9. PROCEDURE AND APPLICATION GUIDE
Depending on manufacture and model, some engine components do change. Please check with
Autodata or the manufacturer’s data before use.
Preparation:
• Turn the engine to TDC on No1 cylinder
• Holding the crankshaft pulley with a suitable holding tool (Eldon E10800) loosen the
vibration damper fixing bolt by 180° (1/2 a turn).
• Remove the 2 engine front cover fixing bolts as identified in the instructions for component
A. VAG OEM instructions require these bolts to be replaced with new bolts.
WARNING: do not remove the bolt without putting component’s A in place as described
below.
Component A = Vibration damper holding tool:
After loosening the crankshaft vibration damper fixing bolt by 180° fit components A over the
vibration damper as shown and tighten the 2 fixing screws evenly so the holding tool sits
squarely on the pulley. Tighten fixing bolts hand tight. Once component A is fitted the damper
fixing bolt can be removed.
NOTE: the fixing screws for A are designed to screw into the angled front face of the engine.

9. PROCEDURE AND APPLICATION GUIDE
Component C = Crankshaft sprocket holding tool
Loosen off the end bolt of component C so the split collet components are fully retracted and
insert the assembly into the end of the crankshaft and screw it in as far as it will go. Turn the
end bolt clockwise so that the split collet components of C expand and grip the crankshaft
sprocket inside the engine. Now component A can be removed with the vibration damper.
Components B = Crankshaft sprocket holding tool adaptor
Fit component B as shown, ensure the larger tooth on component D corresponds with the
larger tooth on the crankshaft sprocket as shown by X.
Component D = Crankshaft sprocket holding tool nut
Fit the holding tool nut D and tighten. If required the crankshaft is now safe to turn by turning
the larger Hex of D. Only turn the engine over with the spark plugs removed.

9. PROCEDURE AND APPLICATION GUIDE
Fitting of Vibration Damper:
The fitting of the vibration damper is the reverse of the above process.
WARNING: it is very important not to remove component C until component A has been
re-installed.
