1.1 Allgemeine Sicherheitshinweise
Vor Gebrauch des Produkts die Gebrauchsanweisung aufmerk-
sam lesen.
Gebrauchsanweisung genau beachten. Der Anwender muss die
Anweisungen vollständig verstehen und den Anweisungen genau
Folge leisten. Das Produkt darf nur entsprechend dem Verwen
-
dungszweck verwendet werden.
Gebrauchsanweisung nicht entsorgen. Aufbewahrung und ord-
nungsgemäße Verwendung durch die Nutzer sicherstellen.
Nur geschultes und fachkundiges Personal darf dieses Produkt
verwenden.
Lokale und nationale Richtlinien, die dieses Produkt betreffen, be-
folgen.
Nur geschultes und fachkundiges Personal darf das Produkt über-
prüfen, reparieren und instand halten. Dräger empfiehlt, einen
Service-Vertrag mit Dräger abzuschließen und alle Instandhaltun

gsarbeiten durch Dräger durchführen zu lassen.
Für Instandhaltungsarbeiten nur Original-Dräger-Teile und -Zube-
hör verwenden. Sonst könnte die korrekte Funktion des Produkts
beeinträchtigt werden.
Fehlerhafte oder unvollständige Produkte nicht verwenden. Keine
Änderungen am Produkt vornehmen.
Dräger bei Fehlern oder Ausfällen vom Produkt oder von Produkt-
teilen informieren.
Das Gerät ist nicht für den Betrieb in explosionsgefährdeten Berei-
chen zugelassen oder zertifiziert.
Elektrische Kopplung mit Geräten, die nicht in dieser Gebrauchs-
anweisung erwähnt sind, nur nach Rückfrage bei den Herstellern
oder einem Fachmann vornehmen.
1.2 Bedeutung der Warnzeichen
Die folgenden Warnzeichen werden in diesem Dokument verwendet,
um die zugehörigen Warntexte zu kennzeichnen und hervorzuheben,
die eine erhöhte Aufmerksamkeit seitens des Anwenders erfordern.

Beschreibung
2.2 Verwendungszweck
Das Dräger Alcotest® 68201) dient zur schnellen Ermittlung der Alkoholisierung von Personen durch Messung der Atemalkoholkonzentration. Das Gerät ist für den mobilen und netzunabhängigen Betrieb
geeignet.
2.3 Gerätesymbole und Anzeigen
Der Atemalkohol-Messwert wird in der Grundeinstellung des Geräts in
der Einheit mg/L (= Milligramm Ethanol pro Liter Atemluft) angegeben.
Das Gerät kann auf alle gängigen Messeinheiten umgestellt werden.
2.3.1 Gerätesymbole
In dieser Gebrauchsanweisung werden entsprechend den Meldungen
auf der Geräteanzeige eine Reihe von Symbolen verwendet:

3Gebrauch
3.1 Voraussetzungen für den Gebrauch
Die Umgebungsluft muss frei von Alkohol- und Lösungsmittel-
dämpfen (Desinfektionsmittel) sein.
Genügend Abstand zu Antennen von Mobiltelefonen und zu Sen-
deanlagen einhalten.
3.1.1 Anforderungen an die Testperson
Wartezeit mindestens 15 Minuten nach der letzten Alkoholaufnah-
me in den Mund!
Restalkohol im Mund kann die Messung verfälschen. Auch bei
aromatischen Getränken (z.
B. Fruchtsaft), alkoholischen Mundsprays, medizinischen Säften und Tropfen und nach Aufstoßen
und Erbrechen können Verfälschungen auftreten. Auch in diesen
Fällen eine Wartezeit von mindestens 15
Minuten einhalten. Eine
Mundspülung mit Wasser oder nichtalkoholischen Getränken ver
-
kürzt die Wartezeit nicht!
Die Testperson soll vor der Probenahme normal und ruhig atmen.
Schnelles Ein- und Ausatmen durch den Mund vermeiden.
Die Testperson muss in der Lage sein, das erforderliche Mindes-
tatemvolumen von 1,2 L (Werkseinstellung) abzugeben. Der Ausatemstrom muss hierbei für eine gewisse Mindestausatemdauer
(Werkseinstellung 2
Sekunden) anliegen. Volumen und Zeit kön-
nen bei Bedarf über das Menü geändert werden.
3.2 Vorbereitungen für den Gebrauch
3.2.1 Batterien einsetzen oder auswechseln
1. Verschlussschraube auf dem Batteriedeckel lösen (z. B. mit einer
Münze) und den Batteriedeckel abnehmen.
2. Batterien einsetzen, dabei auf die richtige Polarität achten.
3. Batteriedeckel schließen und Verschlussschraube fest ziehen.
Erforderliche Batterien:
2 Stück 1,5 V Typ Alkaline (Mignon, LR6, AA) oder
Akku 2 Stück - 1,2 V NiMH(Mignon, LR6, AA)
VORSICHT
Explosionsgefahr!
Verbrauchte Batterien/Akkus nicht ins Feuer werfen und nicht
gewaltsam öffnen. Alkali-Batterien nicht wieder aufladen.
Entsorgung der Batterien/Akkus entsprechend den nationalen Regelungen.
Nur das in der Bestellliste angegebene Ladegerät verwenden.
Ausschließlich NiMH-Akkus laden.
HINWEIS
Um nach Entladung der Batterien bzw. der Akkus das Gerät
umgehend wieder einsetzen zu können, wird das Bereithalten von Ersatzbatterien empfohlen.
Einen Wechsel der Batterien innerhalb von 5 Minuten abschließen, andernfalls wird die gespeicherte Uhrzeit zurück
gesetzt und muss neu eingestellt werden.

3.2.2 NiMH-Akkus laden (optional)
NiMH-Akkus können durch eine spezielle Stromquelle im Gerät geladen werden.
Ladegerät (siehe Kapitel 12 auf Seite 19) mit der Lade- / Kommu-
nikationsbuchse verbinden.
Während des Ladevorgangs pulsiert die Batterieanzeige von leer
nach voll.
3.2.3 Handgelenkschlaufe montieren
1. Verschlussschraube auf dem
Batteriedeckel lösen (z. B.
mit einer Münze) und den
Batteriedeckel abnehmen.
2. Beiliegende Öse in die Öffnung stecken und mit den
beiliegenden Schrauben (2x)
festschrauben.
3. Befestigungslasche der
Handgelenkschlaufe durch
die Öse führen.
4. Unteren Teil der Handgelenkschlaufe durch die Schlaufe
ziehen.
5. Batteriedeckel schließen und
Verschlussschraube fest zie

6. Kordelversteller über Handgelenkschlaufe ziehen.
3.2.4 Handschlaufe montieren (optional)

1. Mundstück aus der Verpackung nehmen. Aus hygienischen Gründen Mundkontaktbereich durch Verpackung geschützt lassen, bis
Mundstück fest auf dem Gerät sitzt.

3.2.7 Gerät ein- und ausschalten
Um das Gerät einzuschalten:
OK-Taste ca. 1 Sekunde gedrückt hal-
ten, bis das Startfenster erscheint.
Ein Selbsttest wird durchgeführt.
Geräteinformationen werden angezeigt.
Wenn das Datum für den nächsten Service abgelaufen ist:
Gerät kalibrieren lassen, siehe Kapitel 7 auf Seite 15.
Um das Gerät auszuschalten:
OK-Taste gedrückt halten.
Das Gerät schaltet sich nach 2 Sekunden
ab.
3.3 Automatische Messung durchführen
Bei der automatischen Messung erfolgt die Probenahme durch das
Gerät automatisch, sobald die Testperson eine ausreichende
Atemprobe in das Mundstück des Gerätes abgegeben hat und das
Ende der Atemprobe vom Gerät erkannt wurde.
Um eine automatische Messung durchzuführen:
1. Neues Mundstück in den Halter stecken (siehe Kapitel 3.2.6 auf
Seite 9).
2. Gerät einschalten (siehe Kapitel 3.2.7
auf Seite 10).
Nach ca. 2 Sekunden erscheint in der
Anzeige BEREIT und ein kurzer Signalton ertönt. Gleichzeitig wird die aktuelle
Testnummer angezeigt.
Die Lampe blinkt grün.
Das Gerät ist messbereit.
3. Die Testperson auffordern, gleichmäßig und ohne Unterbrechung,
so lange wie möglich, in das Mundstück zu blasen.
HINWEIS
Das Gerät schaltet sich ca. 4 Minuten nach der letzten Bedienung automatisch ab.
Bei entladenen Batterien oder Akkus schaltet sich das Gerät
automatisch aus – das Batteriesymbol blinkt.

VORSICHT
Keine hohen Alkoholkonzentrationen auf den Sensor geben,
z. B. durch Spülen des Mundes mit hochprozentigen Alkoholika kurz vor der Messung. Hierdurch verringert sich die Lebensdauer des Sensors.

Für jede Testperson ein neues Mundstück einsetzen.

Während der Abgabe der Atemprobe
ertönt ein Dauerton, die grüne Lampe
leuchtet und in der Anzeige erscheint
Atemprobe.
Nach Abgabe der Atemprobe erlischt
die grüne Lampe, der Dauerton verstummt und ein kurzes Klicken ist zu hören.
In der Anzeige erscheint Analyse.
Nach 5 bis 25 Sekunden (abhängig von
der Gerätetemperatur und von der gemessenen Konzentration) erscheint das
Messergebnis in der Anzeige.

3.3.1 Weitere Messung durchführen
Drücken der OK-Taste bereitet eine
neue Messung vor.
Während der Erholzeit des Sensors,
siehe Kapitel 11 auf Seite 17, erscheint
in der Anzeige eine Sekundenanzeige
und ein rotierender Balken.
HINWEIS
Das Messergebnis wird mit der zugehörigen Einheit dargestellt. Die Einheit ist werkseitig auf mg/L (Milligramm
Ethanol pro Liter Atemluft) eingestellt und kann über das Menü geändert werden. Zusätzlich zum Messergebnis wird ein
akustisches Signal ausgegeben, zum Beispiel:
PASS – 1 x, ALERT – 2 x, FAIL – 3 x
Solange das Ergebnis in der Anzeige steht, kann mit dem optional erhältlichen Dräger Mobile Printer ein Messprotokoll erzeugt werden. Abgeschlossene Tests können aus dem Menü

neuten Messbereitschaft: 4 bis 30 Sekunden.
3.4 Zusätzliche Möglichkeiten der Probenahme
Die Funktionen können im Menü (siehe Kapitel 4 auf Seite 13) auch in
Kombination ein- oder ausgeschaltet werden.
3.4.1 Passive Probenahme
Bei der passiven Probenahme wird die Probenahme durch den Bediener des Gerätes manuell ausgelöst. Mögliche Anwendungen sind die
Prüfung der Umgebungsluft oder der Ausatemluft nicht kooperationsfähiger (z. B. bewusstloser) Personen auf die Anwesenheit von Alkohol.
Um eine passive Probenahme durchzuführen:
1. Gerät einschalten ( siehe Kapitel 3.2.7 auf Seite 10).
2. Das messbereite Gerät ohne Mundstück in die zu analysierende
Luft halten.
3. OK-Taste kurz drücken.

3.4.2 Manuelle Probenahme
Die Probenahme kann auch manuell ausgelöst werden, wenn der Proband das erforderliche Mindestvolumen nicht aufbringen kann.
1. Vorbereitung wie automatische Messung (siehe Kapitel 3.3 auf
Seite 10).
2. Wenn nach Beginn der Ausatmung "Atemprobe" in der Anzeige
erscheint, OK-Taste kurz drücken.
Bei der Ergebnisanzeige erscheint zusätzlich der Hinweis Manuell im Display.

Gerät einschalten. Nach Erscheinen von BEREIT oder bei der Anzeige des rotierenden Balkens können die Menüfunktionen aufgerufen
werden.

Das Gerät verbraucht auch im ausgeschalteten Zustand etwas
Strom. Deshalb bei längerer Nichtbenutzung die Batterie aus dem
Gerät nehmen.

Before using this product, carefully read the Instructions for Use.
Strictly follow the Instructions for Use. The user must fully
understand and strictly observe the instructions. Use the product
only for the purposes specified in the Intended use section of this
document.
Do not dispose of the Instructions for Use. Ensure that they are
retained and appropriately used by the product user.
Only trained and competent users are permitted to use this
product.
Comply with all local and national rules and regulations associated
with this product.
Only trained and competent personnel are permitted to inspect,
repair and service the product. Dräger recommends a Dräger
service contract for all maintenance activities and that all repairs
are carried out by Dräger.
Use only genuine Dräger spare parts and accessories, or the
proper functioning of the product may be impaired.
Do not use a faulty or incomplete product and do not modify the
product.
Notify Dräger in the event of any component fault or failure.
This device is neither approved nor certified for use in areas where
combustible or explosive gas mixtures are likely to occur.

Description
2.2 Intended use
The Dräger Alcotest® 68201) is used to quickly measure the alcohol
concentration in a person's breath. The device is suitable for portable
and battery-powered operation.
2.3 Device symbols and displays
The measured breath alcohol value is specified in the basic device
setting, in the unit of mg/L (= milligrams of ethanol per litre of breath).
The device can be converted to all common units of measurement.
2.3.1 Device symbols
In these Instructions for Use a number of symbols are used in
accordance with the message on the display of the device.

3.1 Prerequisites
The ambient air must be free from alcohol and solvent vapours
(disinfectants).
Keep sufficient distance to antennas of mobile phones and
transmitter sites.
3.1.1 Requirements of the test subject
Observe a waiting period of at least 15 minutes after the last oral
alcohol intake!
Residual alcohol in the mouth can distort the measurement. Even
aromatic beverages (e.
g. fruit juice), alcoholic mouth sprays,
medical juices and drops and, belching and vomiting may result in
false data. Also observe a waiting period of at least 15
minutes in
these cases. Rinsing the mouth with water or non-alcoholic drinks
does not replace the waiting time!
The test person should breathe regularly and calmly before the
sample is taken. Avoid breathing in and out quickly through the
mouth.
The test person must be capable of exhaling the minimum breath
volume of 1.2 l (works setting). For the test, the breath flow must
fall within a certain minimum exhalation time (works setting
2
seconds). The volume and the time can be changed via the
menu, if required.
3.2 Preparations for use
3.2.1 Inserting or replacing the batteries
1. Release the screw plug on the battery lid (e. g. using a coin) and
remove the battery lid.
2. Insert the batteries and make sure that the polarity is correct.
3. Close the battery lid and tighten the screw plug.
Required batteries:
2 x 1.5 V alkaline type (AAA, LR6, AA) or,
2 rechargeable batteries - 1.2 V NiMH (AAA, LR6, AA)
CAUTION
Explosion hazard!
Do not throw used batteries/rechargeable batteries into a fire
or open by force. Do not recharge alkaline batteries.
Batteries/rechargeable batteries must be disposed of in
accordance with local and national regulations.
Only use the charger indicated in the order list.
Only charge rechargeable NiMH batteries.
NOTICE
To ensure that the device can be used again immediately
after the alkaline batteries or the rechargeable NiMH batteries
are discharged, it is recommended to have replacement
batteries available.
Replace the batteries within 5 minutes, otherwise the save
time will be reset and must be set again.

3.2.2 Charging rechargeable NiMH batteries (optional)
Rechargeable NiMH batteries can be charged via a special power
source in the device.
Connect the charger (see section 12 on page 36) to the charging/
communication socket.
During the charging process that battery display pulses from
empty to full.
3.2.3 Fitting the wrist strap
1. Undo the screw plug on the
battery lid (e. g. using a coin)
and remove the battery lid.
2. Insert the eye supplied in the
opening and fix with the
screws (2x) supplied.
3. Guide the fastening lug of
wrist strap through the eye.
4. Pull the lower part of the wrist
strap through the strap.
5. Close the battery lid and
tighten the screw plug.
6. Pull the cord adjuster over
the wrist strap.
3.2.4 Fitting the wrist strap (optional)
1. Undo the screws of the
mouthpiece receptacle and
remove the mouthpiece
receptacle.
2. Undo the screw plug on the
battery lid (e.
g. using a coin)
and remove the battery lid.
3. Insert the upper eye of the
wrist strap in the upper
opening on the device.
4. Place the mouthpiece
receptacle on the device and
fix with the screws (2x).
5. Insert the bottom lug of the wrist strap in the bottom opening on the
device and fix with the screws (2x) of the wrist strap.
6. Close the battery lid and tighten the screw plug.

3.2.5 Replacing the mouthpiece receptacle
1. Undo the screws on the
mouthpiece receptacle.
2. Remove the mouthpiece
receptacle.
3. Insert new mouthpiece
receptacle on the device,
observe the desired
mouthpiece orientation.
4. Fix the mouthpiece
receptacle with screws (2x).
3.2.6 Attach the mouthpiece
1. Remove the mouthpiece from the packaging. For reasons of
hygiene, leave the protective wrapping around the mouth contact
area until the mouthpiece is firmly attached to the device.
With mouthpiece version A:

3.2.7 Switching the device on and off
To switch the device on:
Press and hold the OK key for approx.
1
second until the start window appears.
A self check is carried out.
Device information is displayed.
If the next service date has expired:
Have the device calibrated, see section 7 on page 32.
To switch the device off:
Press and hold the OK key.
The device will switch off after approx.
2 seconds.
3.3 Automatic measurements
With automatic measurement, the device takes the sample
automatically as soon as the test subject has given a breath sample
that is sufficient into the mouthpiece of the device and the end of the
breath sample has been recognised by the device.
To carry out an automatic measurement:
1. Insert a new mouthpiece into the holder (see section 3.2.6 on
page 26).
2. Switch on the device (see section 3.2.7
on page 27).
After approx. 2 seconds, READY will
appear on the display and a short
acoustic signal will sound. At the same
time the current test number is
displayed.
The light flashes green.
The device is ready to use.
3. Ask the test subject to blow into the mouthpiece evenly and
without interruption, as long as possible.
NOTICE
The device will switch off automatically approx. 4 minutes
after the last use.
When the batteries or rechargeable batteries are discharged,
the device switches off automatically – the battery symbol
flashes.

CAUTION
Do not allow any high alcohol concentrations on the sensor,
e. g., by rinsing the mouth with a high proof alcohol shortly

3.3.1 Carry out another measurement
Pressing the OK key will prepare a new

NOTICE
The measurement result is displayed with the corresponding
unit. The unit has been set to mg/L (milligrams
of ethanol per litre of breath) at the plant and can be changed
via the menu. In addition to the result of the measurement, an
acoustic signal is output, for instance:
PASS – 1 x, ALERT – 2 x, FAIL – 3 x
While the result is shown on the display, a measurement
protocol can be generated with the optional Dräger Mobile
Printer. Completed tests can be re-printed from the Last
Tests menu.

3.3.2 Errors when giving the breath sample
If the volume of the breath sample is too
small,

In the case of very irregular exhalation, e. g.
sudden termination or suction at the end of

3.4 Additional sampling options
The functions can be switched on or off in the menu (see section 4 on
page 30), also in combination.
3.4.1 Passive sampling
With passive sampling, the sampling is initiated manually by the device
user. Possible applications include the testing of ambient air or the
breath of uncooperative (e. g. unconscious) persons for the presence
of alcohol.
To carry out passive sampling:
1. Switch on the device (see section 3.2.7 on page 27).
2. Hold the device which is ready for measuring into the air to be
analysed, without a mouthpiece.
3. Briefly press the OK key.

3.4.2 Manual sampling
Sampling can also be triggered manually if the test subject cannot
produce the required minimum breath volume.
1. Preparation as for automatic measurement (see section 3.3 on
page 27).
2. When "Breath sample" appears on the display after exhalation has
begun, briefly press the OK key.

Device switches off automatically. Device has been ready to measure for longer than
4 minutes.
Switch the device back on.
(Rechargeable) batteries drained. Replace see section 3.2.1 on page 24 or
charge batteries.

8.1 Maintenance intervals

Check calibration.
8.2 Cleaning
For cleaning:
Wipe with a disposable cloth.
Do not use detergents that contain alcohol or solvents.

Do not store the device in environments which contain alcohol.
The device consumes power, also when switched off. Therefore,
remove the battery for extended disuse.

Dispose of the product in accordance with the applicable rules and
regulations.
