The DHU500 Series line of Pentaplex Network DVR’s offer a full-featured Networkable
video recording solution. Record in Real Time with 120 fps recording capability.
Images can be easily transferred using the built in CDRW optical drive or USB flash
drive. The system can be viewed and controlled over the internet from a remote
location with a password protected browser-based application. Easy access via the
Free Digimerge DDNS Service is included.

Important Safeguards

In addition to the careful attention devoted to quality standards in the manufacture process of your video
product, safety is a major factor in the design of every instrument. However, safety is your responsibility too.
This sheet lists important information that will help to assure your enjoyment and proper use of the video
product and accessory equipment. Please read them carefully before operating and using your video product.

Installation

1. Read and Follow Instructions - All the safety and
operating instructions should be read before the
video product is operated. Follow all operating
instructions.

2. Retain Instructions - The safety and operating
instructions should be retained for future reference.

3. Heed Warnings - Comply with all warnings on the
video product and in the operating instructions.

4. Polarization - Do not defeat the safety purpose of
the polarized or grounding-type plug.

A polarized plug has two blades with
one wider than the other.

A grounding type plug has two blades
and a third grounding prong.

The wide blade or the third prong are
provided for your safety.

If the provided plug does not fit into
your outlet, consult an electrician for
replacement of the obsolete outlet

5. Power Sources - This video product should be
operated only from the type of power source
indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of
the type of power supply to your location, consult
your video dealer or local power company. For video
products intended to operate from battery power, or
other sources, refer to the operating instructions.

6. Overloading - Do not overload wall outlets of
extension cords as this can result in the risk of fire
or electric shock. Overloaded AC outlets, extension
cords, frayed power cords, damaged or cracked wire
insulation, and broken plugs are dangerous. They
may result in a shock or fire hazard. Periodically
examine the cord, and if its appearance indicates
damage or deteriorated insulation, have it replaced
by your service technician.

7. Power-Cord Protection - Power supply cords should
be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on
or pinched by items placed upon or against them,
paying particular attention to cords at plugs,
convenience receptacles, and the point where they
exit from the video product.

8. Ventilation - Slots and openings in the case are
provided for ventilation to ensure reliable operation
of the video product and to protect it from
overheating. These openings must not be blocked
or covered. The openings should never be blocked
by placing the video equipment on a bed, sofa, rug,
or other similar surface. This video product should
never be placed near or over a radiator or heat
register. This video product should not be placed in
a built-in installation such as a bookcase or rack
unless proper ventilation is provided or the video
product manufacturer’s instructions have been
followed.

9. Attachments - Do not use attachments unless
recommended by the video product manufacturer as
they may cause a hazard.

10. Water and Moisture - Do not use this video product
near water. For example, near a bath tub, wash bowl,
kitchen sink or laundry tub, in a wet basement, near
a swimming pool and the like.

Caution: Maintain electrical safety. Powerline
operated equipment or accessories connected to
this unit should bear the UL listing mark of CSA
certification mark on the accessory itself and should
not be modified so as to defeat the safety features.
This will help avoid any potential hazard from
electrical shock or fire. If in doubt, contact qualified
service personnel.

11. Accessories - Do not place this video equipment
on an unstable cart, stand, tripod, or table. The video
equipment may fall, causing serious
damage to the video product. Use
this video product only with a cart,
stand, tripod, bracket, or table
recommended by the
manufacturer or sold with the video
product. Any mounting of the product
should follow the manufacturer’s
instructions and use a mounting accessory
recommended by the manufacturer.

Service

13. Servicing - Do not attempt to service this video
equipment yourself as opening or removing covers
may expose you to dangerous voltage or other
hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service
personnel.

14. Conditions Requiring Service - Unplug this video
product from the wall outlet and refer servicing to
qualified service personnel under the following
conditions.

A. When the power supply cord or plug is
damaged.

B. If liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen
into the video product.

C. If the video product has been exposed to rain
or water.

D. If the video product does not operate normally
by following the operating instructions. Adjust
only those controls that are covered by the
operating instructions. Improper adjustment of
other controls may result in damage and will often
require extensive work by a qualified technician
to restore the video product to its normal
operation.

E. If the video product has been dropped or the
cabinet has been damaged.

19. Cleaning - Unplug the video product from the wall
outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid cleaners or
aerosol cleaners. Use a damp cloth for cleaning.

20. Product and Cart Combination - Video and cart
combination should be moved with care. Quick
stops, excessive force, and uneven surfaces may
cause the video product and car combination to
overturn.

21. Object and Liquid Entry - Never push objects for
any kind into this video product through openings as
they may touch dangerous voltage points or
“short-out” parts that could result in a fire or electric
shock. Never spill liquid of any kind on the video
product.

22. Lightning - For added protection for this video
product during a lightning storm, or when it is left
unattended and unused for long periods of time,
unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the
antenna or cable system. This will prevent damage
to the video product due to lightning and power line
surges.

F. When the video product exhibits a distinct
change in performance. This indicates a need for
service.

15. Replacement Parts - When replacement parts are
required, have the service technician verify that the
replacements used have the same safety
characteristics as the original parts. Use of
replacements specified by the video product
manufacturer can prevent fire, electric shock or other
hazards.

16. Safety Check - Upon completion of any service or
repairs to this video product, ask the service
technician to perform safety checks recommended
by the manufacturer to determine that the video
product is in safe operating condition.

17. Wall or Ceiling Mounting - The cameras provided
with this system should be mounted to a wall or
ceiling only as instructed in this guide, using the
provided mounting brackets.

18. Heat - The product should be situated away from
heat sources such as radiators, heat registers,
stoves, or other products (including amplifiers) that
produce heat.

1. POWER - Turns the DVR unit ON/OFF.

2. CDRW DRIVE - Drive bay for CD-RW Drive

3. STOP / EJECT - Stops the playback of a previously recorded event / Ejects the CDRW Drive.

4. PAUSE - Pauses the playback of a previously recorded event.

5. REV - REVERSES the playback of a previously recorded event.

6. PLAY/FWD - Starts the playback of a previously recorded event. If the PLAY/FF button is pressed
during playback, the FAST FORWARD option will become active.

7. REC - Manually starts/stops recording of the currently displayed camera.

8. VOLUME UP / DOWN - Raises and Lowers the system volume.

9. AUDIO - Switches between cameras 1-4 to receive audio

12. SCREEN SELECT / MENU NAVIGATION - Performs a dual purpose:

• Changes the Camera view to Single, 4 Camera, 9 Camera or 16 Camera views.

• Use the

KLIJ buttons to navigate through the MENU options (in MENU

mode).

1. BNC VIDEO INPUTS - Video inputs for direct connection to Cameras or for looping input to a
DVR. The number of ports will vary based on the DVR model (4 Channel, 8 Channel or 16
Channel).

2. AC INPUT - Connect the AC power using the power cord provided with the unit from the DVR
to an electrical outlet.

3. COMPOSITE - A Composite Video OUT connection used to connect the DVR to a Slave Monitor
or DVR.

Once the DVR has been connected and powered on, the following self-test screens will appear:

NOTE: If a new HARD DRIVE is detected by the system, the DVR will automatically FORMAT

the new drive.

Starting the DVR - QUAD Display

After the system self-tests have
been completed, the DVR will
switch to the CAMERA viewing
screens (in QUAD MODE) with the
following information displayed on
screen:

• CH1-CH4: Camera title
indicators

• HDD%: Percentage of Hard
Drive used

• MM/DD/YYYY - HH:MM:SS:
The current system date and
time.

If a camera is not detected, or the
Camera is in COVERT MODE, the
associated portion of the QUAD or
MULTI screen will display a BLUE SCREEN.

Powering Off the DVR/Stopping Recording

In order to power down the DVR Unit, or to manually stop the current recording, the default
system password of ‘00000000’ will need to be entered (when prompted). If the default password
is changed, then the new user specified password will be used instead.

• Enter the MENU screen by pressing the MENU button. The System Password may be required,
based on system settings.

• Scroll through the 5 Main options by pressing the KL buttons.

• To enter a sub-menu, navigate to the option and press the SEL button.

• To exit a SUBMENU, press the MENU button. To save the changes, select the SAVE & EXIT
option and press the SEL button.

• Pressing the MENU button from the MAIN MENU will exit the MENU configuration screen

Program Update

Allows the user to update the DVR firmware by downloading the most current application from
the Digimerge website, and using a Memory Stick. Download the most current program from the

http://www.digimerge.com website, and copy it to a Memory Stick. Connect the Memory Stick

to the USB 2.0 Port on the front panel of the DVR.

• NEW PROGRAM FOUND: If the new application is recognized, the DVR unit will display a

A USB Memory Stick can be connected to the front panel of the DVR, and is used as a backup
device or to upgrade the Firmware on the DVR.

Backup to USB / CDRW

1. Insert the USB Memory Stick into the DVR or place a CD is placed in the CDRW Drive, then
choose the Backup Menu from the Search Function.

NOTE: The Memory Stick should be Formatted on a PC prior to copying data from the DVR Unit.

2. Press the Search Button on the front panel of the DVR.
Select the Backup option to access the Backup Menu.

• Backup Device: Indicates the detected device is a
FLASH Memory Stick or a CDRW Disk

• Device Format - Clears all data from the FLASH

Occasionally, updates to the DVR firmware become available on our website. These updates
can be installed on your DVR unit using the USB Memory Stick.

1. Download the most current program from the http://www.digimerge.com website, and copy it
to a Memory Stick. Compatibility has been successfully tested with the Lexar Jumpdrive 128/
256 MB, Sandisk Mini Cruzer 128 MB and Cruzer Micro 256MB.

2. Connect the Memory Stick to the USB 2.0 Port on the front panel of the DVR.

3. Enter the Menu by pressing the MENU button on the front panel of the DVR.

• Select the System Set Option, and choose Program Update

• NEW PROGRAM FOUND: If the new application is recognized, the DVR unit will display a
processing percentage. Reboot the DVR once complete.

• NEW PROGRAM NOT FOUND: If the application is not recognized, processing will not
continue.

You will need to enable port forwarding on your Router to allow for external communications with
your DVR. The following ports will need to be forwarded to remotely connect to your DVR:

• DVR PORT: 2000 (or any other port you selected to use during setup)

• WEBSERVER PORT: 80 (or any other port you selected to use during setup)

Computers, DVRs, and other devices inside your network can only communicate directly with
each other within the internal network. Computers and systems outside your network cannot
directly communicate with these devices. When a system on the internal network needs to send
or receive information from a system outside the network (i.e. from the Internet), the information
is sent to the Router.

Digimerge offers a free DDNS server for use with your System. A DDNS account allows you to
set up a web site address that points back to your Local Network. The following outlines how to
set up your free DNS account.

Controls features for the Remote DVR or Local PC

update the Remote DVR Firmware.

Remote Setup

Changes made to the Remote Setup will adjust the settings on the Remote DVR. The setup
controls 4 different aspects of the DVR:

• Display Setup

• Recording Setup

• System Setup

• Event Setup

1. Display Set

• Camera Definition - Assign names to all detected Cameras

• Full Display Sequence Submenu - Configures the display sequence for all available
cameras. Any camera set to Bypass will not be displayed in DVR Sequencing mode.

• QUAD Display Sequence Submenu - Configures the QUAD display sequence for all available
cameras. Any page (contains 4 cameras) set to Bypass will not be displayed in DVR QUAD
Sequencing mode.

• Camera Covert - Turns Camera display ON/OFF The DVR unit will continue to record, even
if all cameras are set to OFF.

2. Recording Set

The Recording Set option controls 3 subgroups - Basic Configuration, Recording Group and
Recording ON/OFF.

• Basic Configuration - Controls some of the basic functions of the DVR:

z Audio Recording: Turns the recording for audio channels ON or OFF.

z Repeat Recording: Sets recording repeat to ON or OFF (i.e. Overwrite options).

z Watermark Embedding: Embeds a watermark into the recording. Set to ON or OFF.

z Recording Resolution: Changes the recording Resolution.

• Recording Group - Controls 4 subgroups - Normal, Alarm, Motion and Schedule.

z Normal Page: Configures the number of FPS (Frames per Second) and sets the

Recording Quality for all available Cameras

z Alarm Page: Configures the number of FPS (Frames per Second) and sets the

Recording Quality for all available Cameras. The Alarm Duration (in seconds) can
also be set to a maximum of 150 Seconds.

Use the SET Menu Button to turn Alarm Recording ON or OFF for each available
camera.

z Motion Page: Configures the number of FPS (Frames per Second), Recording Quality

and Sensitivity for all available Cameras

Use the SET Menu Button to set up the Motion Detection Area for each available
camera.

z Schedule Page: Configures the number of FPS (Frames per Second) and sets the

Recording Quality for all available Cameras

Use the SET Menu Button to set up the Motion Detection Area for each available
camera.

• Recording ON/OFF - Sets Recording for Alarm, Motion and Schedule to ON or OFF.

3. System Set

The System Set controls some of the general functionality of the remote DVR:

• User Accounts - Add up to 5 user accounts for remote access to the DVR unit.

• PTZ Camera Model Setup - Configuration for PTZ enabled cameras.

• Sensor IN Setup - Configuration for any external sensor devices connected to the remote
DVR (such as Door or Window Sensors) to a maximum of 4.

• Alarm OUT Setup - Configuration for Alarm type devices (maximum of 4).

• Auto Delete Mode - Sets the time period for Auto Delete (how long the DVR unit will retain
recorded video data). This dropdown can be set between 0 Days to 99 Days, or to None.

• PTZ Controller - Settings for the PTZ Controller

z ID: Set the ID Dropdown between 1 and 6,

z PTZ Model: Only option available is TB-CN SERIES

z Baud Rate: Set to 2400, 4800 or 9600

4. Event Set

The Event Set controls event related reporting and alerts:

• Email Registration - Add email addresses for automatic event alerts.

• Email Report - Configuration for Alert Reporting to email by Day, Time, and when the email
should be sent (i.e. immediately)

• Notification Out - Sets the Alert Type (Beep, Email or Alarm) to YES or NO for Alarm, Motion,
Video Loss and Power Loss. Also sets the duration for the alarm.

Local Setup

Configuration settings for the Local PC.

• Draw Mode: Select the color format
(YUV of RGB).

• Date Format: Specifies the date format
to be displayed on the image
(yyyy-mm-dd, mm-dd-yyyy or
dd-mm-yyyy).

• Save Format: Specifies the file format
for the saved image (JPG or BMP)

• OSD: Specifies what information will
appear on the On Screen Display
(Channel, Size, Speed, Frame Rate
and Mode).

• Location: The installation directory for
the Web Client software

Channel Buttons

Firmware Upgrade

The firmware on the remote DVR unit can be updated through the web client.

1. Download the most recent firmware from the Digimerge website, and place the downloaded file
in the C:\DGClient\Upgrade folder on the PC

2. Select the Firmware Upgrade option from the Setup Menu. IF the
new firmware is detected, an Upgrade dialogue box will appear.
Select the Upgrade button.

3. A status indicator window appears during the upgrade
process.

4. Once the update has completed, a success window will appear. Press
OK to the Upgrade window, and reboot the remote DVR unit.

Channel Buttons

Displays individual channels when selected.

Date / Time

Displays the Date and Time of the local PC.

Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting

When a malfunction occurs, it may not be serious and can be easily corrected. The following
describes the most common problems and solutions. Please refer to the following before calling
your DVR dealer

Problem:

DVR Unit is not receiving power, or is not powering up

Check:

• Confirm that all cables are connected correctly

• Confirm that the ON/OFF (I/O) switch on the rear of the unit (beside the power cable connection)
is ON (in the I position)

• Confirm that there is power at the outlet:

z Connecting the power cable to another outlet
z Test the outlet with another plugged device (such as an electric calculator or

phone charger)

• If the unit is connected through a power bar or surge protector, try bypassing the bar and
connecting the power directly to the wall outlet

Problem:

DVR is not responding when any of the buttons are pushed.

Check:

• Turn the master power switch OFF using the (I/O) switch on the rear of the unit (beside the
power cable connection):

z Press the (I/O) switch to the OFF position (O)

z Wait for 1 minute - all LED light indicators on the front of the unit will be off

z Press the (I/O) switch to the ON position (I)

• The unit will make an audible alert when powered back on

Problem:

There is no picture appearing on a Channel / Camera is not displaying

Check:

• Check the camera video cable and connections - Disconnect and reconnect the cable at the
DVR and at the Camera

• Try moving the camera to another channel or use another cable

• Check if the Camera is in COVERT mode.

Troubleshooting

Problem:

The message “Can't display page is shown when failing to connect to DVR (when inputting the IP
Address or Domain Name in the Internet Explorer).

Check:

• Check the network connection

• Try connecting the DVR to a different port on the Router

• The DVR may not have the correct Network Settings. Refer to Technical Support.

Problem:

Cannot download the Active X Controls (when using Internet Explorer).

Check:

• Check that Windows XP Service Pack 2 is installed on the PC

• The DVR may not have the correct Network Settings. Refer to Technical Support.

Problem:

The Client Program is terminated with the error message "Unsupported OS version!".

Check:

• The client program only works on Window XP and Windows 2000. It does not support Windows
98, 98SE, or ME

Problem:

The Client Login box appears, and does not accept the User ID and Password.

Check:

• This happens when the User ID and Password are not correct. Check the exact ID and
Password on the DVR unit.

Motion detection and Alarm controls are enabled through the Menu system on the DVR.
Additional motion sensor devices can be connected to the system (Motion Sensors, Door/
Window Sensors).

A motion detection or sensor unit can
be used to send a signal to the DVR
to begin camera viewing on the
matching Video Channel (when
enabled in the MENU/ALARM SET
MODE)

• Example: A Window sensor unit
has been installed on Alarm
Block port #4. When this sensor
is activated, the camera on DIN
or BNC VIDEO port #4 will
become active (if enabled in the
MENU on the DVR)

GND port on the Alarm Block on the
DVR
