A Word About Power Levels
This kit uses parts that are designed to accept power levels as high as 400 watts or less in SSB mode, with an SWR of 1.5:1 or less without the use of an antenna tuner. As of March 5, 2012, the maximum legal power for the 60 meter band for Amateurs in the United States and it possessions
is 100 Watts Effective Radiated Power (ERP), as stipulated by the FCC. It is the user’s
responsibility to operate in a legal manner. One can expect that a coil loaded shortened vertical antenna would have close to unity gain at 5 MHz. In most directions, this vertical antenna has about the same maximum gain as a low dipole operated on the same frequency.

Note: Jet-Lube™ SS-30 Anti-Oxidant should be used between all antenna element sections. Jet-Lube™ SS-
30 is an electrical joint compound to affect a substantial electrical connection between metal parts such as telescoping aluminum tubing or other antenna pieces. It ensures high conductivity at all voltage levels by displacing moisture and preventing corrosion or oxidation.
Jet-Lube™ SS-30 should also be used on all coil clamps, element clamps, bolts and stainless steel
threaded hardware to provide good electrical contact, prevent galling, allow easier disassembly and to ensure proper tightening.
Introduction
The DX Engineering DXE-AOK-60M kit adds 60 meter coverage to the Hustler BTV series of vertical antennas without interfering with or giving up any existing band coverage. This kit will operate across the entire 60 meter band, on all 5 channels of operation, with an SWR of 1.5:1 or less. It adds a small amount of wind loading to the antenna that may require attention to the need for guying the antenna.
No disassembly of the existing antenna is required. Simply attach the 60 meter resonator and the capacity hat assembly to the top of the antenna with the included hardware. Then make some minimal tuning adjustments to the vertical and you're on the air with an additional band. If your BTV is installed on the roof or in an elevated position, a minimum of two more quarter-wave resonant radials for 60 meters should be added for best results.

Assembly Instructions
Assemble DX Engineering Hub and Rods as shown in Figure 1 and slide the assembly over the uppermost tubing section of the Hustler Antenna. Snug the hub onto the top tube about 18 inches below the top of the antenna on the 4-BTV, the bottom junction of the 80 meter trap on the 5 and 6 BTV. The final positioning will be adjusted during tuning.
Figure 1
The 60 meter Hustler Resonator is installed at the top of the antenna if you have a 4BTV. On the 5BTV or a 6BTV antenna, it is installed in conjunction with the 80 meter resonator.
Figure 2
- 3 -
5BTV and 6BTV Antennas - Assemble the Resonator Attachment Bracket to top of the BTV
antenna, as shown in Figure 2, using the longer stud and one of the 3/8-24 SS nuts supplied in the DX Engineering kit. Leave approximately 5/16” of stud above the nut to allow room to thread on the 80 meter resonator.
Place a 3/8” external tooth lock washer on the 3/8-24 x 3/4” bolt and push through the other hole in the Resonator Attachment Bracket. Add an additional 3/8” external tooth lock washer, 3/8-24 nut as shown above and tighten assembly.
Attach the 60 meter and 80 meter resonators as shown.
4BTV Antenna The Resonator Attachment Bracket is not used with this antenna since it does not have an 80M resonator. Thread one of the 3/8-24 SS nuts supplied in the DX Engineering kit on to the stud supplied with the Hustler antenna. Adjust the position of the stud inside the antenna to leave approximately 5/16” of stud above the nut to allow room to thread on the resonator. Attach the 60 meter resonator to the stud similar to the way in which the 80 meter resonator is attached in Figure 2 and Figure 3.
Adjustment of the antenna for resonance
Figure 3: Positioning the Hub and Rod assembly for 40 meter resonance
Setting the resonance of the antenna will require a series of adjustments. Each time an adjustment is made, the antenna must be raised into the normal vertical position in order to make accurate RF measurements.

First adjust the length of the whip on the 60 meter resonator, and then adjust the whip of the 80 meter resonator if you have one, to obtain the desired resonant frequencies.
Then adjust the vertical position of the DX Engineering Capacity Hat, as shown in Figure 3, to obtain the desired 40 meter resonant frequency. Loosening the 1/4-20 x 1-1/4 inch Socket Head Cap Screws to move the Capacity Hat assembly on the tubing and retighten them to secure the assembly in a new position. Positioning it higher on the tube will lower the 40 meter resonant frequency. Positioning it lower on the tube will raise the 40 meter resonant frequency.
There may be some interaction between the 60 meter resonance and the 40 meter adjustment. In that case, just repeat the adjustment of the 60 meter resonator.

Accessories
You will find that the DX Engineering Tilt Bases make the job of raising and lowering the antenna for adjustment much easier.
The addition of the DX Engineering 60 Meter Add-On Kit will increase the wind load of the antenna. Hence the antenna will have increased susceptibility to damage by strong winds. The DX Engineering Guying Kit is highly recommended.
