For your own safety it is essential to observe the above distances between the stove and
combustible or valuable objects e.g. furniture, panelling, wood etc. as well as structural walls
of steel reinforced concrete. The distance between the stove and non-combustible materials
or objects may be slightly less. These clearances are required for compliance with the
regulations applicable in Germany for fireplaces, stoves and other heating appliances.
In spite of compliance with the above safety clearances, the stove may cause discolouration
of sensitive materials in its vicinity e.g. wallpapers containing vinyl, textile or other structuring
substances. These discolourations are due to the quality of the materials and are not covered
by the guarantee. The specified safety clearances between the stove and inflammable or
valuable objects are intended only to prevent the outbreak of fire.

RATED THERMAL OUTPUT
The actual thermal output of a stove depends on the amount of fuel with which it is actually
stoked.
The "rule of thumb" is: 1 kg wood = 3 kW heat output.
The rated thermal output is stated on the plate attached to the stove. The rated thermal
output is the thermal output which is determined by testing a stove to EN standard and then
stated by the manufacturer. To achieve this rated output, a certain defined amount of fuel has
to be burned. This amount is stated in the data sheet "Technical Information".
THERMAL OUTPUT RANGE
Every wood burning stove has a range of thermal outputs. Your stove will also function
perfectly at ouputs which are less than the rated output. The high quality of DROOFF stoves
even permits outputs which are slightly higher than that rated. Less fuel means a lower
output, more fuel, a higher. This flexibility makes our stoves more economical. The thermal
output range is stated in the current instruction booklet.
Ensure that your stove is not overheated either for shorter or longer periods of time. Damage
caused by overheating is not covered by the guarantee. Please refer to the section entitled
"Guarantee". Always operate your stove according to the instructions and stoke it only with
the correct amounts of fuel i.e. no more than you need for your actual requirements. Do not
use only the air slides to control the heat emitted by the stove, but also vary the amount of
fuel you burn.
The stove is designed for intermittent use. Do not overheat it, even for short periods of time.

Depending on the quality of the fuel, the chimney and the weather conditions, it will take
approx. 30-45 minutes for one stoking of fuel to burn down. When it has burned down to the
red embers, the stove can be re-stoked.

After firing up, we recommend selecting the setting "maximum thermal output". This is the best
way to avoid unnecessary pollution. Do not use only the air slides to control the heat emitted by
the stove, but also vary the amount of fuel you burn. Use only as much fuel as you need
for your actual requirements. This improves the efficiency of the stove and helps protect he
environment. The position of the slides can be varied according to the chimney draught and
the weather conditions. Always ensure that the fire has enough air to burn down completely.

VENTILATION
At the lower rear side of the stove is a 100mm diameter hole that facilitates the entry of air
into the combustion chamber. If required, the combustion air requirements can be piped
to outside. Consideration should be given to wind affecting the outside terminal and the
possibility of condensation forming within the piping. Installation work for the ventilation
should always be carried out by a qualified engineer.
Attention! Danger by insufficient ventilation!
n Your dealer or qualified engineer will calculate and advise you on ventilation requirements.
n Do not obstruct ventilation openings or grilles.
n Specialist advice should be sought if you have any mechanical extraction either within the
heated room or adjacent rooms.
n Beware of aggressive chemicals being stored near ventilation openings or terminals.
Fluorine and chlorine solutions can and will cause corrosion.
n A lack of ventilation will seriously affect performance and combustion and is a serious
threat to life and health.
n A carbon monoxide alarm must be fitted on all installations and regularly checked.
n Ventilation openings should be checked and cleared of debris regularly.

AVOIDING MISTAKES
The stove does not draw in enough air or smokes when being re-stoked
Is the draught in the chimney too low?
Is there a leak in the stove pipe or the chimney? Are any connections leaking?
Does the stove pipe project into the chimney?
Is the door of another stove open which is connected to the same chimney?
Is the wood dry? Is it cut to the right size?
Is the deflection plate in the right position?
The stove does not give off enough heat
Is the room too big for the stove?
Is there too much ash on the grate?
Is the ash box full?
Is the stove pipe blocked?
Are primary or secondary air slides closed?
Is the connection between stove and chimney leaking?
Is the wood dry? Is it cut to the right size?

IMPORTANT NOTE
Damage to the stove caused by
non-compliance with these
instructions is not covered by
the guarantee.
The stove gives off too much heat
Are primary or secondary air slides open too far?
Is the door of the fire chamber closed properly?
Is the ash box closed properly?
Is the draught in the chimney too high?
Is there too much fuel on the fire?
The window becomes too sooty
Is the chimney draught ok? Soot deposits on the glass may be caused by chimney draught
which is too high or too low.
Are you using the right amount of fuel?
Is the wood dry? Is it cut to the right size?
Is the fire receiving enough air to burn with a bright flame?
Chimney on fire
The use of damp fuel or fuel of the wrong type may cause soot deposits in the chimney which
can ignite. In case of a chimney fire, close the primary and secondary air slides and the door
to the fire chamber. Call the fire service, heating engineer, chimney sweep. Before re-lighting
the fire, have the chimney inspected by a qualified engineer. Do not attempt to extinguish
the fire with water. This may cause an explosion of steam in the chimney, causing serious
damage to the building.
Alarm signals indicating chimney fire
n Unusual noises from the stove
n Chimney wall becomes hot
n Wallpaper becomes loose or falls off
n Unusual amounts of smoke
n Flames emerge from chimney
