Introduction
Thank you for purchasing a Panacea® Tilt Chair from Direct Supply Equipment & Furnishings®, a
division of Direct Supply, Inc. In this owner’s manual, you will find important information you should
read before using this device. Please keep this manual available for future reference. Should you have
any questions, please contact your Direct Supply account manager.
With tilt adjustability from 0 degrees up to -55 degrees, the Panacea® Tilt Chair offers superior
comfort for individuals requiring pressure redistribution during long periods in a seated position. This
device may be appropriate for individuals who are transitioning to a state of non-ambulation, require
moderate to advanced levels of nursing care and/or corrective positioning.
This owner’s manual is compiled from the latest specifications and product information available at
the time of publication. Changes may be made to this manual at any time. Contact Direct Supply for a
current copy of this owner’s manual.

CAREGIVER: The individual(s) responsible for the care and needs of the user, such as a spouse,
adult family member or home health aide. The caregiver must be available at all times to provide the
user with physical and cognitive assistance and provide supervision as needed.
USER: The individual who will use the device.

Warnings & Cautions
Read and follow all directions before using this device. Do not operate this device without first
reading and understanding the contents of this manual. Damage, injury or even death may result
from improper use of this device or not following directions and warnings.
This device is intended for use by trained and licensed healthcare or senior care providers for normal,
indoor use only. The chair should be kept in a clean, dry environment. The chair should receive
frequent, regularly scheduled mainte nance, including an inspection of the mechanical parts to ensure
proper operation.
Perform a safety check before each use of this device to ensure it operates smoothly and safely; do
not use this device if it appears to be damaged or not functioning properly. Never allow an individual
to use this device unless he or she has been instructed on how to safely use the device and he or
she has been determined to have the physical and cognitive ability to operate the device.
• WARNING: This product is not suitable for all individuals. Other devices may be required. This
device is only a tool in part of an overall care plan. This product is not designed to replace good
caregiving practices, including, but not limited to:
• Direct supervision
• Adequate care plans and training for users
• Inspection and testing before use
• WARNING: Do not modify, remove or disable any feature, part or function of this chair beyond
the instructions in this manual. Do not use parts or accessories that are not designed for this device.
Unauthorized modification or use of accessories or replacement parts not designed for this device
could change the structure and/or operation of the chair and create a hazardous condition, which
could result in serious personal injury to the user, caregivers and third parties.
• WARNING: Using the chair for any use other than its intended purpose is dangerous to the user,
caregivers and third parties.
• WARNING: It is recommended that the user show signs of being medically stable, able to touch
the floor and able to bear weight with his or her toes.
• WARNING: The maximum weight capacity of the chair is 350 lbs. (450 lbs. for bariatric version)
• WARNING: Before using, all users and caregivers must be trained on the proper maintenance,
function and use of the chair. The chair should be tested before each use.
• WARNING: Do not allow children or pets to climb on or otherwise use this device.
• WARNING: A medical professional should assess each user individually to determine chair readiness.
• WARNING: Do not use the chair if any part is broken, torn or missing.
• WARNING: Do not use the chair if it shows any signs of deterioration or excessive wear and tear.
• WARNING: Worn or torn upholstery, or upholstery with loose hardware, must be replaced
immediately. The device must be immediately removed from service and not used again until the
applicable replacement is completed, as it may not support body weight.
• WARNING: Always place the device on a level and stable surface. Sloped or uneven surfaces
pose a great risk of unintended movement and could become a serious danger to the user, caregivers
and third parties.
• WARNING: Use extreme caution on any incline or decline. Proceed slowly to ensure a safe ascent
or descent.
• WARNING: Never operate the device on public streets or roadways.
• WARNING: Do not allow users to operate this device unattended.
• WARNING: Never operate this device in rain, snow, salt, mist/spray conditions or on icy/slippery surfaces.

• WARNING: The device should be used away from stairwells, elevators and exterior doorways.
• WARNING: Ensure the user is properly positioned in the chair. Improper positioning could result in
a tipping of the chair and/or the user sliding or falling off the chair.
• WARNING: Do not stand, exert great pressure or step on the frame, chair seat, legrest or foot
plate. This can cause the chair to tip or may cause damage to the chair or personal injury.
• WARNING: Do not use the legrest or footplate as a platform. When transferring into or out of the
chair, ensure the foot plate is folded in the upward position and the legrest is in the stored position.
• WARNING: Do not lean on the chair or use it as a walk er.
• WARNING: Do not allow the chair to get wet, or use the chair as a shower or bathing chair.
• WARNING: Do not expose the chair near an open fire or other source of strong heat.
• WARNING: Do not tie down or attach anything to the chair. This could cause tipping and possibly
result in personal injury or damage.
• WARNING: This chair has not been approved as a seat that can be used within vehicles of any
kind. Always transfer the chair user to a vehicle manufacturer-approved seat and use available
safety restraints.
• WARNING: The mechanical lock must be operational before using the chair. Do not operate the
tilt mechanism if the mechanical lock is not operational.
• WARNING: Do not allow a user to bend, lean or reach for objects while using this device. This
may increase the likelihood of tipping and falling.
• WARNING: When transferring into and out of the chair, always engage the caster wheel locks.
• WARNING: Do not allow users to transfer into or out of the chair without assistance. Ensure
users do not put all of their weight on the chair armrests, and do not use the armrests for
weight-bearing purposes.
• WARNING: During transfers, position the user as far back as possible in the chair seat to prevent
the chair from tipping forward.
• WARNING: Do not put fingers beneath the chair while in use. Users and caregivers should be
aware of the potential risks of getting their fingers caught.
• WARNING: Caster wheel locks are not brakes. Do not use the caster wheel locks to slow down
the chair while the chair is moving. Caster wheel locks are only intended to keep the chair in place
when it is at a complete stop.
• CAUTION: The chair should be inspected regularly to ensure all components are properly secured.
• CAUTION: The chair should only be used indoors.
• CAUTION: Users and operators should wear appropriate footwear with nonskid outer soles.
• CAUTION: Prior to operating the chair, the surrounding floor should be inspected for anything that
could cause a potential injury or hazard.
• CAUTION: Before attempting to transfer into or out of the chair, every precaution should be taken
to reduce the gap distance.
