DC CONTROLLERS

The DHA DC Controller acts as a power supply and speed control for the full range
of Varispeed effects units. It has four independent channels each giving control of
speed and direction of rotation.
Control
Each of four rotary knobs on the front panel controls speed and direction of one
effect.

DMX DC CONTROLLER
The OMX DC Controller provides powe r and speed control for Varispeed effects in
t he same way as the Mk4 version . It is intended for remote control via a DMX512
signa l. Alt ernat ively, effect speeds can be preset on the front panel controls .
Control
The outpu t ci rcuitry of the OMX DC Cont rolle r is identical to that of the DC
Controlle r Mk4 ; speed range , bi-directional dr ive , load compensation and output
protection are all maintained . In addit ion to the c onvenience of the OMX system the
OMX DC Controller offers greater accuracy and allows effects to be easily
repeated . Effects can be programmed , along with other lighting , directly into a cue
sequence on a suitable lighting console.
Connections
The un it is fitted with two 4-pin female XLR connectors for controlling two
Varispeed effects (each connector carries two channels so additional signal
splitters can be used to control 4 effects) . Also , two 5-pin XLR connectors are
fitted for OMX IN and OUT. Mains connection is via a fuse-protected IEC inlet on
the front panel and a cable is supplied . Full interconnection instructions are
provided with the unit .
NOTE: Output, Connector and use of Splitter as per DC Controller Mk4
DMX Operation
In OMX mode the DC Controller responds to eight consecutive channels of DMX512
data - the start address being set on the front panel. Each of the

Controller outputs is controlled by two OMX channels. On the lighting console each
effect appears as two level controls - one for forward speed and
one for reverse .
Preset Operation
In the absence of a suitable OMX signal the four
rotary switches on the front panel allow the levels
of the four output channels to be preset.
Each channel can be assigned a speed on
an arbitrary
O to 9 scale .
Mounting
Although free-standing, this device is
particularly suited to 48mm bar mounting .
Cabling to Moving Effects devices can be
greatly shortened by siting the DC
Controller alongside the lantern and effect .
This requires the appropriate DC Controller
mounting kit.

DIMDAT DC CONTROLLER
The Dimdat DC Controller is the smaller stable companion to the DC Controller
Mk4 and the OMX DC Controller, providing power and speed control for Varispeed
effects directly from a dimmer rack .
CONTROL AND OPERATION
The Dimdat plugs directly from a Varispeed effects unit into a dimmer whereupon
the dimmer is controlled in the usual way, with the speed of movement in the
effects unit being increased or decreased according to the level at which the
dimmer is set . Each unit can operate two single effects units (eg single gobo
rotator or animation unit) or one double gobo rotator . Direction of movement is
fixed. In the case of a double gobo rotator each gobo will move in opposite
directions, but full control over individual speeds is still possible. Direction of
movement in a single effects unit can be altered by means of a splitter (Signals
from pins 1&2 give clockwise motion, pins 3&4 give anti-clockwise) . Effects can
be programmed , along with other lighting, directly into a cue sequence on a suitable
lighting console . A load lamp may be required on some dimmers .
CONNE CTIONS
The unit is fitted with one 4-pin female XLR connector for controlling one Varispeed
effect (the connector carries two channels so an additional splitter can be used to
control 2 effects) . Mains supply is via two leads which are ready for connection
to the dimmer racks (plugs not supplied) . Full interconnection instructions are
provided with the unit.

makes it neat and unobtrusive even under
