1 Introduction
The BEETLE /M-III is equipped with the latest processors and has at its disposal a multitude of interfaces in order to enable connection of any peripheral that is required in the area of the teller position.
The device has been developed and produced without the use of environmentally hazardous substances and with the optimized use of electricity, gas and water. The construction materials used are largely recyclable.
1.1 About This Manual

This description is addressed exclusively to Technical Service personnel! Corresponding expertise in software and hardware configurations in the POS area, installation procedures, etc. are therefore prerequisite.
The manual describes the BEETLE/M-III system with the motherboards K1/K2, M1/M2 and O1. The M1/M2 board is preferred for display in the drawings, particularly for the installation/removal or opening of the system, which is why the rear views and overall views may not correspond to the configuration of your particular system. You can see the differences between the systems in the connection view.
In these Service instructions it is primarily the removal of components that is described. The installation of these components always proceeds in the reverse order. Special assembly instructions can be found in the respective sections as required.
Please read the entire documentation carefully before commencing any repair or maintenance measure.

The device may be repaired only by authorized qualified personnel. Improper repairs will lead to the loss of any liability claims.
2.1 ESD
Sub-assemblies with ElectroStatic Discharge-sensitive components (ESD) can be marked with this label.
When installing sub-assemblies or modules, please observe the following information that applies to all sub­assemblies with ESD:
– Ensure that the device is switched off and pull the power plug before you plug in, unplug or install sub-assem-
blies.
– Always use anti-static equipment (anti-static mat with ground cable with integrated leakage resistance of 1
Mohm, anti-static armband with connection to the mat, anti-statically equipped tools). The anti-static mat must be connected to a suitable grounding point via the leakage resistance.
– Place all sub-assemblies with ESD on a suitable anti-static base.
– Touch sub-assemblies with ESD only at their edges and do not touch any components.
– Do not touch any connector pins or conductor paths on an electrostatic-discharge-sensitive assembly.
2.2 System maintenance
Clean your system at regular intervals with a dry, lint-free cloth. For greater amounts of soiling, please use a cleaning agent suitable for plastic surfaces, as can be ordered from Diebold Nixdorf International. Make sure that the device is deactivated during cleaning, that the power plug is disconnected and that no fluid enters the inside of the device.
2.3 Tools required
The following took should be kept ready to hand for working on the BEETLE/ M-III:

2.4 Safety precautions
The BEETLE/M-III modular system corresponds to the pertinent safety precautions pertaining to data processing facilities.
– If this device is moved from a cold environment to its working environment, condensation may occur. The de-
vice must be absolutely dry prior to commissioning, therefore allow for an acclimatization time of at least two hours before putting it into operation.
– The device is equipped with a safety-tested power cable. It is permitted to be connected only to a properly
grounded protective contact electrical outlet.

– When installing the device, please ensure that the device plug-in fixture and the protective contact electrical
socket are easily accessible.
– The device must be fully disconnected from the supply voltage when performing any work at the device and
when inserting or removing data cables. To completely disconnect the appliance from the mains voltage, switch off the device and pull out the power plug of the power supply unit.
– USB devices may be connected to the BEETLE or removed from it during ongoing operations if these devices
comply with the specifications pursuant to usb.org. Other peripherals (e.g. PoweredUSB printer) should not – for safety reasons – be connected to or disconnected from BEETLE systems unless such systems are switched off.
– Before you begin any assembly work on the device, you should discharge yourself, e.g. by touching a grounded
object (such as a radiator).
– Please make sure that no objects (e.g. paperclips) are able to enter the inside of the device, as this may result
in electrical shocks or short circuits.
– Keep the air slots of the device free to ensure proper ventilation and please observe the installation instruc-
tions for the BEETLE. This prevents excessive increases in temperature.
– No data cables may be plugged in or unplugged during storms.
– Protect the device from vibrations, dust, moisture and heat.
– Make sure that used parts, e.g. the accumulator are disposed of in a way that is environmentally friendly.
– In the event of emergencies (e.g. damaged housing or damaged power cable, penetration of liquids or foreign
bodies), switch the device off immediately, pull the power plug and inform Technical Customer Service at Diebold Nixdorf International GmbH or the authorized service partner of your dealer.
– An explosion hazard exists if the lithium battery of the device is replaced incorrectly. Only identical batteries or
other types recommended by the manufacturer are permitted to be used to replace the lithium battery.
– Your BEETLE system is the result of state-of-the-art technical innovation. Please ensure therefore equally
state-of-the-art constructional and technical ambient conditions to permit flawless and efficient functioning of the BEETLE. You should connect the BEETLE or any other IT system only to power supply networks with sepa­rate protective conductors (PE). This type of power supply network is called a TN-S network. Do not use PEN conductors! Please also observe the recommendations of DIN VDE 0100 part 540, Annex C2. This will help you avoid any potential malfunc­tions.
– When replacing a storage medium, please ensure that you use only storage media authorized or recom-
mended by Diebold Nixdorf.

3 Installation and commissioning
3.1 Before switching on
Unpack the parts and check whether they correspond to the tasks listed on the delivery note.
If you should you detect any
– transport damage or inconsistencies between package content and the bill of delivery or function defects,
inform your sales outlet of Diebold Nixdorf immediately. Please specify delivery note number, delivery note item number and serial number of the affected device when doing so. The serial number is located on the label shown here on the underside of the housing.
The serial number is located on the label below the barcode.
NOTICE
Please do not fail to check the function of the original device before making changes (e.g. by installing a expan­sion card). Only then may a functional deficiency be recognized as grounds for complaint.
NOTICE
We recommend that you keep the original packaging for any subsequent transport that may become necessary (protection against jolts and impact).

7 Setting up the device
Install the BEETLE/ M III POS system in such a way that it is not subjected to extreme ambient conditions. Protect devices against vibrations, dust, moisture, heat and strong magnetic fields.
Please adhere to the listed minimum distances in front of and behind the device! While installing the device, make sure that you absolutely adhere to the minimum distances and ensure reliable aeration and ventilation. The direct ambient temperature of the system must not exceed 40°C (104°F).
NOTICE
In cases where cable cover is used, a distance of 60 mm (2.36") must also be maintained behind that cover.
7.1 Vertical installation
The distances for free convection must also be adhered to in conjunction with vertical installation in a closed teller cabinet.
Minimum distances To the rear 60 mm (2.35") To the front 50 mm (1.97")
In cases of installation with cable cover, a distance of 60 mm (2.36") must be maintained behind that cover. The minimum front clearance distance of 50 mm (1.97") must be maintained.
The device can be set up on the right or left side.

7.2 Cabling the BEETLE /M-III
The installation of the device has to be carried out in the following sequence:
– The cable cover must be removed if present.
– Make sure that the power plug on the rear side of the housing has been pulled out.
– Plug in the data cables and secure them.
NOTICE
Never plug in data or power supply cables when the system is switched on!

8 Connecting the device
All devices that are part of the BEETLE/MIII modular POS system and that have their own dedicated mains voltage cable must be connected to the same electric circuit.
You should connect the BEETLE or any other IT system only to power supply networks with separate protective conductors (PE). This type of power supply network is called a TN-S network. Do not use PEN conductors! Please also observe the recommendations of DIN VDE 0100 part 540, Annex C2. This will help you avoid any potential malfunctions.
– Please ensure that all data cables are plugged in at the system unit and that the peripherals are plugged in cor-
rectly.
– First attach all power cables of the peripherals and the power cable of the BEETLE/M-III into the contactor con-
tact electrical sockets of the house installation.
NOTICE
The power supply unit can be connected to all standard voltage networks. It automatically adjusts itself to the particular voltage. An internal fan provides the necessary cooling.
Plug the power cable into the socket on the rear of the device.

The LED (PWR) on the front side lights up in orange (Standby) and thus indicates operational readiness.
Briefly press the On / Off button on the front side of the housing to switch on the device. The LED changes to green in operating mode.

9 Assembling the cable cover
A cable cover is optionally available in the scope of delivery of your BEETLE /M-III.
A pre-punched cable entry should be removed if required before attaching the cable cover.
No tools are required, the pre-punched opening can be loosened by hand at the predetermined breaking point.
To install the cable cover, first set the web of the cover on the left side on the rail at the rear side of the BEETLE / M-III. Pull the right side outwards and set this as well on the rail provided for that purpose.

To open the front panel, press the unlocking mechanism towards the front.
Push the orifice plate to the side (1) and remove it towards the front (2).

11 Detaching cables
Never disconnect cables by pulling them on the cable itself but always grip them on the connector housing provided for that purpose instead. To detach the cables proceed as described below:
– Switch off all network and periphery device switches.
– Remove the cable cover.
– Pull all power cables out of the contactor contact electrical sockets of the house installation.
– Pull all data communications cables from the plug connections of the data networks.
– Detach all cables at the devices.
The Mini-DIN plugs are equipped with an interlock against unintended disengagement. To disengage this plug, pull the plastic sleeve away from the socket. The interlock is released. The metal of the plug is visible.
To disengage an RJ12 plug, press the tab below the plug upwards.
Disengage the USB-A plug by pulling on the plug housing.

The electrically supplied USB plug is disengaged by pressing on the spring marked with the arrow.
Interface connector (COM/DVI/VGA) with knurled screw can be disengaged by hand.
To loosen a RJ45 plug, press the tab above the plug (see arrow) downwards.

12 Removing the housing hood
The housing hood of the BEETLE/M-III must be removed in order to install and remove components.
Remove the cable cover if installed.
NOTICE
First, take care to ensure that the device is switched off and that the supply voltage plug is pulled out.
Disengage the knurled screws on the rear side of the system. Slide the housing hood somewhat out of the front guide and pull the hood upwards from the housing.

You have at your disposal the following storage media: a 3.5" SATA-hard disk or two 2.5" SATA hard disks or one or two 2.5" Solid State Drives.
14.1 Replacing a 3.5" SATA hard disk
Shut down the system. Remove the cable cover and pull the power plug at the rear.
Remove the housing cover.
NOTICE
Observe the instructions regarding electrostatic discharge-sensitive assemblies (see chapter "Electrostatic dis­charge-sensitive components").
Fold open the hard disk carrier upwards and pull the data cable and the power supply cable from the 3.5" hard disk.

Remove the four screws of the 3.5" hard disk with a Phillips head screwdriver.
Re-install the hard disk holder following the steps in reverse order.

14.4 Replacing two 2.5" hard drives or SSD
Shut down the system. Remove the cable cover and pull the power plug at the rear.
Remove the housing cover.
NOTICE
Observe the instructions regarding electrostatic discharge-sensitive assemblies (see chapter "Electrostatic dis­charge-sensitive parts").
Fold open the hard disk carrier upwards and pull the data cables and the power supply cables from the 2.5" hard disks.

Remove the hard drive carrier.

Remove the four screws of each hard disk with a Torx screwdriver. Hold the hard disks securely with one hand while loosening the screws in order to protect them from falling.
Remove the hard disks. Fasten the new inserted hard disks using the screws removed earlier.
Observe the correct installation position and the correct interfaces on the motherboard (see chapter "SATA ports on the motherboard").
Re-install the hard disk holder following the steps in reverse order.
14.4.1 For hard disks or SSD with front access
Shut down the system. Remove the cable cover and pull the power plug at the rear.
NOTICE
Observe the instructions regarding electrostatic discharge-sensitive assemblies (see chapter "Electrostatic dis­charge-sensitive components").
Remove the front panel (see chapter "Removing the front panel").
Unlock the hard disk holders using the key provided (note the interlock symbols).

Pull on the green belt to remove the carrier together with the hard disk.
Bend the carrier side somewhat outwards and take out the hard disk. No tools are required.

Set the new hard disk in the carrier. The knobs of the carrier (see arrows in the photo) engage thereby in the boreholes of the hard disk and fix it in place.
When inserting the new hard disk into the carrier, take care to ensure that the terminal strip is at the back and that the label appears at the top.
Slide the carrier into the insert point until it engages. Sliding the carrier in causes the hard disk to be connected to the installation board of the plug-in
Proceed accordingly when replacing a second hard drive.
Lock the hard disk carrier with the key.

15 Using photoconductors
In order to display the status of the RAID system on the front panel, a photoconductor must be installed from the two SMD-LEDs on the motherboard to the front panel.
Insert the photoconductor from inside into the front panel (1) and press the photoconductor downwards (2).
Take care to ensure correct fit of the photoconductor next to the SATA ports on the motherboard.

16 Replacing the accumulator
The accumulator bypasses an eventual power failure for up to 15 minutes and enables a controlled termination of the POS program (see below "Safety in the event of power failure").
For the operation of an accumulator, the BEETLE /M-III must be equipped with a special UPS power supply unit.
Each accumulator has a limited service life. They should all replaced after no more than a five-year period.
DANGER
An explosion hazard exists if the accumulator is replaced incorrectly.
Only identical types or by types recommended by the manufacturer are permitted as replacements for the accu­mulator.
NOTICE
First, take care to ensure that the device is switched off and that the supply voltage plug is pulled out.
Remove the cable cover at the rear of the housing.
Disengage the two knurled screws at the rear and lift the housing cover slightly. Pull the cover off the housing towards the rear.
Disengage the battery cable.

Take care to ensure that the latches at the top on the plug are released. Disconnect the plug from the socket.
Lift the accumulator up slightly at the front (1) and pull it out upwards at an angle out of the system (2).
Replace the accumulator and set the new one in the position of the old one. Plug the battery cable into the socket.
Mount the housing cover and screw it in place. Attach the cable cover.
Observe the necessary settings after replacement of the accumulator (see following chapter).

16.1 Settings after the replacement
The following settings must be implemented in order to integrate the new accumulator into the system.
– Click with the left mouse button on the Windows start menu. The following display appears:

Here in the example, the text appears in English; in a German-language version it would be displayed in German.
– Press the folder WINCOR UPS SOFTWARE
– The folder opens. Press on UPS SOFTWARE MONITOR

– The menu appears in the following:
Select the menu item "LocalUPSMAN via TCP/IP".
– The UPS monitor opens.

– Press the red button at top in the menu strip (see arrow).
and click on the "Start new battery charge cycle" button (see arrow) in the Remote Functions menu.

Shut down the system. Remove the cable cover and pull the power plug at the rear. Remove the housing hood.

Fold the hard disk holder upwards and set it aside.
Remove the cables from the holders (see arrow) of the air duct. The removal of the air duct does not apply for a BEETLE/M-III with an O1 motherboard.
Disengage all power cables (3 on the motherboard, 2 on the Retail card, 1 on the hard disks).

Remove the air duct upwards.
Remove three screws on the rear side and one on the side of the BEETLE/M-III.
Remove the power supply unit upwards from the housing.

Assemble the device following the steps in reverse order.
NOTICE
The DMI files must be updated after a change in power supply units with respect to the serial number.
17.1 For a BEETLE /M-III with UPS
Shut down the system. Remove the cable cover and pull the power plug at the rear.
Remove the housing hood.

Fold the hard disk holder upwards and set it aside.
To open the front panel, press the unlocking mechanism towards the front.

Push the orifice plate to the side (1) and remove it towards the front (2).

Remove the screw on the carrier holder at the rear.
Remove the screws of the carrier holder on the front side of the system.

Lift the accumulator up slightly at the rear and pull it out upwards at an angle out of the system.
Unhook the Battery Backup Unit (BBU), set it aside and remove the carrier.

Remove the cables from the holders of the air duct. The description of the air duct and Retail care does not apply for a BEETLE/M-III with an O1 motherboard.

Disengage all power cables (3 on the motherboard, 2 on the Retail card, 1 on the hard disk).
Disconnect the power cable from the PoweredUSB hub.

Disengage the two screws of the USB hub and pull the hub towards the rear out of the housing.
Disengage the data conductor on the USB hub to the BBU.

Thread the data cable (1) to the BBU and the power supply (2) through under the Retail card.

Shut down the system. Remove the cable cover and pull the power plug at the rear. Remove the housing hood.

Fold the hard disk holder upwards and set it aside.
Disengage the cable on the Retail card. Neither a Retail card nor an air duct is included with a BEETLE/MIII with O1 motherboard.
Remove the cables from the holders (see arrow) of the air duct.

Remove the air duct upwards.
Press the iron sheet tabs outwards to open the locking mechanism on both sides of the RAM base.
Always begin with the upper base when you wish to remove the RAM strips.
NOTICE
If only one RAM strip is to be used, then plug it into the lower base.
The RAM strip folds out of the socket and can be removed.
Insert the new RAM-strip into the base and press the strip downwards until it audibly latches into place.
The coding of the RAM strip (indentation) prevents incorrect insertion.
Assemble the device following the steps in reverse order.

Note system-specific BIOS settings in order to enter these again after replacing the battery.
Shut down the system. Remove the cable cover and pull the power plug at the rear. Remove the housing cover.
Fold the hard disk holder upwards and set it aside.

1 Battery 2 Latching mechanism
Disengage the battery-latching mechanism. Pull the tabs outwards and remove the battery.
Set the new battery in the base. Press the battery down until it snaps audibly into place. Ensure correct polarity (plus pole faces upwards).
After the replacement of the battery, all BIOS settings are reset to the default values. Go into the BIOS setup (with F2 key during the Boot phase) and re-enter the customer-specific BIOS settings.
NOTICE
The DMI data and the password are not deleted.

This chapter does not apply for a BEETLE/M-III with an O1 motherboard.
Shut down the system. Remove the cable cover and pull the power plug at the rear.
Remove the housing hood.

Fold the hard disk holder upwards and set it aside.
Remove the cables from the holders of the air duct. No air duct is installed for a BEETLE/M-III with O1 motherboard.

20.1 Installation in headwords
Mount the processor carefully. While doing so, take care to ensure that the marking on the processer (two notches) match those of the base (two lugs).
Close the processer base, reposition the lever and lock it.
NOTICE
Before the cooling element is used, the old thermal paste must be removed from the cooling element.
NOTICE
It is mandatory to apply some thermally conductive paste on the underside of the cooling element before attach­ing the cooling element, as only doing so will ensure sufficient cooling. The contact surface between cooling ele­ment and processer must be covered completely with a thin layer of paste. A corresponding kit with a new counter-cross is enclosed with the new processer.
Set the cooling element on the processer and tighten the screws hand-tight in cross-wise sequence.

Shut down the system. Remove the cable cover and pull the power plug at the rear. Remove the housing hood.

Pull out the plug for the power supply and the plug for the control of the interfaces on the power unit (till drawer, 24 V USB) from the Retail card.

The combination module is comprised of LED, Beeper and Power-Taster.
Shut down the system. Remove the cable cover and pull the power plug at the rear.
Remove the housing hood.

Bend the tab of the module slightly into the housing interior and remove the module upwards.
Disengage the plug of the module from the motherboard.

Remove the eight screws on the rear side of the BEETLE/M-III.
Lift the motherboard to the front side of the device and lift it out of the housing.
Apply the processer with the cooling element on the new motherboard (see chapter "Switching processers").
Remove the RAM strips from the old motherboard and insert them on the new motherboard (see chapter "Memory expansion").
Set the new motherboard in the housing and follow the previous steps in reverse order.

27.1 Reset Password
The system remains switched off. Plug the jumper in at Position 1-2 of the Config Connector (arrow) on the motherboard. Switch the system on. Press the F2 key to access BIOS Setup. The existing password is deleted. You can now assign a password or also simply exit the BIOS once again.

29.3 Total current consumption interfaces
The total current consumption at 5 V interfaces must not exceed 5 A:

This device meets the requirements of the EU Guidelines 2014/30/EU "Electromagnetic Compatibility" and 2014/35/EU “Low Voltage Directive” and 2011/65/EU "Restriction of Hazardous Substances". For this, it bears the CE label on the rear side or the icon is printed on the packaging. If a device is to be equipped with WLAN, then this fulfills the requirements of the "Radio Equipment Di­rective" 2014/53/EU.
The device is UL and cUL certified.
30.1 Guarantee
In general, Diebold Nixdorf (DN) guarantees a warranty of 12 months after delivery or acceptance date. This warranty covers all defects that have occurred during normal use of the product.
Defects resulting from incorrect or inadequate maintenance, incorrect use or any unauthorized changes to the product, unsuitable locations or unsuitable environments are not covered.
All wear parts are also not covered by warranty.
More details about the warranty regulation can be found in your contract documents.
If no claim to product warranty exists and if you do not have a service contract with Diebold Nixdorf, then the Customer Care Center (CCC) is available for accepting orders without a contract.
30.2 Recycling
This product was designed in accordance with our internal standard "Environmentally friendly product design and development".
The system is manufactured without the use of CFC and CHC and the majority of the components and materials used in its manufacture are recyclable.
You are helping us with the recycling if you do not attach any labels to the device.
For materials which currently cannot be used for a new purpose, Diebold Nixdorf International offers environmentally friendly disposal at a recycling center that is certified in accordance with ISO 9001 and ISO
14001.
If your system can no longer be used, please send it in for this environmentally friendly and contemporary form of recycling.
