SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS – This battery maintenance kit offers a wide

range of features to accommodate your needs. This manual will show you
how to use this kit safely and effectively. Please read, understand and follow
these instructions and precautions carefully, as this manual contains important
safety and operating instructions. The safety messages used throughout this
manual contain a signal word, a message and an icon.

The signal word indicates the level of the hazard in a situation.

Indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided,
will result in death or serious injury to the operator or bystanders.

Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided,
could result in death or serious injury to the operator or bystanders.

Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided,
could result in moderate or minor injury to the operator or
bystanders.

Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided,
could result in damage to the equipment or vehicle or property
damage.

Safety messages in this manual contain two different type styles.

Unnumbered type states the hazard.•

2 Amp 12 Volt/4 Amp 6 Volt SEARS Model 71219
battery charger.

See the separate operating instructions manual included
with the kit for use.

DIGITAL VOLTMETER2.

This digital voltmeter can be used to measure the battery and
charging system voltage of 6 volt and 12 volt systems. It has
a voltage range of 4.00 to 19.99 volts. NOTE: If you use this
voltmeter outside of the stated voltage range, you will get
inaccurate results. To use:

Place the probe on the red cable to the positive (POS, P, +) 1.
battery terminal.

Touch the brass probe on the bottom of the voltmeter to the negative 2.
(NEG, N, -) battery terminal.

Read the voltage on the digital display, and compare it to the table on the 3.
front of the voltmeter.

BATTERY WRENCHES 3.

Risk of explosive gases.

Working in the vicinity of a lead-acid battery is dangerous. Batteries 1.
generate explosive gases during normal battery operation. For this
reason, it is of utmost importance that you follow the instructions each
time you work with a lead acid battery.

To reduce the risk of a battery explosion, follow these instructions and 2.
those published by the battery manufacturer and the manufacturer of
any equipment you intend to use in the vicinity of the battery. Review the
cautionary markings on these products and on the engine.

NEVER smoke or allow a spark or ame in the vicinity of a battery 3.
or engine.

Be extra cautious to reduce the risk of dropping a metal tool onto the 4.
battery. It might spark or short-circuit the battery or other electrical part
that may cause an explosion.

Risk of contact with battery acid. Battery acid is a
highly corrosive sulfuric acid.

Consider having someone close enough by to come to your aid when you 5.
work near a lead-acid battery.

Have plenty of fresh water and soap nearby in case battery acid contacts 6.
your skin, clothing or eyes.

Wear complete eye and body protection, including safety goggles and 7.
protective clothing. Avoid touching your eyes while working near
the battery.

If battery acid contacts your skin or clothing, immediately wash the area 8.

with soap and water. If acid enters your eye, immediately ood the eye

with cold running water for at least 10 minutes and get medical attention
right away.

Always remove the grounded terminal rst. Make sure all of the 9.

accessories in the vehicle are off, to prevent arcing.
Be careful not to touch the metal parts of the frame or body with the 10.

wrench while removing the ungrounded battery terminal.
Clean the battery terminals before removing the battery. During cleaning, 11.

keep airborne corrosion from coming into contact with your eyes, nose
and mouth. Use baking soda and water to neutralize the battery acid and
help eliminate airborne corrosion. Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth.

Add distilled water to each cell until the battery acid reaches the level 12.

USING THE BATTERY TERMINAL WRENCHES3.1

All parts are heat treated and plated for lasting durability and good looks.

Ratcheting Box Wrench opening size: 5/16 in. on one side and 10mm on the
other side

Combination Wrench opening size: 1/2 in.

NOTE: Always remove the grounded terminal rst. The ground lead is

connected to the engine block, vehicle frame or some other good metallic
ground. The battery terminal connected to the starter is the one which is
not grounded. All vehicles manufactured in the U.S.A. after 1955 have the
negative battery terminal grounded. All European and Asian passenger
vehicles have been negative ground since 1971. Consult the vehicle owner’s
manual and follow all instructions.

USING THE 5/16 SIDE TERMINAL or 10mm TOP TERMINAL WRENCH3.2

While holding the insulated handle, apply the wrench to the negative (-) 1.
battery terminal.

Begin ratcheting to remove the battery connector nuts/bolts from both the 2.
negative (-) and the positive (+) battery terminals.

Remove the battery terminal connectors.3.
To replace the battery connectors, begin with the positive (+) battery 4.

terminal rst. Insert the bolt into the side terminal, or thread the nut onto

the battery connector bolt. Switch the thumb pawl on the wrench to
reverse the ratcheting action.

Using the wrench, tighten the positive (+) connector and then repeat the 5.
procedure with the negative (-) connector.

USING THE 1/2 in. TOP TERMINAL BATTERY WRENCH3.3

While holding the wrench, apply it to the negative (-) battery terminal.1.
Begin unscrewing the battery connector nuts to remove the connector 2.

from both the negative (-) and the positive (+) battery terminals.
Remove the battery terminal connectors.3.
To replace the battery connectors, begin with the positive (+) battery 4.

terminal rst. Thread the nut onto the battery connector bolt.

Using the wrench, tighten the positive (+) nut and then repeat the 5.
procedure with the negative (-) nut.

BATTERY TERMINAL CLEANING BRUSH4.

Risk of explosive gases.

USING THE BATTERY TERMINAL CLEANING BRUSH4.1

The brush removes corrosion and dirt from the battery
terminals and cable clamps and can be used on top mount
and side mount terminals. High-impact plastic case will not
corrode or soften the brush in cleaning solutions.

Following the instructions shown in the section Battery Wrenches to 1.
remove the battery cable connectors.

Use the brush as it comes in the kit to clean top mounted battery terminals 2.
by placing the brush over the terminal and twisting.

Separate the two pieces as shown to access the other brush to clean the 3.
battery cable connectors or side mounted battery terminals.

Wash your hands thoroughly when you are nished.4.

protect your eyes from splashes and ying particles, and
the adjustable frame legs are easy to adjust to t all head sizes.

Use them whenever you are working around the vehicle to protect •

CARRYING CASE6.

The black battery maintenance kit carrying case is made of molded plastic
with a two latch closure system. The inside is custom molded with labeled
cutouts for each item contained in the kit so you can quickly tell if you are
missing or need to replace any of the items to keep the battery maintenance
kit ready to use.

Lay the battery maintenance kit on the ground or other at surface with 1.

Open the case by ipping up the two latches that hold the case closed. 2.
Open the case completely and lay it at.
