Description
This is a fast battery charger for 6 cell and 9 cell VBI-CBB Li-Ion batteries. Do not attempt to use this charger with any other battery type. Sixteen battery charging pockets are provided to rapidly service this specific type laptop computer battery. Working from a common line power outlet, a 600 Watt power supply mounted internally provides all the necessary power for charging these batteries as described below.
Operation and User Interface
Press the top half of the rocker switch in to turn the charger power supply ON. If line power is present, the power indicator will illuminate steady green and the power supply fan will become active producing an audible sound. This is normal. Place batteries into charger pockets in any position or sequence being careful to orient the batteries so the connectors line up, then gently pressing them down all the way into the pockets. Each of eight pairs (front/rear) of pockets operates independently charging batteries sequentially on a first inserted, first charged basis. When a battery is seated properly in a pocket its corresponding LED will illuminate solid yellow if the battery is the first of the pair to be inserted, or will blink yellow if the battery is the second of the pair to be inserted. When a pocket has finished charging, its LED will turn solid green and the second pocket of that pair will begin charging, if necessary. If a fully charged battery is inserted, the pocket will indicate charging for a short time, then terminate with the indicator showing solid green. See next page for a complete list of status indicators. When finished charging, batteries may remain in the pockets or be removed. Press the bottom half of the power switch to turn the charger off.
Charger Status Indicators
A tri-color LED indicator is located below each pocket to indicate charge status of the battery in that pocket:

Preparation for use
Place the charger unit on a sturdy horizontal surface with its line cord exiting the unit from the back side, the side away from the user. The power switch will be on the side nearest the user. Plug the AC line cord into a standard 115 VAC socket. The cord serves as the disconnect device. The line outlet socket must be near the unit and easily accessable. The circuit should be qualified to handle at least 15 Amps and be relatively free of other heavy loads while the charger is operating.

Smart Battery Calibration
INTEL VBI batteries are 'smart'. They have an internal controller that interacts with the computer to report charge status and other information. Through normal use errors in the estimated charge level will accumulate and cause false readings. These errors can be eliminated by re-calibrating the battery's internal controller. This charger has the facility to calibrate the controller of batteries placed in the two left-most front pockets. To trigger calibration of a battery in these pockets, momentarily press the front-panel calibrate switch associated with that pocket. The start of a calibration cycle will be confirmed by a blinking yellow/green indicator. The calibrate cycle will take up to nine hours. When finished the battery will be fully charged and the controller will be calibrated to that state.
