Introduction
DX Engineering Bead Choke Standoff Kits bring a practical solution to a serious problem with the use of ferrites on coaxial cable at the feedpoint of beam antennas. A limited number of Amateur Radio operators and antenna engineers have known for years about the superior choking function of many ferrite toroids beads placed on the coaxial cable, as compared to standard feedpoint baluns. A more recent revelation is that the proximity of those beads and coax to the aluminum boom of the antenna was drastically reducing their effectiveness.
DX Engineering Bead Choke Standoff Kits hold an RF bead choke and the incorporated feedline 4 inches away from the metal beam antenna boom (or 4 inches away from the metal mast for a dipole). They maintain the optimal choking performance of ferrite beads on coax. Using DX Engineering Bead Choke Standoff Kits, fully effective ferrite bead chokes function at peak performance for these key results:
Prevent feedline radiation of RF Preserve current balance for proper beam antenna pattern Prevent feedline shield exterior collected noise and signals from entering the antenna and
interior of the feedline, resulting in lower noise floor and enhanced reception
When installing a Beaded Choke on a typical Yagi antenna it is necessary to ensure that the ferrite beads used are kept in-line and away from the boom.
The boom of the antenna will effect the proper operation of the bead style choke if it is located very near or right next to the boom.
The DX Engineering Beaded Choke Standoff kits provide a sturdy guide for the choke and allow the beaded choke to be away from the boom for maximum performance.
Kits Available
There are four Beaded Choke Standoff kits available. Each kit has three assemblies.

Tools Required
5/16” Nut Driver
Assembly
The size of the Boom Clamps and the size of the PVC Guides depend on the model Standoff Kit. Attach one Boom Clamp to each of the Insulated Standoffs (color may vary) by threading them on
completely.
Using a 5/16” Nut Driver, attach a PVC Guide to the other end of the insulated standoff with the Hex Head Bolt, Split Washer and Flat Washer as show. Align the PVC Guide in the same direction as the Boom Clamp.
Depending on the length of the Beaded Choke being used, space the three completed guides on the antenna boom in place by opening the boom clamps, place them around the boom, then close and tighten the boom clamps in place. The Beaded Choke can then be routed through the Standoffs.

Once in place, it is suggested that you wrap the beaded choke in place using 3M Super 88 Vinyl Tape as shown in the example below.
