Dimplex Optiflame 3D Inset Fire
Models: BMR20, DMF20, GLN20, TRR20, POR20
Thank you for choosing a Dimplex electric fire.
General Information
The fire incorporates a flame eect, which can be used with or without heating, so that the
comforting eect may be enjoyed at any time of the year.
A fan heater can provide heating in cold weather. A distance of 1 metre (3 feet) must be maintained
between the front of the heater and any surrounding furniture, overhanging curtains or other
obstructions.
To reduce heat loss and to prevent any chimney up draft aecting the operation of your inset fire,
we recommend that the chimney flue is sealed o.
Always ensure that the appliance is sitting on a level surface.
Before connecting the appliance, check that the supply voltage is the same as that stated on the
appliance.
Please note: Used in an environment where background noise is very low, it may be possible to
hear a sound which is related to the operation of the flame eect. This is normal and should not
be a cause for concern.
Technical Information
Model No: Braemar BMR20BR, BMR20CH, BMR20AB, Dumfries DMF20BR, DMF20CH,
This heater must be used on an AC ~ supply only and the voltage marked on the heater must
correspond to the supply voltage. Before switching on, please read the safety warnings and
operating instructions. Please retain this user’s guide for future reference
Before installing this appliance in an existing chimney, we recommend that;
1. You have your chimney cleaned by a competent chimney sweep.
2. You block o the chimney flue.
This procedure is important for the ecient operation of the heating unit and will also reduce heat
loss up the chimney.
Ensure that all packing items are removed (read any warning labels carefully). Retain all packing
for possible future use e.g. in the event of moving or returning the appliance to your supplier.
Installing the Appliance;
1. Clean the area where the fire will be installed e.g remove ash residue from an existing fireplace.
2. Hold the fire by the sides of surround and gently manoeuvre into position.
3. Plug the fire into a 13amp/240 volt outlet. Ensure that the supply cable is not trapped under
the fire such that it might cause it to be damaged.
At the rear of the fire, two adjustable feet are provided for levelling the fire where the fire is being
installed on an uneven surface. You can adjust the feet by removing the two screws and refitting
the them in the required position, one at a time.
All fires are supplied with a keyhole slot on the rear of the fire surround or spacer. A screw and
rawl plug can be used in conjunction with this keyhole slot to provide extra stability to the fire and
to prevent it from accidentally being knocked over. The rawl plug supplied is suitable for use
in block walls only (other wall types may need alternative fixings).
Some models are supplied with a metal surround spacer already fitted to the product, see
Fig 5. This spacer can be removed from the fire if you would like to position the fire fully inset in a
fireplace. In order to remove the metal surround, unscrew the six fixing screws at the rear of the
product, see Fig. 6. The steps below can be used to install the above fire models with or without
the metal spacer fitted.
1. Determine whether the installation of your fire will be with/without the spacer. See Fig. 4 and
Table 2 for reference to dimensions of your electric fire.
2. Measure and mark the installation position of the screws.
This position is indicated by ‘Y’ and ‘Z’ in Fig. 7 (See Table 3 for dimensions for your chosen
electric fire)
3. Drill the hole for the rawl plug and position the rawl plug in the hole.
4. Insert the screw into the rawl plug to a depth great enough to allow the keyhole slot on the
product to fit neatly across the screw head.
5. Position the fire alongside the screws and then lift the fire up and over the screw head so that
the top edge of the slot on the fire engages behind the head of the screw.
4
Fuelbed Assembly
Your fire has been supplied with a range of fuelbed material, which you can arrange to your
preference. All product models contain crystals, coal and logs. Some models (Glencoe, Torridon
and Portree) also contain white pebbles.
Loose coals, pebbles, crystals and logs are packed separately within the carton. When the
heater is installed, place the fuelbed material on the fuelbed and arrange to your liking. We
recommend the following step, in order to acheive the optimal eect.
1. Place crystals on fuelbed, covering the top surface of the fuelbed. These will provide a glowing
embers effect, when the flame effect is operating. See Fig.1 below.
Fig. 1
2. Add coal or pebbles on top of the crystals. Allow for spaces in between coal/pebbles, for the
acrylic crystals (glowing embers). See Fig.2 below.
Fig. 2
3. Arrange the logs on top, to your preference. Fig.3 below displays a representation for log
arrangement. You may wish not to use all of the logs provided.
