Digitech 2120 User Manual

The symbols shown at left are internationally accepted symbols that warn of potential hazards with electrical products. The lightning flash with arrow point in an equilateral triangle means that there are dangerous voltages present within the unit. The exclamation point in an equilateral triangle indicates that it is necessary for the user to refer to the owner's manual.
These symbols warn that there are no user serviceable parts inside the unit. Do not open the unit. Do not attempt to service the unit yourself. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
• A Phillips-head screwdriver
• A7/64” hex-head screwdriver
• Eprom puller or scribe
Before beginning the installation, all precautions should be made to eliminate the possibilities of electro-static discharge (ESD) in the working environment. Such discharges can severely damage the 2120. Also, you should upload any user programs and Utility modifications via the SysEx Program and SysEx System dump routines to a MIDI data recording device or another 2120 or sequencer/librarian if you want to keep these changes, and upload them back in once installation is complete. Refer to your 2120 User’s Guide on this procedure.
Once you have archived your user data, the steps for installing the Eprom are as follows:
1. Remove the power cord form the 2120
2. Remove the 4 screws located on the left and right side of the 2120
3. Remove the rear panel top screws.
4. Remove the the front top center hex-screw.
5. Remove the 2120 lid.
6. Locate the Eprom on the circuit board near the MIDI jacks. It is the chip with the white label on it.
7. Using an Eprom puller or a scribe, carefully insert the tool between the chip and the socket and remove this chip by lifting one edge and then the opposite edge until the Eprom is free. (The Eprom is seated in a socket. Do not try to remove the socket).
8. Take the 2120 Upgrade Eprom and locate the notch at one end. When placing the Eprom into the socket, make sure this notch is pointing towards the back of the 2120, toward the Control One jack.
9. Make sure the pins are properly aligned before pressing the Eprom into place. Do not bend the pins. Align the pins with the appropriate holes of the socket and press the Eprom straight down. Make sure that none of the pins bend under when doing so.
10.Be sure to remove any tools or old parts from the 2120 before re-assembling the unit.
11. Replace the 2120 lid and install the 4 screws, rear top screws, and front top center hex-screw in their designated positions.
The installation is now complete. If you have any questions regarding this procedure, take the unit and the Eprom to an authorized service center or store where it was purchased for installation.
Once the Eprom is installed, you must reset the 2120 to clear out any old data that may have been left over after the upgrade. Do this by pressing and holding the <Preamp> button and turning on the 2120. When the asterisk appears in the top line of the display press the <Mod> button.
