1. Ensure that the spring is clean and structurally sound.
2. Measure the outer diameter of the spring at the
points where the compressor will be installed and
select two appropriately sized jaws.
− When compressing a standard coil spring, select a
matching colour pair of jaws.
− When compressing a conical spring, it may be
necessary to combine jaws of dierent colours.
Important: The extension bracket should be used
with the smaller of the two jaws; see 5.2.
4. Use the retaining screws to x the jaws to the
mounting points on the main body, ensuring that the
open faces are directed inwards.
5. Position the jaws around the spring, then use the
21mm spanner to rotate the hex drive clockwise and
tighten the jaws until they both contact the spring.
6. Check that the spring is seated correctly in both jaw
pieces, then continue tightening the jaws until the
spring is compressed as required.
CAUTION! DO NOT allow the spring windings
to touch or the compressor jaws to reach the
minimum or maximum limit of the tool’s range.
Observe the spring during operation to ensure
that it is compressed evenly.
7. To release the spring, carefully rotate the hex drive
anticlockwise until the spring can be removed from
between the jaws.
Important: DO NOT leave the spring in a compressed
state for any longer than is absolutely necessary.
5.2 Using the Extension Bracket
The extension bracket should be used to accommodate
the smaller jaw piece when a conical spring is
compressed and can be installed by screwing it between
the main body mounting points and the jaw piece.
