GENERAL INFORMATION
This manual describes the purpose for which this tool has been designed and contains all the necessary information to ensure its correct and safe use.We recommend that this manual is read before any operation of the machine, before performing any kind of adjustment to the machine, and prior to any maintenance tasks. By following all the general safety instructions contained in this manual, it will ensure both machine and operator safety, together with longer life of the tool itself.
All photographs and drawings in this manual are supplied by Draper Tools to help illustrate the operation of the machine.

GUARANTEE
Draper Garden Power tools have been carefully tested and inspected before shipment and are guaranteed to be free from defective materials and workmanship for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase except where tools are hired out when the guarantee period is ninety days from the date of purchase.
Should the machine develop any fault, please return the complete tool to your nearest authorized warranty repair agent or contact Draper Tools Limited, Hursley Road, Chandler’s Ford, Eastleigh, Hampshire, SO53 1YF. England.

If upon inspection it is found that the fault occurring is due to defective materials or workmanship, repairs will be carried out free of charge. This guarantee applies in lieu of any other guarantee expressed or implied and variations of its terms are not authorized.
Your Draper guarantee is not effective unless you can produce upon request a dated receipt or invoice to verify your proof of purchase within the 12 month period.

POWER SUPPLY
CHARGING:
This battery was discharged after manufacturing for testing and will therefore require five to ten charges/discharges before it reaches full capacity.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS FOR RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES:
Do not expose to rain or water. Do not overcharge the battery (more than 24 hours) as this may damage the battery cells. Ensure that the battery pack is not exposed to direct sunlight, domestic heaters or other sources of heat. Temperatures of more than 40ºC and high moisture levels will damage the battery pack.
HEALTH AND SAFETY FOR BATTERY PACKS: General
Do not put in a fire or mutilate - the cells may burst or release toxic materials. Do not short circuit the cells as they may cause burns.
Disposal
Do not mutilate the batteries as corrosive electrolyte will be released. Do not incinerate - danger of explosion and toxic fumes will be released. Do not dispose of batteries or cell when they are in charged condition. Expired nickel-cadmium batteries must be recycled/disposed of in accordance with the appropriate regulations legislation. They should be returned to your local warranty agent/stockist.

USER INSTRUCTIONS
This grass trimmer was designed for trimming grass and weeds under or around fences, trees, steps, paved paths, walls, bushes or hedges.The grass trimmer is not suitable for trimming large areas laid to grass.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
1. Before starting the machine for the first time, read the instructions for use carefully and acquaint yourself with the way of using the machine. Pay attention to all cautions and safety instructions and follow all instructions in order to avoid injuries. Store the instructions for use carefully for later reference.
2. The high speed of rotation of this grass trimmers moving parts represent a risk. This is why special precautions must be taken when operating the grass trimmer.
3. Before preforming any work on the grass trimmer, take out the battery.
4. Never leave the grass trimmer unattended. During break periods in your work, take out the battery.
5. Keep away from children. Young people must not operate the grass trimmer. Only give or lend the machine to such persons who are generally acquainted with the manner of handling this type of machine. In addition, give them the manual with the instructions for use.
6. Any person who uses the grass trimmer must be healthy and in a good physical condition ­if tied take a break! Do not work under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
7. When operating the grass trimmer, always wear suitable protective clothes such as protective glasses, gloves, protective means for ears, firm shoes and tight-fitting clothing.
8. Do not use the grass trimmer if there are other persons or domestic animals near the machine.
9. Only use the grass trimmer during daylight.
10. Make sure you have a firm standing position. Hold the grass trimmer with both hands and work with a clear path.
11. Do not make any changes to the grass trimmer. Do not replace the nylon spool with a wire. This would create a danger to the user. The manufacturer excludes any liability for any damages caused by using the machine in conflict with its purpose or caused by inadmissible changes.
12. Never use the grass trimmer with missing or defective components. The protective cover must be installed in such a way so that it is between the user and the cutting head.
13. Each time before using the grass trimmer, check the grass trimmer parts are not worn or damaged, and if necessary, have any repairs carried out.
14. Keep your hands and legs away from the grass trimmer, particularly when the motor is running.
15. Remember the grass trimmer still runs for some time after releasing the trigger.
16. Handle the blade for cutting the nylon spool off with care in order to avoid injury. After replacing the spool or extending it, make sure you always put the machine in the normal operating position before turing it on.
17. Clean the ventilation openings of grass and dirt.
18. Never work when it is raining or when the grass is wet in order to prevent water from getting inside the grass trimmer.
19. Take out the battery whenever transporting the grass trimmer - even if carrying the grass trimmer to another place to use.
20. Be careful when using the machine on slopes and uneven ground; there is a risk of slipping or stumbling!
21. Be careful of foreign bodies in the grass and remove them.
22. Check the trimming head at regular intervals checking for cracks or damage. If the head is defective, have it replaced immediately. A defective trimming head must not be repaired.
23. Watch for marked changes such as vibrations and noises. If such a change takes place, turn off the grass trimmer immediately and take out the battery before further inspection.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING THE BATTERY
1. When the grass trimmer is delivered, the replaceable battery is not charged. Before starting the machine for the first time, the battery must be charged.
2. The battery will reach full capacity only after being charged and discharged approx. 5 times.
3. You must never open the battery.
4. Never throw the used battery in fire - Risk of explosion!
5. Only connect the battery charger to a mains voltage which matches the stated voltage.
6. Use only the original battery.
7. Never charge the battery with a battery charger from other manufacturers. This can result in the battery being damaged or it can result in an injury due to over heating.
8. During long-term operation, the battery may heat up. Let it cool down before charging it.
9. Do not store the battery charger and the battery within reach of children.
10. Do not use the battery charger in an environment with vapours or inflammable fluids.
11. Only charge the battery at a temperature within the range of 10°C to 40°C.
12. Never store the battery at a temperature over 40°C.
13. Never short-circuit the contacts of the battery and never interconnect with metal objects.
14. When transporting the battery, take care that the contacts are not interconnected, do not use metal transportation containers.
15. Short-circuit of the battery can lead to explosion. In any case, the short-circuit connection will damage the battery.
16. Check the battery chargers cable regularly on whether it is damaged. If the cable is damaged, have it replaced.
17. Never discharge the battery up to the point when the grass trimmer completely stops to operate.
18. Before storing the battery for the wintertime, charge them fully once more.
DISPOSAL OF BATTERY
Please observe the following directions for the disposal of your battery.
Batteries are not to be put into the rubbish. As a consumer you are legally obliged to return used battery. At the end of the working life of your grass trimmer, the battery has to be taken from the grass trimmer, disposing of them separately.
You have the option of delivering your old battery to the local collection points, to your dealer or to the distribution centre.

To take out the battery, press both push­buttons on the sides designated with the number ✕✌ and take out the battery. (Fig.1.)
Connect the battery charger to the socket. Make sure that the voltage stated on the battery charger corresponds with the mains voltage.
Insert the battery in the charger. Attention: the battery can only be inserted in the charger in one position. (Fig.2.)
Power to the charger is indicated with a red light. The green light indicates that the battery charger is charging correctly.
Please, pay attention to the following statement: the battery charger does not turn off automatically. Therefore keep checking the charging period has not completed.
The period of charging is approximately 5 hours. Longer period of charging can damage your battery. During the process of charging, the battery heats up. This is normal and it indicates no defect.
If the charging light indicator is not lit up, check if there is electric current at the socket. If the charging of a battery is not possible, give the battery charger and the battery to a service centre. As an optional accessory, you can obtain a fast-charging unit with the charging period of approx. 1 hour.
WARNING: Never discharge the batteries completely, up to the point when the grass trimmer completely stops to operate. If you observe marked decrease in the speed of rotation when operating the grass trimmer, you should turn off the machine and charge the battery. If you charge a partially discharged battery, an effect which is called the memory effect can take place. This means that the battery will not attain its full capacity again and the operational period will be reduced.The battery can be regenerated as follows: Operate the grass trimmer until you
observe marked decrease in the speed of rotation and then charge the battery according to the instructions. Repeat this procedure for 4 or 5 times. The battery then usually regains its original capacity.
INSTALLATION OF THE PROTECTIVE COVER (FIG.3.)
Install the protective cover on the machine in such a way so that it is ✪✌ at an angle of 90° towards your own position.The projecting part is now on the right side. Make sure that the protective cover is pushed firmly on the cover of the cutting head. Rotate the protective cover in the guiding groove by 90° to put it into its final position until the locking part clips in.
Fix the protective cover with the supplied screw ✫✌.

OPERATING THE GRASS TRIMMER (Fig.4.)
There is only one way of inserting the battery. Insert the charged battery in to the grass trimmer until both side push-buttons lock in.
Take a safe standing position. Hold the grass trimmer with both hands. Do not put the cutting head on the ground.
Press switch ✕✌to start the machine. Release the switch to stop the machine.
ADJUSTING THE SPOOL (Fig.5.)
Whenever the cutting performance decreases, it is necessary to adjust (to extend) the nylon spool.
Turn the grass trimmer on and hold it above the grass.
With the motor running, knock the head on the grass. The spool will automatically extend and the cutting device will reduce it down to the correct length.
NOTE: If the spool is shorter than 2.5cm, it is necessary to adjust it manually. Remove the battery, press the red push-button on the coil until it reaches the stop and pull the end of the spool. If you cannot see the end of the spool at all, proceed as described in the next section.
REPLACING THE NYLON SPOOL (Fig.6 & 7.)
Take the battery out of the grass trimmer and turn the machine around.
Take hold of the cover ✕✌(Fig.6.).
Push both tabs in the direction indicated by the arrow (Fig.6.).
Turn the locking part ✖✌ anti-clockwise (Approximately by 2cm) and take it off.
Take the coil with the spool ✗✌ out of the locking part (Fig.6.).
Pull the end of the spool through the opening in the locking part (Fig.7.).
Fit the new spool in the locking parts.
Mount the locking part with the new spool on the cover and lock it in by rotating it clockwise. The click of both tabs must be audible.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR OPERATING THE GRASS TRIMMER (Fig.8.)
Move the grass trimmer evenly from one side to another.
If possible, trim by using the left half of the grass trimmer.The cut parts of plants and debris will be thrown forward and away from the operator.
You will attain the best result if you hold the machine inclined forward at an angle of approximately 20°- 30°.
Avoid contact between the nylon spool and obstacles such as fences, walls, stones, etc. This leads to excessive wear and tear.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR SETTING THE LENGTH AND ANGLE OF THE CUTTING HEAD (Fig.9, 10 and 11.)
To make the work position comfortable, the grass trimmer is provided with the possibility of changing the length of the metal tube.
Press the push-button ✕✌(Fig.9.) and shift the handle into the required position.
There are 3 different length settings available. Make sure that the push-button clicks in again to lock.
For cutting edges, the handle of the grass trimmer can be rotated by 90° (Fig.10).
Press the push-button ✕✌ (Fig.9.) and rotate the handle by 90°. Make sure that the push-button clicks in again.
It is further possible to position the cutting head 3 different angles so that, for example, you could work under bushes.
Press the push-button ✗✌ (Fig.11). The cutting head can be positioned at 3 different angles of inclination.
The upper handle can also be adjusted according to the operating person’s height.
Press the push-button ✖✌ (Fig.9.) and shift the handle into the required position.
MAINTENANCE AND CARE
Clean your battery-operated grass trimmer thoroughly each time after you use it. Remove the grass and dirt. Clean the ventilation openings. It is best to clean the plastic parts with a damp cloth and a soft detergent. Never use aggressive detergents or solvents. Do not pour water into the machine and do not sprinkle it with water. Store the grass trimmer in a dry place, never expose it to frost and keep it out of children’s reach. For more extensive maintenance or repairs, give the grass trimmer to the service centre.
