Variable Time Settings
The FX430/435/320 can be programmed to fax a chart on a daily, weekly, monthly, or alarm only basis. You can select the time at which the unit will send you the chart (daily) or both the date and time (weekly or monthly) For a daily fax, the data graph consists of data from midnight to midnight. For a weekly fax, data graph starts on Sunday and nishes on Saturday at midnight. For a monthly fax, the data graph starts on the rst of the month and goes till the end of the month. A monthly graph has enough space for 31 days worth of

Reset:
Before the unit can be used, it is recommended that it be reset. This is accomplished by pressing and holding the “ON” and “SET” keys simultaneously for 2 seconds. A scrolling message will appear stating that you are about to reset and clear the logger. You may abort by pressing “ESC” or continue by pressing “SET”. When you hit “SET”, the unit will clear all data and reset itself. You must now wait at least 15 minutes while chart axes are reconstructed internally before a fax may be sent.

data. If the month has less than 31 days in it, then there will be some extra blank space leftover on the chart. If the faxing interval is set to “Alarms”, then you will only get a fax when an alarm situation occurs and it will only be the most recent days worth of data. But if you disable the alarms, then you will only get a fax when the unit is disconnected from A.C. power. Selecting “Disable” in the enable alarms menu only disables the capacity of the Temperature and/or Humidity minimums and maximums triggering the sending of a fax.

will clear the logger. You have the choice of continuing by pressing “SET”, or aborting by pressing “ESC”. If the scrolling message does not appear, try the key sequence again, holding the keys slightly longer or shorter times. Clearing and resetting, or Reset are ignored while a fax is being sent.
Troubleshooting
First, inspect the unit for signs of physical damage which should indicate abuse, or that it has been dropped or exposed to dust, dirt, corrosive fumes or liquids.
Unit dials out but I get no fax:
• Are you dialing the correct phone number?
• Is there toner in the receiving fax machine?
• Has the unit been connected to power or is the battery dead?
• Is the AC adapter working?
• Has the unit been set up properly?
I programmed name and location but they don’t show on the fax received:
• Did you do a system reset (“ON & “SET” keys) and wait 15 minutes?
None of the keys work:
• Has the unit been connected to power or is the battery dead?
• Is the AC adapter working?
• Is the unit sending a fax? Keys are disabled during sending a fax and are not supposed to work.
• Not sending a fax? Try pressing “ON” & “ESC” to reset it.
Clearing and Resetting:
To clear all data and reset the unit, press and hold the “ON” key and the “SET” key for 2 seconds, and then release the keys. A scrolling message should appear warning you that continuing with this operation will clear the logger. You have the choice of continuing by pressing “SET”, or aborting by pressing “ESC”. Pressing “SET” will clear the logger. If the scrolling message does not appear, try the key sequence again, holding the keys slightly longer or shorter times.
Unit will not dial out:
• Is the phone line you are connecting to an analog line? It won’t work on a digital type line or system.
Alarms and Messages
Included on the faxed chart is a set of conditional symbols that tell you under what circumstances the fax was sent.
1. Fax On Demand
This indicates that the chart was sent when the user pressed the “Send Fax” button. A normal timed fax, (one that gets sent when the faxing interval time occurs) will not have this message on it.
2. Alarm
This indicates that the fax was initiated by an alarm condition. These occur when conditions exceed those that are programmed in the alarm minimums and maximums. (See Programming the Unit, Setting Alarm Mins and Maxs section) or the AC power has been disconnected. The particular condition that triggered the alarm fax is indicated by an icon. Descriptions follow:
3. Thermometer
This means that the temperature has exceeded one of the minimum or maximum values that is programmed to trigger an alarm situation. For an FX320, thermocouple model, there is a thermometer icon for each channel.
4. %RH (only on humidity units)
This means that the relative humidity has exceeded
Once the unit is cleared and reset, you must now wait at least 15 minutes while chart messages are reconstructed internally before a fax may be sent.
Resetting the Unit:
To reset to a normal state, WITHOUT CLEARING DATA, press and hold “ON” and “ESC” simultaneously for 2 seconds. This may be used in the case where the display freezes up.
• Do you have to use an access code to get an outside line?
• Is power connected and is the battery good?
• Are you dialing the right number?
• Is the modular cable good and plugged into the right jack (top one) also, is it plugged into correct jack on the wall?
There is a blank space in the data graph:
• Does the blank space correspond to the time when the fax was being sent? If yes, logging is disabled during a fax transmission and this is normal.
The Display doesn’t work:
• Is the unit connected to AC power? If not, unit is in sleep mode.
Reset:
To reset the unit, but not clear the saved, press and hold the “ON” and “ESC” keys for 2 seconds.
The readings are incorrect:
Return the unit to Dickson for calibration.
Only one of the graphs show:
Temps > 100˚ or < 0˚ will not be seen. If RH graph shows but no temperature and the unit is in an environment ranging from 0-100 then one of the internal sensors could be bad and needs to be replaced. Return unit for repair.
It faxes, but the graph area is blank or partial:
The unit actually stores two days worth of data. At midnight, the unit switches from writing data to the previous day’s chart, to writing for the present day’s chart. If the unit is set up for a timed fax, and there has not been a complete previous period’s worth of data logged, then the fax may appear blank or have blank areas. The unit has been pre-programmed at the factory to sent the previous day’s graph at 1:00AM. If you elect to change this time, it may take up to 2 days before a full chart of data will be seen.
one of the minimum or maximum values that is programmed to trigger an alarm situation.
5. Battery Mode
This indicates a loss of AC power to the unit and that it is running on backup battery.
1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
FAX ON
DEMAND
If the alarms are disabled (see Programming the Unit, Enabling the Alarms section), then Temperature and/or %RH minimums and maximums will not generate an alarm fax. However, the battery mode alarm will still occur if the unit is disconnected from AC power.

If you choose “YES” in the “SET ALARMS” menu, the next menus you see will be where you can adjust the minimum and maximum temperatures or humidity which will trigger an alarm situation. The Yes/No screen just allows you to skip over four more menu options if you have no need to change any of them at this time. The values are saved in memory and exist even when alarms are not enabled. They can can be turned on or off at any time. Any one of the min/max settings can be modied independently of the others. If you only want to change one of them, you can adjust it, program it and skip over setting the others. Or, you can modify all of them, or any combination you want. For each of these menus there is a two second delay and then the screen will switch to a display of the current setting for that particular min/max adjustment. To adjust the value, press the “DOWN” or “UP” keys to decrease or increase the number by 1, and to ne tune, press the “LEFT” or “RIGHT” keys to decrease or increase the number by .1 or one tenth. To save any adjusted setting, press the “SET” key. To exit without saving, press the “ESC” key. If you need to re-program any other mins or maxs, just press “SET” until you get to the menu choice you want, then wait for the 2 second delay to take you to the edit screen. Note: Maximum and minimum values are limited by the range of temperatures or humidity that the unit is capable of withstanding.
There are currently ve alarm conditions:
“Alarm Temp Min” “Alarm Temp Max” “Alarm RH Min” “Alarm RH Max” “Battery Mode” If the unit senses an alarm condition continuously for more than (about) 10 seconds it will start sending an alarm fax. The alarm fax will indicate all alarm conditions currently active. High/Low just show as Ch. 1 and Ch. 2 or temperature and %RH. Once an alarm condition has been faxed, it will not send another fax until midnight has been passed, or the system block has been reset.
If, however, another different alarm condition occurs, all current alarm conditions will show on the fax. The Battery Mode alarm level is preset at the factory and is not adjustable.
Clearing and Resetting:
To clear all data and reset the unit, press and hold the “ON” key for 2 seconds, then press and hold the “SET” key for 2 seconds, and then release the keys. A scrolling message should appear warning you that continuing with this operation will clear the logger. You have the choice of continuing by pressing “SET”, or aborting by pressing “ESC”. If the scrolling message does not appear, try the key sequence again, holding the keys slightly longer or shorter times. Clearing and resetting, or Reset are ignored while a fax is being sent.
Setting Fax Date and Time:
Next Fax Date
This menu option will appear if you have selected a faxing interval of weekly or monthly. You program the Next-Fax-Date in the same way as the internal clock date, (see Setting Date and Time).
Next Fax Time
This value is programmed in the same way as the “Set Time” mode, (see Setting Date and Time). It also uses the same military time system. For a daily fax interval, this setting determines what time the fax will be sent every day. For a weekly or monthly fax interval, this setting determines the time the fax will be sent on the date that was programmed as the Next-Fax-Date.
Default Fax Date and Time
If you do not program a time and/or date for the fax to occur, the unit will use the factory pre-set default values. For a daily fax, the default Fax Time is 1:00 AM. For a weekly fax, the default is Sunday at 1:00 AM. for a monthly fax, the default is 1:00 AM the rst of the month.

Operating Information
Power Supply:
We recommend using the supplied AC adapter with one 9V battery installed as a back-up power source. This ensures that your recording will not be interrupted when there is a power failure.
To replace the back-up battery:
1. Keep unit plugged into the AC adapter while changing the battery
2. Unscrew 4 screws in recessed holes on back of the unit
3. Replace 9V battery
4. Replace back cover and 4 screws holding it
Telephone Jacks:
If you are looking at the unit from the front, and the unit is in its upright position, the two RJ-11 telephone jacks will be on the right side of the unit. The top jack is used to connect the logger to the telephone line and the bottom jack to an optional telephone using a standard RJ-11 modular phone plug. This unit does not require a dedicated phone line. It will work with any analog phone line. It will not work as an extension of a business telephone system. Up to 12 units may be placed on a single phone line as long as the total Ringer Equivalence Number on the line does not exceed 5.0. The units should be programmed to call out at different times, Staggered by a minimum of 30 minute increments (see gure 4). An explanation of Ringer Equivalence is provided in the section labeled “The Dickson Warranty”.

General:
The FX430/435 logs data and formats it for display on a faxed chart. At the end of the faxing interval period, it will begin a new chart for the next period. The previous chart will be faxed to the “FAX TO NUMBER” when the “NEXT FAX TIME” occurs. If the transmission is unsuccessful, it will retry every 10 minutes for up to 24 hours or until the “SEND FAX” key is pressed. Pressing the “SEND FAX” key will send the chart currently being built. If you want to cancel the fax in retry mode, press “ON” and “ESC” buttons. While sending a fax, data logging is temporarily interrupted. This will appear as a small gap in the graphed data for as much time as it took to complete the fax transmission.
