2 INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing a DEV 24xx Passive Combiner or Splitter. This customer documentation is intended to familiarize you with the installation and with the operation of the product.
The products of this series were developed to combine, or to distribute signals for digital TV and broadcasting applications in the frequency range of the CATV-Band.
DEV Systemtechnik GmbH declares that this equipment meets all relevant standards and rules. The unit carries a CE mark.
Please read all instructions before installation or usage of the product!
2.1 WARRANTY
The product has a warranty against defects in material and workmanship for a period of two years from the date of shipment. During the warranty period DEV Systemtechnik will, at its option, either repair or replace the product if it turns out to be defective.
For warranty, service, or repair, the product must be returned to DEV Systemtechnik. The customer has to pay shipping charges to DEV Systemtechnik and DEV Systemtechnik will pay shipping charges to return the product to the customer. However, the customer is obliged to pay all duties, all taxes, and all other additional costs arising from the shipment of the product.
2.2 LIMITATION OF WARRANTY
The preceding warranty does not apply to defects resulting from:
improper site preparation or site maintenance; improper or inadequate interfacing of the product; unauthorized modification or misuse of the product; improper or inadequate maintenance of the product; operation beyond the environmental conditions specified for the product.

3 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The DEV 24xx products being subject of this customer documentation provide 1, 2, 4, 8, or 16 passive combiner units or passive splitter units; each unit with one common port and with 2, 4, 8, 16, or 32 input or output ports. The impedance of the products is 75 Ohm with precision F connectors; all ports are DC free and DC blocked. This manual comprises the following 8 combiner and 7 splitter products:

A monitor port is provided at the rear side of the combiner products DEV 2404, DEV 2408, DEV 2416, DEV 2428 and of the splitter products DEV 2405, DEV 2409, and of the DEV 2417 carrying the combined output signal or the split input signal at a reduced level. Except the DEV 2404 and the DEV 2405, these products are delivered in a compact 1 RU chassis.
The housings of the combiner units or of the splitter units applied for the DEV 2404, DEV 2405, DEV 2441, DEV 2442, DEV 2443, DEV 2461, DEV 2462, and DEV 2463 are assembled directly at a 1 RU front panel, thus providing minimum depth of the device.

4 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
4.1 SCOPE OF DELIVERY

4.2 INSTALLATION OF THE PRODUCT
4.2.1 Mechanical Integration of the Product in a 19" Rack
For the integration in a 19" rack, the lightweight devices DEV 2404, DEV 2405, DEV 2441, DEV 2442, DEV 2443, DEV 2461, DEV 2462, and DEV 2463 can be directly fixed to the rack using the four rack mount flanges. For the integration of a DEV 2408, DEV 2409, DEV 2416, DEV 2417, DEV 2428, or of a DEV 2432 the rack slots must be prepared with rails for the chassis. After inserting the chassis in the rack, fix the chassis with four screws to the rack at its rack mount flanges.

DEV 2408, DEV 2416, & D EV 2428
The devices DEV 2404, DEV 2405, DEV 2441, DEV 2442, DEV 2443, DEV 2461, DEV 2462, and DEV 2463, are delivered with a grounding cable of ~200 mm length already assembled to the grounding bolt (G, left in the figure above) of the product, which is located on the left at the rear side of the panel. The open end of this grounding cable provides a ring tongue terminal. It is recommended to assemble this cable end to a point of the rack providing ground potential.
The grounding bolt of the DEV 2408, DEV 2409, DEV 2416, DEV 2417, DEV 2428, and of the DEV 2432 is located on the left at the rear side of the chassis. It is recommended to connect these products to the 19" rack via an external grounding cable. To assemble the grounding cable to the grounding bolt (G, right in the figure above), please take off the upper nut and the first washer and connect the grounding cable, which must have a ring tongue terminal matching for the M4 fastening bolt. Then the washer and the nut have to be tightened again.

4.2.3 Connection of RF Signal Cables
Please refer to the product drawings provided in chapter 3.1 for the location and for the functionality of the different RF connectors on a combiner or on a splitter and –if applicable- for the naming of the single combiner/splitter units.
Apply strain relieves to the external RF cables which are to be connected in a way that the connectors of the device are not stressed mechanically.
When connecting RF cables to the chassis, each connector is to be tightened with a torque wrench. The torque applied to 75 Ohm F connectors should not exceed 4.5 Nm (39.8 lbf-in).
Note: For the products of this series, female precision F connectors are
applied. Make sure that the applied connectors are male precision F connectors (with thin inner conductor).
Recommendation for the input wiring of a combiner DEV 2404,
DEV 2408, DEV 2416, DEV 2428, DEV 2432, DEV 2462, and DEV 2463: Best signal quality is achieved by connecting the signal sources symmetrically to the input ports:
1…4 of the (each) 4:1 combiner (unit);
1…4 and 5…8 of the (each) 8:1 combiner (unit);
1…4 / 5…8 and 9…12 / 13…16 of the 16:1 combiner; and
1…4 / 5…8, 9…12 / 13…16 and 17…20 / 21…24, 25…28 / 29…32
of the 32:1 combiner; and by connecting impedance matched loads to the unused input ports of the (each) combiner (unit). The latter applies for the combiner units of the DEV 2461, as well.
Recommendation for the output wiring of a splitter DEV 2405, DEV 2409,
DEV 2417, DEV 2442, and DEV 2443: Best signal quality is achieved by connecting the signal receivers symmetrically to the output ports:
1…4 of the (each) 1:4 splitter (unit);
1…4 and 5…8 of the (each) 1:8 splitter (unit); and
1…4 / 5…8 and 9…12 / 13…16 of the (each) 1:16 splitter (unit);
and by connecting impedance matched loads to the unused output ports of the (each) splitter (unit). The latter applies for the splitter units of the DEV 2441, as well.
4.3 MAINTENANCE OF THE PRODUCT
The product is maintenance-free. Cleaning of the surface of the chassis should be done carefully with a dry lint-free cloth.

5 OPERATION OF THE PRODUCT
After going through the installation steps as described above, the device is ready to use.
Due to the structure of this series of passive combiners/splitters, there is no need to interact with the device after the installation. No indicators and no actuators are installed which need to be operated or to be maintained.
