5.3 Connection to the Power Supply

This appliance is supplied with an approved plug and
cable for your safety. The value of the fuse tted is
marked on the pin face of the plug. Should the fuse need replacing, ensure the substitute is of the correct rating, approved to BS 1363/A and ASTA or BS Kite marked.
ASTA
BSI
The fuse can be replaced by removing the cover using a small plain slot screwdriver and removing the broken fuse from its holder. This should only be performed by
suitably qualied personnel.
If the power supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced with a special cable available from Draper Tools or its authorised service agent.
This is a Class I* product and is designed for connection to a power supply matching that detailed on the rating
label and compatible with the plug tted.
If an extension lead is required, use an approved and compatible lead rated for at least 10A that includes a protective earthing conductor. Follow all the instructions supplied with the extension lead.
If the plug must be connected in an outside environment, ensure that the outlet or extension lead is suitably designed for outside use.
Important: Always follow the extension lead instructions regarding maximum load while the cable is wound. If in doubt, unwind the entire cable. A coiled extension lead generates heat which could melt the lead and cause a
re.
Important: Draper Tools strongly recommends that this product is used with a residual current device (RCD), e.g. Draper Stock Nos. 69307 or 89301. ALWAYS read the manufacturer instructions for any RCD use. For your safety, if an extension cable is used, the RCD MUST be installed at the power outlet and not into the extension lead.
*Earthed: This product requires an earth connection to protect against electric shock from accessible conductive parts in the event of a failure of the basic insulation.

7. Operating Instructions

EN
Important: Before lifting any load, read and understand all the safety instructions listed in this manual.

7.1 Assembly

Important: ALWAYS assemble the product fully and pour the water into the boiler before connecting it to a power supply. The water level must remain above the MIN marking at all times while the steamer is switched on.
To assemble the wallpaper steamer:
1. Screw one end of the steam hose (C) onto the boiler
outlet (3).
(3)
(C)
1 Fig.
2. Screw the other end of the steam hose onto the steam
plate inlet (11).
3. Insert the power cable (D) into the power cable socket (6) on the rear of the boiler.
(6)
(D)
3 Fig.
Important: DO NOT connect the power cable to a
mains power supply at this time.

7.2 Checking plaster

Important: This product is also suitable for use on plaster and drywall surfaces. It is essential to check the condition of the plaster on each surface before you commit to the entire wall. Steam can loosen weak, porous or poorly bonded plaster, particularly if the plaster is cracking or contains holes, or the steam plate is held in the same position for an extended period.
It is often possible to detect weak plaster by tapping a few areas of the wall. If you hear a hollow sound, you should proceed with extreme care. Stop the operation immediately if you hear a cracking sound or the plaster begins to break loose.
Important: Always test the steamer on a small or discreet area of the wall and check for any damage before working on an entire surface.
(11)
2 Fig.
Important: Take care not to cross the threads or
overtighten the joints.

7.3 Operation

CAUTION! ALWAYS ensure that the power cable is disconnected from the power supply before preparing the steamer for operation and DO NOT connect it to the power supply until you are instructed to do so in this manual.
Important: Cover all nearby electrical outlets and
components before using the wallpaper steamer.
Important: ALWAYS test the steamer on a small area of
the wall rst to ensure that the wall will not be damaged
by the operation and to determine how long the steam plate should be held in place to separate the wallpaper.
– 11 –
7. Operating Instructions
Important: Some surfaces, such as carpets, soft furnishings and tabletops, may be damaged by the heat generated by the boiler. Draper Tools recommends that a
solid and at barrier (e.g. a wooden board) is placed
underneath the steamer to prevent damage to the surfaces beneath it.
1. Ensure that the power cable is not connected to a
power supply and position the steamer on a at, rm
and level surface, with the steam plate in a suitable heat-proof container.
Important: Ensure that the position of the boiler and
steam plate (8) will not result in damage while the water is heating up. If you are working at height, ensure that the steamer is secured and cannot move or fall.
2. Ensure that the boiler (1) is cool and twist the boiler
ll cap (2) anticlockwise to remove it.
(2)
4 Fig.
WARNING! Hot steam may be emitted from
the opening when the boiler ll cap is
removed. Take care when loosening and removing the cap.
3. Using a funnel, pour water (preferably warm) into the boiler ll opening until the desired level is indicated
on the water level gauge (10).
A higher water level will enable the steamer to operate
for longer.
(10)
5 Fig.
Important: DO NOT allow the water level rise above
the MAX marking or drop below the MIN marking at any time.
4. Insert the plug into a power outlet; the steamer will begin to heat up once the power outlet becomes active.
Important: Draper Tools recommends that an RCD
with an operating current of no greater than 30mA is installed into the power outlet to protect you from surges or shock.
5. Allow approximately 10 minutes for a full boiler of water to heat up.
Important: A small amount of hot bubbling water will
be expelled from the steam plate shortly before the water reaches temperature; this is normal.
6. For wallpaper that is heavily embossed, vinyl-coated or has been painted over, use a paper perforator or the corner of a wallpaper scraper to gently score the wallpaper with large crosses approximately 150mm apart.
7. Starting at the edge, hold the open face of the steam plate against the wallpaper for approximately 10 seconds.
Important: ALWAYS hold the steam plate by the
handle.
WARNING! Be mindful of water dripping from the steam plate and NEVER work on areas directly above your head. NEVER allow steam or condensation to access electrical outlets or components.
– 12 –
7. Operating Instructions
EN
8. Move the steam plate to the area immediately beside the steamed patch and hold it in place for another 10 seconds.
In your other hand, use a wallpaper scraper to loosen
and detach the wallpaper from the area steamed rst.
9. Repeat this process across the surface until the water level drops to the MIN marker on the water level gauge (10).
Important: DO NOT overreach and ensure that the
product remains level throughout the operation. Stretching and overreaching may cause the product to tip and bypass the thermal overload safety feature; see 7.5 Thermal Overload.
10. To rell the boiler once the MIN marker has been reached, see 7.4 Relling the Boiler During Operation.
Important: NEVER use the steamer continuously for
more than two hours as this will cause the steamer to boil dry.
11. When complete, disconnect the power cable from the
power supply and allow at least ve minutes for it to cool before removing the ll cap and draining the
boiler.
Important: Where the wallpaper is thicker than average or there are multiple layers of paper, the steam plate may need to be held in place for longer in order to separate the paper from the wall. Always test the surface in a small
or discreet area rst to familiarise yourself with the time
needed to loosen the wallpaper.
WARNING! Be aware of hot water accumulating in the steam plate as it may cause burns if it comes into contact with your skin.
7.4 Relling the Boiler During Operation
WARNING! NEVER attempt to rell the boiler
while the product is connected to an active power supply. ALWAYS disconnect the unit from
the power outlet and allow at least ve minutes for it to cool before removing the boiler ll cap.
To determine whether the boiler (1) has cooled
suciently, check the weight of the unit. If the boiler
feels light after the cooling period, the pressure has dropped and it is safe to open. If the boiler feels heavy,
there is still signicant pressure inside the unit and it
must continue to cool before it can be opened.
Try again after approximately 10 minutes if the outside of the boiler is cool to the touch.
When the boiler feels empty, carefully unscrew the boiler
ll cap (2). If steam can be heard escaping from the unit,
stop immediately and allow a further 10 minutes for the
boiler to cool before continuing. Use a funnel to rell the
boiler as required.
Important: Be wary of any residual water in and around
the boiler and ll cap as it may still be hot enough to
scold.

7.5 Thermal Overload

The water acts as a coolant that prevents the element from reaching unsafe temperatures while the product is switched on.
CAUTION! The element MUST remain completely submerged throughout the heating up, operation, and cool down periods.
The product is tted with a thermal overload safety feature that automatically switches the unit o if it
detects that the temperature of the heater element exceeds 115°C. This may occur if the product is switched on and there is too little water in the boiler.
If the thermal overload feature is activated, allow at least
two minutes for the element to cool before relling the
boiler with water. Allow a further 15 minutes for the thermal overload feature to rest before using the product.
Important: It is possible to bypass the thermal overload feature by tipping the steamer if part of the element remains submerged but other areas are exposed. These exposed areas may still heat to abnormal temperatures and damage the unit. Damage caused by an exposed element is not covered under your Draper Tools warranty. Avoid stretching and overreaching as this may cause the steamer to tip and expose the element even if there is still water in the boiler.
– 13 –
