About this Manual
This manual covers the MIL- 1225LS gigabit converter. The terms “MIL-1225LS” and “converter” are used throughout this document to describe the device.
Introduction
The MIL-1225LS is a 1000 Mbps, gigabit Ethernet device that converts short-wave, multi-mode fiber optic signals to long-wave, single-mode fiber optic signals (and vice versa). The device has two SC connectors:
Port
SM
MM Port
(1300 nm single-mode fiber) (850 nm multi-mode fiber)
The MIL-1225LS is a stand-alone device, and it has dual-redundant power supplies for better reliability.
Packaging Contents
The MIL-1225LS package contains the following:

Note:
A hybrid cable is recommend to compensate for the DMD (Differential Mode Delay) issue associated with gigabit speeds and some multi-mode fibers.
3. Connect a power cable to PWR1 . A second, optional power supply may be connected to the back-up power jack ( PWR2

5. Check the
SMSD LED and the
MMSD LED for proper status. This depends on the
status of the devices connected to the unit. They indicate a signal is being received on those ports.

Theory of Operation
The MIL-1225LS is a single-mode to multi-mode fiber converter for gigabit Ethernet networks. When the device receives an optical input signal from one port, it will convert it into an electrical signal. The device will then convert the electrical signal back to an optical signal suitable for transmission over the other port.

Indicators
There are 4 LED indicators on the MIL-1225LS:
PWR1 (Power One): This LED illuminates when the MIL-1225LS is receiving power on the primary power adapter.
PWR2
(Power Two): This LED illuminates when the MIL-1225LS is receiving
power on the (optional) back-up power adapter.
SMSD
(Single-Mode Signal Detect): This LED illuminates when MIL-1225LS
receives a valid link or data traffic signal from the device connected to the SMF
Port
MMSD (Multi-Mode Signal Detect): This LED illuminates when MIL-1225LS
receives a valid link or data traffic signal from the device connected to the MMF
Port
