ABOUT THE REMOTE CONTROL
• This remotecontrol gives youeasyaccess to the featuresof DISH
Network
• You can set up the remote to control as many as three devices
alongwith the receiver. These may be TVs, VCRs, DVD players, cable TV boxes, tuners, or audio amplifiers.
• This remote can be used with both IR only and IR/UHF receivers
(a UHF receiver has an antenna attached to its back panel).
• This remotecannotbe used with the DISH Network Model 7100/
7200 (DishPlayer)receiver.
• On most non-DishPVR receivers, the SKIP BACK button is now the SYSTEM INFORMATION button.
• With a DishPVR receiver, the DVR List, PTV List or PVR list button functions as the PVR button. Pressing it when the remote is in SAT mode will open the PVR Recorded Events menu.

• With the JVC Model HM-DSR100-D-VHS, wh en the remote is in SAT mode, the VCR buttons function as labelled. For example, PLA Y will start playing a videotape, STOP will stop the tape, etc.
• When this remoteis used with a DishPVR receiver,pressingthe POUND (#) Button opens the Alpha Search menu.
IF YOUR RECEIVER DOES NOT RESPOND TO THIS
REMOTE
It may be that the receiver’s address was changed and is no longer set to #1. This is important because if the receiver and remote are not set to thesameaddress,theremotecannotcontrolthereceiver.
To check the receiver ’saddress, turn offthereceiver (leave the TV on), and press the System Information or Info button on the front panel to open the Important System Informationscreen. If the receiver does not have such a button, pull the Smart Card to open the Important System Information screen. If theremote address is not 1, you will need to change address (see page 23 for instructions).

Remote Control Modes
REMOTE CONTROL SIGNALS
The remote control uses both Infra-Red (IR) light and UHF signals to control the satellite receiver and other devices.
• IR light travels only short distances (40 feet or less), and cannot go throughwalls or other solidobjects. Youmustpoint the remote control directly at the device, with no objects blocking the signal path.
• UHF signals can go through walls but IR signals can’t. To use UHF signals to control the receiver, the receiver must have a UHF antenna attached to it

back panel.
HOW TO INSTALL THE
BATTERIES
When you replace old batteries, you should replace all of the batteries. Use batteries of thesamekind,for example, alkaline or carbon zinc, and do not mix batteries of different kinds. Alkaline batteries last longer .
1.Pressdownontheslotinthebattery cover (on the back of the remote control)and slide the cover off.
2.Remove all of the old batteries.
3.Insert the new batteries. Make sure to match the plus (“+”) ends with the plus markings on the battery case.
4.Put thebattery cover back on by sliding it back up into place.
REMOTE CONTROL MODES
To use the remote to control a device, do t he following:

(unless the receiver’s address is not 1, in which case you will need to change its address per the instructions on page 23).
1.For a device other than the receiver, set up the remote to control the device. See How to Set Up the Remote t o Control Other Devices on page 18 for instructions.
2.Use the remote control mode buttons to control the satellite receiver (SAT),aTV, VCR,andAUX devices (a cableTV box, a tuner, or an audio amplifier) devices. Tochange themodesetting, press the button for the device you want the remote to control.
3.The mode button’s backlight flashes once to show the remote is settothatmode.
HOW TO USE THE BUTTONS
SAT (SATELLITE RECEIVER)MODE
• Some of the features described below may not
apply to your receiver. See the receiver User
Guide for details about the r eceiver’s features. Only the remote control buttons described in this
sectionworkinSAT mode.
• There are two buttons reserved for functions that
may be added in the future for certain receivers. These are Skip Ahead and DVR (or PTV) List. For DishPVR receivers, these buttons function as Skip Ahead and PVR, respectively.
• On non-DishPVR receivers, the Skip
Back button will work as the System Information button.
SAT MODE BUTTON
You must press the SAT mode button to set the r emote to SAT mode. The SAT mode button’s back light goes on briefly to show the remote is set to SAT mode. Make sure t he remote is in SAT mode to use the buttonsdescribed below.

How to Use the Buttons
AUX M
You can use this button to turn the television on or off without leaving SAT mode. However, to do this, you must set up the remote to control the television and not setitupinAUXmode to controlanother device. (See page 18 for information on setting up the remote to control other devices.)
ODE BUTTON FOR TV POWER
TV/VIDEO BUTTON
If you connectanother signal such as cable or a TV antenna to the receiver’s TV ANTENNA/ CABLE IN port on the back panel,you can use this button to switch the receiver between the satellite signaland the other signal. If the TV has video format options, use this button to switch the TV among those options. For example, if the TV supports High Definition (HD) video, use this button to switch the satellite receiver between HD mode and Standard Definition (SD) video mode while using an EchoStar HDTV capable receiver.
VOLUME BUTTON
Some DISHNetwork satellite receivers havetheirownvolumecontrol. For those that do, you can press this button (+) to raise the sound level or (-) to lower the sound level.
Note: If the remote is programmed to control a TV, pressing this buttontoraise or l ower the sound volume,will raise or lowerthesound
volume of the TV.
MUTE BUTTON
Some DISH Network receivers have their own Mute control.For those that do, you can press this button to mute the satellite receiver’s sound.

Note: If the remote is programmed to control a TV, pressing this button will mute the sound of the TV.
POWER BUTTON
Press this button to turn the receiver on or off. The green POWER light on the receiver front panel lights up to show the receiver is on, and goes out to show the receiver is off.
MENU BUTTON
Press this button to open the Main Menu.
PAGE UP AND PAGE DOWN
Press the PAGE UP button or the PAGE DOWN button to scan,page by page, through the Program Guide,aThemes menu, a Fa vorite List, an Event Timers list, or a list of channels.
Note: With the JVC Model HM-DSR100-D-VHS, Page Up will Fast Forward the videotape, and Page Down will rewind the tape, except when you are in the Program Guide. In this case, these buttons will function as PAGE UP and PAGE DOWN.

Press this button to open the Program Guide. When the Program Guide is open, continue pressing this button to switch among your
Favorite Lists.

UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT

• When you are in a menu, press these buttons to move the highlight to an option.
• When you watch a program, press the UP or DOWN button to change channels on the satellite receiver.
• When you watch a program, press theRIGHT button to open the Browse Banner.
• When you have the Browse Banner open, press the UP or DOWN buttontoseetheBrowse Banner for the nextchannel
above or below the one you are watching.
• When you have the Browse Banner open, press the RIGHT button to display information on the program that is on next on thesamechannel.
• When a menu offers you a list of choices (different from menu options), press the UP or DOWN buttontoseemorechoices.
• When you have the Program Guide open, press these buttons to move the highlight among the programs.
• To enter a number in a menu, highlight the place where you need to enter the number.Then, press the UP or DOWNbutton to increase or decrease the number in the highlighted place.
Or you can use the number buttons as described on page 9.
• When you watch a program, press the LEFT button to open the
Themes menu.
SELECT BUTTON
Press this button to select a highlighted option, or a program in the
Program Guide or Browse Banner.

RECALL B
Press this button to return to the last channel you watched.
UTTON
INFORMATION (INFO) BUTTON
• Press this button for more information when you have the
Program Guide or the Browse Banneropen, or when you watch a program.
• When you have a menu open with a Help option, press this button to see help information for that menu.
• Highlighta program in a Themes list and then press this button for more information on the program.
• You can turn the receiver off (make sure the TV is on) and then press this button t o open the Important System Information menu. Note: Even when the receiveris “off,” it keepsworking and it needs electrical power. Do not unplug t he power cord.
VIEW BUTTON
• Press this button t o immediately go back to watching a program.
• When you watch a program, press this button to briefly display
the Program Banner.
• When you are in a menu, press this button to cancel a procedure and go back to watching a program.
CANCEL BUTTON
Press this button to cancel a procedure and go back to t he previous menu or to watch a program.

How to Use the Buttons
SKIP BACK B
With DishPVR Receivers, this buttonlets you skip back a few seconds in the program. With most non-DishPVR receivers, this is the SYSTEM INFORMATION button.
UTTON
SKIP AHEAD BUTTON
With DishPVR Receivers, this button lets you skip ahead about 30 seconds in a program. With non-DishPVR receivers, this button is reserved for a feature that may be provided in the future.
NUMBER BUTTONS
Note: The letter groups above some of these buttons apply to a
receiver feature that may be provided in the future.
• When you watch a program or have the Program Guide open, use these buttons to enter a channel number and change to that channel.
• When you have the Program Guide open, enter a number of hours using these buttons, and then press the RIGHT arrow button to skip the Program Guide forward that far. If you skip ahead a numberof hours, you can then enteranumber using these buttons and press the LEFT arrowtogobackthatnumberof hours.
• Use these buttons to enter menu option numbers. For an option with a number, you can do this instead of highlighting the option andthenpressingtheSELECT button.
• Use these buttons to enter numbers in a menu. To do this, first highlight the place where you need to enter the number. Next, press a number button (or, you can use the UP/DOW N arrow

buttons to enter the number). Then, move the highlight to the place for the next number you need to enter, or press the SELECT button if you are done entering numbers.
POUND (#) BUTTON
You can use this button in several procedures in this User Guide.
Note: The word “search” above this button refers to a feature that is offered by only some receivers (see t he userguide that came with your receiver for more information).
STAR (*) BUTTON
With DishPVR receivers, this button functions as the PVR button. PressittoopentheDishPVR Recorded Events menu.
Note: Yourreceiver’s Star button may be labelled DVR List, PTV or PVR
VCR/PVR BUTTONS
VCR Buttons For the JVC HM-DSR100-D-VHS O nly
With the remote in SAT mode, these buttons can be used to control the
JVC HM-DSR100-D-VHS as follows:
• Press the STOP button to stop playing or recording a videotape.
• Press the PLAY button to play a videotape
• Press the PAUSE button to pause a videotape. Press the PLAY
buttontogobacktoplayingthetape.
• Pressthe REVERSEbutton to rewind a vi deotape.Or press Page Down a to rewind the videotape.
• Press the RECORD button to begin recording a videotape.
• Press the FORWARD button to fast forward a videotape. Or
press Page Up to fast forward through the videotape.

• You can set up the remote to control a second TV in AUX mode, the same way it controls the first TV in TV mode. See How to Set Up the Remote to Control Other Devices on page 18.
TV MODE BUTTON
To use the remote with a television, you must first set up the remote to control the television. See How to Set Up the Remote to Control Other Devices on page 18. Then, you must press the TV modebuttontoset theremotetoTV mode. Make sure to keep the remote in TV mode to use the buttons described in this section.

If you have a second video source such as cable TV connected to the back of your TV, you can use this button to switch between the two inputs.

Use these buttons to enter a channel number or other numbers in a TV menu.
VCR MODE
(OR AUX MODE FOR A SECOND VCR)
• Some of the features described below may not apply to your VCR. See your VCR owner’s manual for details about your VCR’s features. Only the remote control buttons described in this sectionworkinVCR mode.
• You can set up the remote to control a second VCR in AUX mode, the same way it controls the first VCR in VCR mode. See How to Set Up the Remote to Control Other Devices on page 18.
• You can also set up the remote to control a DVD player.Todothis,youmust have the remote control in VCR mode to set it up to control a DVD player. Then, you must set the remote to VCR mode to control the DVD player. The way you set up the remote to control a DVD player is by programming the remote with a DVD code when in VCR mode, instead of a VCR code.
• If you have a JVC Model HM-DSR100-D-VHS, theVCR buttons will operate the JVC receiver in VCR mode until you program the remote to control another VCR.

To use the remote with a cable TV box, you must firstset up the remote to control the cable box (see How to Set Up the Remote to Control Other Devices on page 18). Then,youmust press the AUX mode button to set the remote to AUX mode. The AUX mode button’s backlight flashes once to show the remote i s set to AUX mode. Make sure to keep the remote in AUX mode to use the buttons described in this section.

Use this button to switch the cable box between its “TV” mode and its “video” mode (see your cable box owner’s manual for details).

VOLUME BUTTON
If the cable box has its own volume control, use this button t o turn the sound up or down. If the cable box does not have its own volume control, pressing this button will turn the sound on your TV up or down.

Use t he UP/DOWN arrow buttons to change cable TV channels.

HOW TO SET UPTHEREMOTE TO CONTROL OTHER
DEVICES
This section explains how to set up the remote to control a device, such asaTV,aVCR,acableTVbox,atuner,oranamplifier.
1.Use the device’s buttons or its remote control to turn it on.
2.Findthe brandnameof the device in the tableson page 25. If the brand is not listed, see How to Scan for Device Codes on page 20.

3.Press and hold the mode button for the device you want the remote to control, for about three seconds. When all the other mode button backlights come on, release the mode button. It will begin flashing.
Note
: The first time you program AUX mode,
you may see the TV Mode buttonlight up. This is to be expected and does not mean there i s anything wrong with the remote.
4.Only for the AUX mode, use a number pad button to enter a prefix for the device: 0 is for a second TV, 1 is for a second V CR and 2 is for a cable box, amplifier or tuner.

5.For any mode, use the number pad buttons to enter a device code from the table.
6.Press the POUND (#) button. If the code is valid, the mode button backlight flashes three times.
7.Press the POWER button to test if the code works for the device. If the code works, the device should turn off.
8. Turn the device back on and try some other buttons to make sure they work. Sometimes, the POWER button will work but other buttons do not. If the code works for other buttons, stop here.
9.If the code you entered does not work, repeat steps 3 through 8 with another code from the tables.

HOW TO SCAN FOR DEVICE CODES
1.Press and hold the mode button for the device for aboutthree seconds.When all the othermode button backlights come on, release the button. The button backlight flashes to show the remote is ready.
Note: The first time you program AUX mode, you may see the TV Mode buttonlight up. This is to be expected and does not mean there i s anything wrong with the remote.
2.Only for the AUX mode, use the number pad buttons to enter a prefix number: 0 for a second TV, 1 for a second VCR, and 2 for a cable box, amplifier or tuner.

4.Press the POWER button.
5.Press the UP or DOWN arrow button to set the remote to the next code. The DOWN arrow button scans backward, and the UP arrow button scans forward. Press the button again to continue scanning.
Note: The mode button for the device starts flashing rapidly if you have scanned all the codes for that device

6.Iftheremote reachesthecorrect code,thedevice turns off. If this happens, press the POUND (#) button to store the code in the remote.
7.Press the POWER button to turn the device back on.
8.Try some other buttons to make sure they work. Sometimes,the POWER button will work but other buttons do not.
HOW TO CHECK THE DEVICE CODES
Youcan find out what device code is set for each remote controlmode. Do the following:
1.Press and hold the mode button for the device you want to control for about three seconds. When all the other mode button backlightscome on, release the mode button. The mode light will start flashing.
2.Press the POUND (#)buttontwice. The mode light flashes the number for each digit of the device code, with a pause between the groups of flashes. A quick flash is for zero. For example, themodelightflashesfivetimes,pauses,flashes seventimes, pauses,and flashesonce quickly for the 570 code.

HOW TO SWITCH BETWEEN TV AND DEVICE VOLUME
CONTROL
If you set up the remote to control a television, the MUTE and VOLUME buttons — in most modes — control the TV volume. But if
you use the AUX mode to control a tuner or amplifier and the device has a volume setting, you can set up the remote to control the device’s volume instead of the TV volume.

To set up the remote to control the volume of a tuner or amplifier instead of the volume of a TV, do the following:
1.Press and hold the AUX mode button for three seconds, and then release it.
2.Press the POUND (#)button.
3.Press the plus (+) side of the VOLUME button.
4.Press the 0 number button.
5.Press the POUND (#)button.TheAUX mode button backlightflashes three times.
To set the remote back to control the TV volume, do the following:
1.Press and hold the TV mode button for three seconds, then release it.
2.Press the POUND (#)button.
3.Press the plus (+) side of the VOLUME button.
4.Press the 0 number button.
5.Press the POUND (#)button.TheAUX mode button backlightflashes three times.

How to Change the Address
HOW TO CHANGE THE ADDRESS
If your receiver does not respond to this remote, it may have a different address. To make sure both the receiver and the remote have the same address, do this.
1.Open the I mportant System Information menu.
To do this, press the receiver front panel POWER button to turn the receiver off, and then press the receiver front panel SYS INFO or INFORMATION button. Make sure the TV
is turned on. This will open the Important System Informationmenu. Look for the
remote address.
Note: If your receiver does nothaveafront panel
SYS INFO or an INFORMATION button, make sure the TV is on, and pull the Smart Card out of the receiver to open the Important System Information menu.
2.Press and hold the SAT mode button about three seconds, until all the mode button backlights come on, and then release the SATbutton.The SAT mode light will start flashing.
3.Use the number pad buttons to enter the number listed after Remote Address on t he Important System Information screen. The SAT mo de button backlight turns off after you enter each digit, and then comes on again.
4.Press the POUND (#) button. If the address you entered is valid for the remote control, the SAT mode button backlight flashes three times.

HOW TO TROUBLE-SHOOT
What Is
Happening
Whileyou do a remote procedure, the remote control “times outand you cannot complete the procedure.
You cannot findtheremote control.
Possible Reason What to Do
•Ifyouare programming the remoteanddonot pressa buttonfor 20 seconds, t he remote exits the programming mode.
• Ifyouholdabutton longer than about two minutes, the remotestops transmitting. This feature is meant to save batteries in case the remote gets stuck between cushions in a sofa.

Whenyou press the remote control

buttontoturn the receiver on, the receiver front panel POWER light does not turn on.
Whenyou press the AUX mode button, the TV mode button comes on.
• The remote control may notbe working properly orthe batteriesmay be weak or dead.
• The receiver power cord may not be plugged into a power outlet, or there may be a problem with the power.
• The remotemay not be in SAT mode.
• Your remote may be setto the wrong address.
• AUX mode has not been set to control any device and so acts as if itwerethe TV Power key.
• Replace theremote batterieswithfresh ones.
• Make sure the receiver power cord is not damaged, and the plug is inserted correctly into the outlet.
• Make sure to set the remote to SAT mode to control the receiver.
• Make sure the receiver and th e r emote are set to the same address.
• This is normal. After about three seconds, AUX will enter normal programming mode. Once you program AUX mode to control a device, the AUXkey will no longer turn the TV On or Off.

Limited Warranty
When you pressa button on the remote control, the device does not do what you expect.
•Youmaybetrying to control a device other than the receiver, without pointing the remote control directly at the device.
• Theremote control may be missing batteries, the batteries may be incorrectly placed in the remote, or the batteries may be weak or dead.
•Theremotemay not be set to the mode for the device youwant to control.
•Theremotemay not be set up to control the device.
• Remember,the remotecontrolusesIR signals to control devices other than the receiver. IR signals travel only 40 feet or less, and cannot go through walls or other solid objects. You must point the remote control directly at the device, with no objects blocking the signal path.
• Makesurethereceiverandtheremote are set to the same address.
• If the remote has fresh batteries, check whether they are placed according to the label diagram. If not, remove them and place them correctly.
• If the batteries are missing or dead, insert fresh AAA-size batteries.
• Makesuretosettheremotetothe mode for the device you want to control.
• Makesuretosetuptheremoteto control all the devices you want to use.
LIMITED WARRANTY
This warranty extends only to the original user of the DISH NetworkTMremote control (“you,” “your”) and is limited to the purchase price of the remote control.E choStar Communications Corporation and its affiliated companies (“we,” “our,” “us”) warrant this remote control against de fects in materials or workmanship as follows.
For one year from the original date of purchase, if we find the remote control is defective subject to the limits of this warranty, we will replace the remote at no charge for parts or labor. We warrant any such work done against defects in materials or workmanship for the remaining part of the original warranty period.
This warranty does not cover installation of theDISH Network consumer instruction; physicalset up or adjustment of any consumer electronic device; remote control batteries; signal reception problems; loss of use of the equipment; unused programming charges due to equipment malfunction; cosmetic damage; damage due to lightning, electrical or telephone line surges, fire, flood, or other acts of Nature; accident; misuse;abuse; repair or alteration by other than our factory service; negligence; commercial or institutional use; improper or neglected maintenance; equipment sold AS I S o r WITH ALL FAULTS; equipment removal or reinstallation; shipping damage if the equipmentwas not packed and shipped in the manner we prescribe; nor equipmentpurchased, serviced, or operated outside t he contiguous United States of America.

This warranty gives you specific legal rights which may vary from state to state. Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitations of incidental or consequential damages, or allow limitations on the duration of an implied warranty, so those limitations may not apply to you.
ADVANCE EXCHANGE PROGRAM
The Advance Exchange Program allows you to have replacement equipment shipped immediately to you (depending upon where you live, it could take three to five business days). Along with replacement equipment, you will receive a prepaid shipping label and instructions on how to return the defective equipment.
The shipping charge, for receiving replacement equipment and returning the defective equipment, is a one time fee based on EchoStar's competitive bulk shipping rates (additional charges may apply outside of the continental US). This fee will be charged to your billing account or your valid credit card.
If you do not ship the defective equipment to EchoStar within ten days afterreceiving the replacement, yourbilling account or credit card will be charged the market price of the replacement. If you return the

defective equipment after ten days, you will receive a full refund less an administrative fee.
If your equipment is out of warranty and can be repaired your billing account or credit card willbe charged the standard repair fee for the replacement. POST RECEIPT EXCHANGE PROGRAM
You may choose t o ship the equipment to us at your cost. To provide fasterservice, upon receipt of your equipment you will be shipped a replacement. Your original equipment will not be available for return.
The equipment you return will be checked to verify whether it is covered under this warranty. If the defective equipment is covered under this warranty, it will be replaced and shipped back to you at no additional cost (additional charges may apply outside of the continental US).

ACCESSORY WARRANTY
An accessory is any DISH Network branded equipment, displaying the DISH Network logo, excluding the receiver, Smart Card, cables and hookups, and non-mechanical components. A one-year warranty becomes effective upon the activation of the DISH system or date of purchase, if boughtseparately. A proof of purchaseisrequiredtoverify the purchase date. If an accessory has an expired warranty, no exchange will be issued. You may purchase replacement accessories from DISH Network or your local retailer.
