Parts Guide
Your Dolphin Whole House ltration unit is shipped in (2) separate boxes. The filter unit is contained in one box and the valve in another. The Valve box contains the Automatic Valve, Bypass valve, and an Upper Distributor screen to be attached to bottom of valve prior to installation. You will need either an 1” or ¾” MPT adaptor to hook up the pipes to the bypass. Your Automatic valve will plug into any standard 110V power socket. The automatic valve has an internal computer that will retain the proper time for approximately up to 12 hours of power loss. See valve operation instructions on page 14.

Page 5
Location of Filter Unit
The purpose of a point of entry unit is to filter all the incoming water into the home and therefore should be installed as close as possible to where the water enters the home. On municipal water systems the filter should be located after the water meter and before the water heater. On well water systems the filter should be located after the pressure tank and before the water heater.
The lter is to be installed
on the COLD water line only.
Allow 15 feet minimum of piping length between the filter and the water heater. If this is not possible, install a check valve in the water supply line between the filter and the hot water heater to prevent hot water from backing up into the filter.
To ensure the proper operation, a minimum of 20 psi is necessary. Maximum operating pressure is 120 psi. 100oF is max temp for tank and valve.

DO NOT SUBJECT THE UNIT TO
FREEZING CONDITIONS.
Locate an installation spot where the unit can be installed so that it can be easily removed for servicing. Avoid trying to “squeeze” the unit in between the hot water heater and furnace for example.
This unit must be kept from freezing! If installing outside, keep the unit from being exposed to direct sun light and protect valve from the weather as well as keeping it from freezing.
The valve will require a standard 110V AC outlet to plug into and a drain access for the back wash drain line capable of handling a flow of up to 5 GPM.
The back wash drain line can consist of either pipe or semi-rigid hose and must allow an unrestricted flow to a drain capable of handling a discharge of up to 5 GPM for 15 minutes. It is recommended to use a drain hose of at least ½” ID or larger. Drain lines running more than 30 feet should be of ¾” ID minim. If using soft tubing (vinyl) make sure not to kink hose so not to reduce ow during backwash.
IMPORTANT
If you purchased multiple tanks and/or Polishing Filter, follow this installation order:
Connect untreated water rst to:
1. Dolphin Heavy Medal Fluoride
2. Dolphin VOC
3. Polishing Filter (if purchased)

Installation Instructions
Place the tank in the spot you wish to install it. Remove the black shipping cap from top of filter and then remove plastic bag/sleeve covering riser tube located inside the filter. (Plastic bag shipping sleeve is covered with red tape)
Next install the plastic upper distributor onto the bottom portion of backwash valve. Push the upper distributor into base and twist clockwise.
CAUTION! on installing VALVE onto tank
BE CAREFUL not to cross thread the valve when installing
it onto tank. A procedure to help prevent cross threading is to rotate the valve backwards (counter clockwise) while lowering the valve onto the tank until you can feel the first threads ”click” over each other then screw valve onto tank. Use caution to keep the valve straight while lowering onto the riser tube. By keeping the valve straight while lowering, you will allow the tube to stay centered on the valve, and the insertion of the tube up into the valve center body will be easier. As the riser tube enters the valve body it will be gripped by an “O” ring located in the bottom of the valve, where at that time the valve lowering/rotation will feel a little snug as the valve is lowered toward thread engagement. Once the tank threads and valve threads meet, you will hear a light click while rotating the valve backwards. You now may begin to rotate the valve clockwise until it is hand tight. Do not over tighten.

Next make sure the by-pass valve is securely fastened to the back of the valve. Take notice to the inlet and outlet markings (arrows) located on the valve so that it will be plumbed in properly.
The by-pass valve is clearly marked by two arrows. One arrow is pointing toward the valve (this is the “IN”) and another is pointing away from the unit (this is the “OUT ). The handle(s) should be aligned in the same direction as the piping when water is flowing IN and OUT of the unit – This is also referred to the “Service” position during filter use and in the “By-Pass” position during installation and maintenance. In the bypass position the handles are perpendicular to the water pipe flow.
PLACE BOTH HANDLES IN THE “BYPASS” POSITION PRIOR TO INSTALLATION.
During the installation process, position the lter where you want it installed, then measure and modify piping as required.
DO NOT APPLY HEAT TO ANY FITTINGS CONNECTED TO THE FILTER BYPASS/VALVE. Heat will damage the plastic ttings.
Use only “lead free” solder when soldering copper pipe.
When installing back wash drain line use an air gap procedure if installing over a floor drain. Use extreme caution if running drain line into a deep sink as should the sink becomes clogged/blocked flooding could result. It is recommended to run drain line into a drain similar to a washing machine drain standpipe. It is recommended to use a semi-ridged plastic tubing such as a polyethylene or similar tubing. Vinyl hose is not recommended as it tends to collapse with age and restrict the back wash flow. If using PVC or copper pipe for the backwash drain line you must install a union on the drain line near the back of the valve for easy disconnect of the drain line during servicing.

To Place Tank in Service
After all plumbing is finished (including the back wash drain line) restore water pressure to home while the unit bypass valve is still in the “by-pass” position. This will enable you to insure there are no leaks in the piping before adding water to the tank.
INITIAL RINSE: Do not run water in any part of the house during the initial rinse procedure
Next, plug in unit to a nearby 110V/ac outlet. (See page 14 for “QUICK SET UP GUIDE”)
Initiate the backwash on the valve by depressing the Extra Cycle button for 3-5 seconds.
The valve will cycle into the back wash position cycle #1 and begin counting down the minutes remaining in cycle 1. Next slowly open only the inlet valve knob of the by-pass valve, only to 1/3rd the way open, so that the water may SLOWLY fill the tank. This procedure allows the media to hydrate slowly and will take about 15 minutes. You will observe air, water and carbon fines coming from the drain line.
Immediately after opening the inlet valve 1/3rd of the way unplug the valve from the wall socket so the unit will remain in cycle #1 (1st backwash) until it is plugged back in. If you leave it plugged in it will automatically move to the next cycle before the filter media is properly hydrated.

Page 10
Next plug the valve electrical cord back in and allow the unit to complete the remaining cycles.
After the last cycle has completed, initiate another complete back wash by depressing the “Backwash” button for 3-5 seconds and let the unit run through the complete cycle.
AT THIS TIME OPEN THE OUTLET PORTION OF THE BY-PASS VALVE SO FILTERED WATER WILL FLOW INTO THE HOME.
It is not uncommon to experience air and small carbon fines in your water during the first few days after installation. Occasionally in systems with high water pressure it is also not uncommon to experience fines immediately after the periodic backwash cycle takes place. Should you have a water system with high water pressure it is recommended to install our optional 5 Micron Sediment Filter (Part #7504) after your Dolphin Whole Home Filtration filter. This polishing filter will trap the fines generated during the backwash cycle.
Should you have any questions pertaining to the installation of your unit, please call Technical Support at 866.321.3116.
Should you experience a loss of water pressure it is recommended to initiate a backwash by depressing the “extra cycle” button for 3-5 seconds. This should restore any pressure loss if the loss is due to the filter becoming clogged. The By-pass valve is to be kept in the “service” position. Should you experience any problems with your system you may place the by-pass valve in the “bypass” position until the problem can be fixed.

Remember, the Dolphin Whome Home Water System is designed for the expressed purpose of reducing taste, order, sediment and various organic chemical compounds found in the water. Due to varying water conditions it may be necessary to install additional water treatment equipment. (iron removal, bacterial problems, or pH imbalance, for example).
For healthy, clean water it is recommended you have your water tested annually. Consult your Life Ionizer’s Water Professional for details. (888) 688-8889 / sales@lifeionizers.com
A Word About Filter Operation:
Incoming water is dispersed initially in the top of the filter by the upper distributor. The water travels downward through a void area which is called “freeboard” (approximately 25 - 35% of filter bed depth). The water then passes through the filter media and is returned up through the center riser tube and is routed through the valve to the “out” fitting.

Page 12
A Word About Back Flush:
Your Dolphin Whole Home Water System is supplied with an automatic back flush valve. This valve enables you to extend the life of the media by:
1. The removal of sediment which has been collected.
2. Repositioning the media, which will then realign the ineffective saturated surface area with a fresh and effective surface to better remove contaminants.
3. Filter life is not extended by removal of adsorbed organic material. The “fluffing” action which takes place will not remove adsorbed organic material since the bonding process is not distributed by backwashing.
4. The fluffing process (backwash) is controlled by the backwash assembly valve. It re-routes the water down the center riser tube and is distributed by the gravel bed at the bottom of the tank which allows for even distribution from this reverse flow. The now upward flow will gently agitate the media thus accomplishing the sediment removal (out through the upper distributor) and the “re-shuffling” of the media itself. This action is governed directly by the back flow rate and it is controlled by a restrictor placed in the backwash portion of the valve.

To Place Tank in Bypass
IMPORTANT- - - Placing the unit in bypass
Should there be a loss of water pressure in your home caused by the filter, initiate a backwash by depressing the “extra cycle” button and running a complete backwash through all 4 cycles. Should this not correct the pressure loss, place BOTH bypass valve knobs into the bypass position and call your water dealer. The two knobs are located directly behind your automatic valve where your cold water pipes enter the unit. The knobs will only rotate 90 from full service to full bypass. If using a tool to assist turning valves, use caution not to turn the wrong way- you could damage the bypass valve!
Note:
Placing the bypass valve into the bypass position will bypass both the filter tank and filter valve. The water entering the home will no longer be filtered.

Automatic Backwash Valve Quick Set-Up Guide
Your Dolphin Whole Home System’s automatic backwash valve has four cycles (a double backwash and a double rinse). The valve control has a “child proof” conguration which requires the depressing of the required setting button for a 3-5 second period before being able to change any setting. This feature prevents “accidental” changing of the settings.
Basic Operations
A BLUE status light indicates all is normal. The LED window will normally be indicating the “Time of day”.
A GREEN status light indicates when the unit is in a Backwash (regeneration) mode, unless an error condition exists. (LED will
indicate which cycle is in operation).
A RED status light illuminates when there is an error condition.
For normal day to day valve operation you will see the Blue light and the LED time of day window will indicate the following: “SRV” telling you the valve is “In Service”, the Time of Day, and how many days until the next “REGEN” (Backwash) will take place.
If the “time of day” is blinking, it is an indication there was a power interruption to the valve. The reason the time is blinking is to draw your attention to this fact, and is asking you to verify that the time displayed on the LED is correct. If it is correct, press either the up or down button one time. If the time is not correct, see “Set Time of Day” below. The valve computer is capable of keeping the correct time of day for up to 12 hours of power loss. However, the valve itself will not function without power.

To Set Time of Day
To change the TIME press either the “up” or the “down” arrow for 3-5 seconds. You then can adjust the time by pressing the (up) ^ or v (down) button once for each minute you wish to change. After you set the time, the main display will automatically reappear in approximately 15 seconds.
When Did the Last Backwash Occur?
The D when pressed will indicate the last two times the valve completed a backwash cycle. When you first press the D you
will get an indication of when the last backwash occurred.
Pressing the after first pressing the D will indicate the previous backwash. Pressing the D a second time will put the
“Time of Day” display back onto the LED.
To Initiate an Extra Backwash Cycle
Press the “extra cycle” button for 3-5 seconds (keep button
pressed until you see the screen change). The unit will go
through all four cycles; each cycle time is pre-set at the factory.
You may skip a particular cycle by pressing the extra cycle button
any time the unit is in a cycle you wish to skip.
(Cycle (1) =1st backwash - Cycle (2) = 1st rinse – Cycle (3)=2nd backwash -
Cycle (4) =2nd rinse).

To set Backwash Frequency (in DAYS) and Backwash Time of Day
The Dolphin Whole Home System’s factory valve setting for a Backwash to occur is once every 10 days with a start time at 2:00 am.
NOTE: IF YOU HAVE TWO OR MORE AUTOMATIC BACKWASH TREATMENT UNITS: SET THE BACKWASH START TIME SO THAT THE UNITS WILL NOT BE BACKWASHING AT THE SAME TIME (e.g. Set UNIT 1 for a 2:00 am start and UNIT 2 for a 3:00 am start).
To Change Backwash frequency (currently set to backwash every 10 days)
To reset how many days between each backwash and also
to set the time of day that the back wash will take place you
will need to press BOTH the “up” AND the “down”
arrows AT THE SAME TIME for 3-5 seconds (until the
screen changes). You will see a new screen which says
“REGENERATION DAY OVERIDE” and “10 DAYS”. Press-
ing either the up or down button will increase or decrease
the number of days between automatic backwashes.
To Change Backwash Time of Day
To change backwash time you must do so while you are
still in the “REGENERATION DAY OVERIDE”. While you are
in the “REGENERATION DAY OVERIDE” setting press the
“EXTRA CYCLE BUTTON . This brings up the backwash
time. You then may change the backwash time by pressing
either up ^ or v down arrow to change the time of day the
unit will backwash.
