DX Engineering DXE-IS-RCT Instructions manual

Control Line Protector
DXE-IS-RCT
The DXE-IS-RCT is a custom made surge protector designed for use on rotator cables - up to 8 conductors.
The DXE-IS-RCT features:
and terminal gaskets to deter water from entering the enclosure.
The terminal strips are used to connect up to eight rotator control wires. The mounting stud is 1/4” x 20 allowing multiple mounting configurations. Each line is individually shunt protected using an MOV for maximum surge protection. Voltage spikes exceeding 82 Vdc (in either polarity) will shunt the current to ground.
Mounting The DXE-IS-RCT to a tower leg or ground rod can be done using the DXE-J-1 Grounding Clamp or DXE-UCGC-Z Copper Ground Rod Clamp. The location of the DXE-IS-RCT should provide a good, low impedance ground connection. The surface that the DXE-J-1 or DXE-UCGC-Z that the DXE- IS-RCT is connected to should be cleaned and coated with a conductive coating to minimize weather related complications and improve conductivity. The DXE-CCK Copper Cleaning kit provides cleaning pads and copper paste which is ideal for this application. If a tower or mast is being used and is properly grounded, the DXE-IS-RCT may be connected to the base of the tower just above the grounding point of the leg. When attaching to a ground rod, it is recommended that the ground rod also be connected to the tower ground and power ground to form one system. To minimize the interconnect inductance to the ground system, use as straight and as large a surface area strap as possible (remember skin effect). Keep bends at an 8” radius or larger.
Unplug the rotator control box before continuing. Ensure the rotator cable is long enough to allow easy connections to the terminals and when finished being wired, the unit is then rotated so the terminal strips and wires are facing downward.
Cut and trim each color wire. Connect each color to one screw using the included fork terminal lugs as shown. Remember this is a shunt to ground, so like colors go with like colors. Additional weatherproofing can be done using PTX-82180 Black RTV Silicone (non-acetic) on the wires once firmly connected to the terminal screws and on the wires where they exit the rotor cable jacket.
As with all electronic equipment, take proper safety considerations. For example: Do not install if there is a storm anywhere in your area. Do not adjust or touch the grounding system equipment when there is a storm anywhere in your area. Make sure all power is removed before making any adjustments or working on any ground system or grounding components.
