer underscores Dynaudio’s
experience in craftsmanship; a CNC machined tweeter base
plate is precisely integrated into the front baffle; surface
colors strike a matching balance while creating a characteristic styling.
The close integration of the mid/bass driver and the
tweeter plate renders a uniquely shaped profile while also
aiding a homogenous, point source-like sound radiation.
Equally important is the soft dome tweeter, which ensures
smooth and even sound wave radiation, independent of the
volume level.

The Dynaudio Stand

connection while also combining to form a homogenous
design. It is possible to use conventional stands or bookshelf
placement as well, depending on the application.
This slim, elegant loudspeaker line is tuned for optimum
performance without the grilles in place. But it is possible to
cover the front baffle with the supplied grille with minimal
influence on the sound. The special material allows sound
waves to pass through virtually unaffected due to its textile
structure. The cloth is held by a frame covering only a
minimal surface area of the front baffle, and is secured to the
metal front gracefully via concealed magnets.
The five-millimeter thick metal front has a matching
damping panel lying beneath it, guaranteeing perfect heat
dissipation and a stable operating temperature for the
drivers. The precise cut and the perfect fit of all the surfaces
not only reflect the brilliant craftsmanship behind of the
Contour aesthetics, but hint to the masterful performance of
the loudspeakers as well.

The crossover divides the music signal from the amplifier to
e
the different drivers. A smooth frequency response is only
one of many requirements for a good loudspeaker concept,
but itself alone is no guarantee for excellent sound. Only
after intensive computer simulations, measurements and
extensive listening tests have our engineers found the right
balance of components and drivers.
The select crossover components are connected by thick
copper traces. Pure copper with long crystalline structures
delivers the signal to the drivers – without any loss. The
wires are produced to strict specifications and are unique to
each individual design.
The construction of the base plate is the foundation of
the Contour models. The crossover resides on the massive
socket. To protect the components against the sound wave
vibrations originating from the inner part of the loudspeaker,
all the sensitive components are attached to the PCB by a
special glue, ensuring that there is no chance they will be
subject to vibration.
The unusual choice of pure aluminium for the voice coils is
one of the outstanding features of Dynaudio driver technology. Thanks to the tremendous weight advantage compared
to conventional designs based on the heavier copper
alternative, we can achieve larger diameters and more
windings of the coil – enabling greater linear movement and
high reliability, without any compression.
The new Esotec tweeter: The dome, with its multiple layer
coating, is driven by an aluminium voice coil. In the inner
section of the tweeter, a cone disperses the backwave energy into an absorption chamber. The rigid plastic back chamber has a special structure to avoid ringing or vibration.
The geometrically optimized MSP woofer diaphragm is
also driven by an aluminium voice coil on a Kapton
T o control the complete surface of the diaphragm, we employ
a large diameter coil – much larger than conventional designs
constructed of copper . The result is a greater control, with an
improved impulse response and superior reliability at high
power.

Founded in Denmark in 1977, Dynaudio originated as
a group of engineers and loudspeaker developers who
held a penchant for music and loudspeaker design.
They came to the mutual conclusion that even highquality loudspeakers were not able to reproduce recor-
ded music without coloration. At that time, distortion,
timing differences, phase shift and slow impulse response were not
only audible, but also clearly measurable. One of the reasons for
these short-comings was that there were only a few companies
developing and manufacturing loudspeaker technology in-house.
The few manufacturers that did, not only limited their development
to few measuring procedures, but failed to consider music-relevant
factors.
The Dynaudio team knew from its technical background that the
only way it could produce a truly good loudspeaker product would
be by developing its own drivers. In the town of Skanderborg,
Denmark they set forth to realize their ambition to create a new
generation of loudspeakers, based on the company’s own technological developments.
The first, and most important step was to avoid the
accepted, conventional means of material, technology and
manufacturing prevalent at that time, and to instead realize
Dynaudio’s own ideas in order to avoid the known disadvantages
of the conventional methodology. The results achieved were
innovations in each detail of the loudspeaker, which formed the
technical basis for Dynaudio. Many of the original Dynaudio
developments and innovations form the core of the driver
technology responsible for the advanced Dynaudio sound quality
enjoyed today.
The Dynaudio tradition has always been particularly committed to
the state-of-the-art in high-end loudspeaker designs. Even in the
demanding premium car hi-fi business, and the most advanced
recording studios of the world, Dynaudio loudspeaker technology is
highly respected and widely utilized – a result of the demanding
QS 9000 Quality Certification that the Dynaudio production has
achieved, and the high performance of the products that result.
Innovation is still paramount at Dynaudio: The DDC
technology (Dynaudio Directivity Control) has established the
advanced Evidence Master and Evidence Temptation models as
reference loudspeakers around the world. A similar level of sound
quality was later realized with the Confidence series, which again is
the foundation for the latest development – the new Contour.
