Coaxial Cable Stripping Tool
DXE-UT-8213LR
For Solder type PL-259 Connectors
used on RG-213 sized coaxial cable
DXE-UT-8213LR-INS Rev 0b
The DXE-UT-8213LR has been designed to properly prepare coaxial cable for use with solder type PL-259 connectors. This unique cable
preparation tool will allow you to prepare RG-213 sized coaxial cable in the same proven manner as the K3LR world class contest station. This tool
is for standard solder type PL-259 connectors only and will work on a variety of RG-213 sized coaxial cable.
Properly cut the end of the coaxial cable with the DXE-CNL-911 Coax Cable Cutter to get a good flush cut. You want the coax to be round and not
oval when viewed from the end. If the cable is slightly oval, gently use pliers to round out the end of the coaxial cable. Place the prepared coaxial
cable end into the body of the DXE-UT-8213LR labeled "1st CUT". Firmly grip the coaxial cable and the DXE-UT-8213LR, turn the tool in a
clock wise direction while applying steady and slightly firm pressure. Grip the cable close to the tool. DXE-CG-8U Cable Grippers can help
maintain a good tight grip and keep the coax straight into the cutting tool. The DXE-UT-8213LR will begin cutting. Keep turning the tool until it
will not cut anymore, it will stop cutting at the proper length. Remove the coaxial cable, turn the DXE-UT-8213LR around for the second cut. Insert
the coaxial cable into the tool and again. Grip the cable close to the tool and turn the tool in a clock wise direction until the cutting is complete.
Remove the coaxial cable. Clean any excess cable cuttings from the tool. Fold the braid back and tin the center conductor with solder. Build up the
center insulation with 2-1/2 to 3 turns of 3M tape (part number TES-06132) so the PL-259 will not be loose. Fully insert the coax into the PL-259
and solder the center pin with solder. Twist the shield of the coax around the bottom of the PL-259. Use enough heat to add solder to the braid. Add
more heat and solder the braid to the base of the PL-259. Caution - the connector WILL get hot. When the PL-259 is warm to touch, wrap the base
of the PL-259 with 3M tape. Once the PL-259 is connected in your system - the complete connection must be properly weatherproofed to prevent
water from entering the PL-259 and coaxial cable. The premium cutting blades supplied with the DXE-UT-8213LR are made to last a long time. If
replacements are needed, order DXE-UT-RB-HD (customer supplied 7/64" Allen Wrench required).
