INTRODUCTION
The Model 8440 Baby Scale is a 44lb (20kg) capacity digital baby scale. The scale is equipped with a collapsible baby tray for easy storage and additional features like weight memory and the ability to calculate weight differences.
This manual contains information on the operation of this scale. Please read it before attempting to use the scale and keep it handy for future reference.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Press this key to save the value and date and time of the current weight on the scale platform.
Press this key to display the weight and date and time of previously saved weight.
Press this key to display the difference between the current weight and the saved weight and then the date and time of the saved weight.
This key is used to begin the clock (time and date) setting
This key is used when setting the clock to adjust the time and date.
Press and hold this key to toggle between the time mode and weighing mode.

Hold / Release
Press this key to hold the weight on the display. Press again to release. Weight must be greater than 2.2 lb/1 kg.
Press this key to zero the scale before starting the weighing operation or to zero off the weight of any item (i.e. protective paper, blanket or pad) on the scale.

INSTALLATION
Unpacking
Before beginning installation of your scale, make certain the instrument has been receiv ed in good condition. When removing the scale from its packing, inspect it for signs of damage, such as exterior dents and scratches. Keep the carton and packing material for return shipment if it should become necessary. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to file all claims for any damages or loss incurred during transit.
1. Remove the scale from the shipping carton and inspect it for any signs of damage.
2. Remove the protective strip on the CR2032 memory battery.
3. Remove the red transport protection located on the reverse side of the scale.
4. Plug-in the AC adapter or install the optional 9V battery. Refer to the AC Adapter or
Optional 9V Battery sections of this manual for more instruction.
5. Place the scale on a flat level surf ace, such as a table or bench.
6. Slide the tray carefully on to the platform.
7. The scale is now ready for operation.
AC Adapter
To apply power to the scale using the UL listed AC adapter, insert the plug from the AC adapter cable into the power jack on the back of the scale and then plug the AC adapter into the proper electrical outlet.
Optional 9V Battery
The scale can use a "9V" size alkaline battery (not included). If you wish to operate the scale from a battery, you must first obtain and install the battery. The battery is contained in a holder inside the scale. Access is via a removable panel on the bottom of the scale.
Setting the Clock
NOTE: Upon plugging in the AC adapter (or installing the optional 9V battery), the display will
alternately show the time 00:00 (24-hr mode) and the date 01.01 (month/month/day/day).
1. Press the Clock Set key to set the time.
2. Press the Adjust key to set the hour.
3. Press the Clock Set key to confirm the hour setting and then advance to the minute.
4. Press the Adjust key to set the minute.
5. Press the Clock Set key to confirm the minute setting and then advance to the year.
6. Press the Adjust key to set the year.
7. Press the Clock Set key to confirm the year setting and then advance to the month.
8. Press the Adjust key to set the month.
9. Press the Clock Set key to confirm the month setting and then advance to the day.
10. Press the Adjust key to set the day.
11. Press the Clock Set key to return to the clock mode with new date and time displayed.
NOTE: The Clock Set key must be pressed within 10 seconds after entering the new setting,
otherwise the scale will exit clock setting mode automatically without saving.
Weighing Unit Switch
The weighing unit switch (kg / lb.oz switch) is a push-button switch located on the bottom of the scale. Press the switch to change between kg and lb.oz.

OPERATION
Weighing
1. Make sure that nothing is on the scale platform.
2. Press and hold the Time/Weight key for 3 seconds to change to the Weighing mode.
3. First “---“ will appear on the display, followed by “0.00kg” if the weighing unit switch is
set to kg, or “0.0 lb.oz” if it is set to the lb.oz position.
4. Place the baby o n t h e t r ay .
5. The display will show the baby’s weight.
6. Note that if there is no change in weight for 2 minutes, the scale will return to the Clock
mode. Otherwise, press and hold the Time/Weight key for 3 seconds to go back to the Clock mode.
Hold Weight Display
1. When the baby’s weight is displayed, press the Hold / Release key once to hold the
weight on the display.
DO NOT LEAVE BABY UNATTENDED ON BABY TRAY. FAILURE TO MAINT AIN CONTINUAL CONTROL OF BABY BEING
WEIGHED CAN RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY SHOULD BABY FALL FROM SCALE.
NOTE: The baby’s weight must be greater than 2.2 lb (1 kg) for the hold function to work.
2. After recording the displayed weight, press the Hold / Release key once to release the
weight display and return to weighing mode.
Tare Function
1. When the TARE key is pressed “t” and then “0.00kg” (or “0.0 lb.oz”) will appear on the
display.
2. When the infant is removed from the scale after being weighed in the Tare mode, the display will show a negative weight value.
Memory, Recall and Difference Function
1. Press the Memory key. The current weight on the platform and time and date will be
saved in memory.
2. Press the Recall key while the scale is in the Weighing or Clock mode. This will cause the previously saved weight (and time and date) to be shown on the display along with the symbol. The recalled weight will be displayed for about 4 seconds and then the date and time when the weight was saved will appear.
3. Note that the saved weight will be retained until a new value is saved.
4. Press the Difference key to show the difference between the current and saved weight
along with the  symbols. Thereafter the date and time of the last saved weight will be displayed. If the current weight is higher than the saved weight, the difference will be shown as a positive value. If the current weight is lower than the saved weight, a negative value will be shown.
5. The Difference key will only operate when the scale is in the Weighing mode.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
1. Pull the tray sideways. Never pull it upwards, as this could damage the scale.
2. Replace the CR2032 memory battery at least once a year in order to ensure that the
memory does not lose its data. IMPORTANT! Never remove both the CR2032 memory battery and the 9V operation
battery at the same time. This will cause the scale to lose all its data.
3. Remove the 9v battery if the scale is not used for a prolonged period of time.
4. Other than replacing the battery, do not disassemble the scale, it contains no user
serviceable parts.
5. Damage to the scale may occur as a result of improper handling. Avoid excessive impact or vibration to the scale such as dropping it.
6. Clean the scale with a lightly dampened cloth.
